The effect of nano-sized bioactive glass on degree of conversion and Knoop microhardness was similar to that of micro-sized bioactive glass. Composites containing nano-sized bioactive glass formed a more uniform hydroxyapatite layer after phosphate-buffered saline immersion than composites containing exclusively micro-sized particles. Partial replacement of nano- by micro-sized bioactive glass in the hybrid composite did not impair its reactivity, degree of conversion (p > 0.05), and Knoop microhardness (p > 0.05). It is concluded that downsizing bioactive glass particles to nano-size improves the alkalizing potential of experimental composites with no negative effects on their fundamental properties.This research evaluated the effects of de-oiled lecithin (DOL) as an exogenous emulsifier in broilers. Totally, 480 male broilers (1-d-old, Ross308) were raised for a 35-day feeding experiment. Broilers were randomly divided into three dietary groups including the addition of 0, 61.80%de-oiled lecithin (DOL-60), 97.16%de-oiled lecithin (DOL-97) into the basal diet. Broiler chickens fed with DOL-60 and DOL-97diets had greater body weight gain (BWG) during 1-7 days, 8-21 days, and the overall experimental period (p less then 0.05),greater(p less then 0.05) breast muscle percentages, and lower (p less then 0.05) low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL/C) concentrations. Furthermore, broiler chickens fed with DOL-97 diet showed the highest (p less then 0.05)BWG during 22-35 days and feed intake during 8-21 days, lowest (p less then 0.05) feed conversion ratio during 22-35 days and overall period, highest (p less then 0.05) concentration of serum high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL/C), lowest (p less then 0.05) concentration of serum low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL/C),excreta population of Escherichia coli (E. coli), and highest(p less then 0.05) value of breast muscle redness. In summary, broiler diets inclusion of DOL-97 decreased the excreta E. coli counts, improved the growth performance, increased breast muscle percentage and redness, and enhanced concentrations of serum HDL/C and LDL/C.The aim of this study was two-fold (1) to analyze the within-week variations of heart rate, session-rated of perceived exertion (sRPE), total distance, distance in 8.0-11.99 km/h-1, recovery distance in 12.0-17.99 km/h-1, distance in >18.0 km/h-1, maximum speed, number of sprints, heart rate variability, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and fatigue during training camps of a national futsal team; and (2) to analyze the relationships between load and the well-being. Twenty-eight men from the Chinese Taipei U-20 national futsal team were analyzed. Comparisons of training days revealed that the total distance was significantly smaller on day 1 (d = -1.22) and day 6 (d = -1.95) than on day 3. The sRPE values were significantly lower on day 1 than days 4 (d = -1.53), 5 (d = -2.07), and 6 (d = -2.59). The relationships between training load and recovery parameters revealed moderate correlations between the DOMS and the sRPE recorded one (r = -0.321) and two days before training (r = -0.289). It is possible conclude that first day imposed a smaller external load and internal load, and that the internal load had a greater dependent relationship with reported DOMS and fatigue during the training camps.This study aimed at achieving the molecular characterization of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator 1β (PGC-1β) and exploring its modulatory roles in mitochondria biogenesis in blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala). A full-length cDNA of PGC-1β was cloned from liver which covered 3110 bp encoding 859 amino acids. The conserved motifs of PGC-1β family proteins were gained by MEME software, and the phylogenetic analyses showed motif loss and rearrangement of PGC-1β in fish. The function of PGC-1β was evaluated through overexpression and knockdown of PGC-1β in primary hepatocytes of blunt snout bream. We observed overexpression of PGC-1β along with enhanced mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) expression and mtDNA copies in hepatocytes, and its knockdown led to slightly reduced NRF1 expression. However, knockdown of PGC-1β did not significantly influence TFAM expression or mtDNA copies. The alterations in mitochondria biogenesis were assessed following high-fat intake, and the results showed that it induces downregulation of PGC-1β. Furthermore, significant decreases in mitochondrial respiratory chain activities and mitochondria biogenesis were observed by high-fat intake. Our findings demonstrated that overexpression of PGC-1β induces the enhancement of TFAM expression and mtDNA amount but not NRF-1. Therefore, it could be concluded that PGC-1β is involved in mitochondrial biogenesis in blunt snout bream but not through PGC-1β/NRF-1 pathway.A number of bioactive components of diet are indicated as potential dietary factors for the management of ulcerative colitis, while the recent study conducted in an animal model revealed that proanthocyanidins from grape seeds exert a broadly positive impact. Training started with a workshop on participatory diagnosis of working conditions. Once teams had conducted the participatory diagnosis in the rural communities, they designed in a second course an active teaching intervention. The intervention was targeted at the main occupational health problem of the community. After implementation of the intervention, teams evaluated the program. Evaluation results were very positive with an overall score of 9.7 out of 10. Teams reported that the methodology enabled them to visualize hazardous working conditions.
