The supply of oven-fresh bakery products to consumers has been improved by frozen dough technology; however, freeze-thaw stress decreases the activity of yeast cells. To breed better baker's yeasts for frozen dough, it is important to understand the factors affecting freeze-thaw stress tolerance in baker's yeast. We analyzed the stress response in IB1411, a spore clone from Saccharomyces cerevisiae Shirakami kodama yeast, with an exceptionally high tolerance to freeze-thaw stress. Genes encoding trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS1), catalase (CTT1), and disaggregase (HSP104) were highly expressed in IB1411 cells even under conditions of non-stress. The expression of Hsp104 protein was also higher in IB1411 cells even under non-stress conditions. Deletion of HSP104 (hsp104Δ) in IB1411 cells reduced the activity of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS). By monitoring the accumulation of aggregated proteins using the ΔssCPY*-GFP fusion protein under freeze-thaw stress or treatment with proteasomal inhibitor, we found that IB1411 cells resolved aggregated proteins faster than the hsp104Δ strain. Thus, Hsp104 seems to contribute to freeze-thaw tolerance by maintaining UPS activity via the disaggregation of aggregated proteins. Lastly, we found that the IB1411 cells maintained high leavening ability in frozen dough as compared with the parental strain, Shirakami kodama yeast, and thus will be useful for making bread.The large Japanese field mouse (Apodemus speciosus) is a small rodent species endemic to Japan. The genetic characteristics of A. speciosus include different chromosome numbers within the same species. Furthermore, A. speciosus has been used in radiation and genetic research. In the present study, a pregnant A. speciosus was obtained, and histochemical analysis of the implanted embryos was performed and compared with the developmental stages of the mouse (Mus musculus). Although there were some differences, the structures of the implanted embryos, including the primitive streak and placenta of A. speciosus were similar to those of mouse. Our study will be important for the construction of a developmental atlas of A. speciosus.A 13-year-old, female, mixed-breed dog with a huge cranial mediastinal mass underwent radiotherapy (RT). On the following day, the dog presented with lethargy and anorexia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the classification accuracy of specific blood flow reduction patterns in clinical images by deep learning using simulation data.

We obtained Z-score maps for 100 cases each of simulated Alzheimer's disease (AD), simulated dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and simulated normal cognition (NC) by performing statistical analysis of the simulation data that provided defects and healthy patient data. The clinical images were determined by reference to radiological reports, and Z-score maps of AD (n=33), DLB (n=20), and NC (n=28) were used. A network was constructed with reference to AlexNet, 4-fold cross-validation was performed using only simulation data, and classification accuracy was evaluated. We also trained the model using the simulation data and classified the clinical images.

The accuracy rate of classification between simulations was 96.2% and that of the clinical images was 84.2%.

Through deep learning using simulation data, clinical images may be classified with an accuracy of 84.2%.Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) using ultra-short TE (uTE) is known to be used for the evaluation of cerebral aneurysm after treatment such as clipping and coiling. However, conventional uTE sequences are not appropriate as an additional imaging sequence for 3D time-of-flight (TOF)-MRA because it is not possible to shorten scan time and acquire selective-volume imaging. To solve the problem, we focused on the combination of uTE sampling and 3D radial scan sequences. In this study, we examined the optimal imaging parameters of the proposed uTE-MRA. A simulated blood flow phantom with stents (Enterprise) and titanium clips (YASARGIL) was used for optimizing the TR, flip angle (FA), and radial percentage. The signal intensity in the simulated vessel was measured in each imaging condition, and the ratio of the presence or absence of a stent was evaluated as a relative in-stent signal (RIS). In addition, the diameter of the signal loss of the simulated artery was measured for each imaging condition, and signal loss length (SLL) of a clip was calculated from the average value. The RIS improved with increasing the FA and shortening the TR, but it did not change by changing the radial percentage. The SLL became smaller at the coil as the FA increased, but there was no significant difference between the intersection and the blade. This study aimed to compare the contrast effects of administration via the subclavian vein, the superior vena cava and right ventricular venous tract, and the aorta in three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (3D-CTA) using one-step injection and trapezoidal cross-injection.

The subjects were 56 patients who underwent aortic 3D-CTA. In the one-step injection method, a 30-second injection of contrast medium was followed by saline injected at the same rate as the 30-ml contrast medium. In the trapezoidal cross-injection method, after injecting the contrast agent for 15 seconds, a variable mixture of the contrast agent and saline was injected for 15 seconds, followed by 20 ml saline injected at the same rate as the initial contrast agent injection. CT values were measured in the subclavian vein, superior vena cava, right ventricle, and aorta.

A significant difference was found in the subclavian vein and right ventricle, with the trapezoidal cross-injection method showing a lower CT value than the one-step injection method (p<0.01). There were no significant differences in the CT values in the superior vena cava and the aorta.

The trapezoidal cross-injection method for aortic 3D-CTA produced lower CT values in venous pathways than those via the one-step injection method, but no changes were observed in the aortic CT values. These results suggest that the trapezoidal cross-injection method is useful in aortic 3D-CTA.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of combining post-processing scatter correction (IG) and an anti-scatter grid (RG) in chest radiography.

To determine the combination protocol (Hyb) that was closed to RG 121 (RG12), we measured the content rate of scattered radiation for each combination (RG12, IG12, RG3-12+IG3-12). Task-based modulation transfer function (MTF_Task) and SDNR were evaluated using RG12, IG12, and Hyb. Additionally, seven radiologists performed visual evaluation by using chest phantom.

The protocol of Hyb was RG8+IG3. In SDNR, Hyb (RG8+IG3) was equal to or higher than RG12, and MTF_Task was equal in all grid systems. Hyb (RG8+IG3) was significantly superior to RG12 in visual evaluation.

At the southern edge of its distribution, in Kyoto Prefecture, overgrazing by sika deer and decreased snowfall have resulted in the rapid decline of A. mallotopus populations. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a conservation genetic analysis of the remaining local populations. In this study, we first developed 13 EST-SSR markers to evaluate genetic variation in A. mallotopus. The average number of alleles per locus was 5.33. Genetic analysis using these markers showed that the investigated samples were classified into two groups corresponding to landscape structure. One group isolated from a tributary of the Yura River showed a strong population bottleneck signal, likely resulting from founder effects and subsequent drifts. On the other hand, the genetic diversity of the second group in the main distribution along the Yura River was higher and less inbred. Overall, our assessment suggested recognizing the two genetic groups as management units in conservation programs for the threatened populations.In various coastal areas of Japan, naturalized radish populations are observed. Radish is a cruciferous plant and exhibits self-incompatibility, involving a system controlled by a single locus with multiple S alleles. Although the S allele diversity of radish cultivars and wild radishes has been characterized, the S allele distribution in naturalized populations has not yet been analyzed in relation to the positions of the plants in situ. Here, we show the S allele distribution in naturalized radish populations of Yakushima, a small island in the East China Sea, with positions of the plants. Radish plants were sampled in coastal areas in Yakushima, and their S alleles were detected and characterized. Most of the S alleles had been previously identified in radish cultivars. However, four novel S alleles, which may be unique to Yakushima, were also found. Moreover, seeds in siliques from plants growing in the study areas were sampled, and S allele determination in DNA extracted from these seeds suggested that the plants had exchanged their pollen among their close neighbors.
