The emergence and spread of multidrug resistance poses a significant risk to malaria control and eradication goals in the world. There has been no indigenous malaria cases reported in China since 2017, and China is approaching national malaria elimination. BI2865 BI2865 Therefore, anti-malarial drug resistance surveillance and tracking the emergence and spread of imported drug-resistant malaria cases will be necessary in a post-elimination phase in China.

Dried blood spots were obtained from Plasmodium falciparum-infected cases returned from Africa to China between 2012 and 2015, prior to anti-malarial drug treatment. Whole DNA were extracted and known polymorphisms relating to drug resistance of pfcrt, pfmdr1 gene, and the propeller domain of pfk13 were evaluated by nested PCR and sequencing. The haplotypes and prevalence of these three genes were evaluated separately. Chi-squared test and Fisher's exact test were used to evaluate differences among the different sub-regions of Africa. A P value < 0.05 was used to e the most common mutation in pfk13-propeller domain and three mutations associated with artemisinin resistance (M476I, R539T, P553L) were identified in three isolates.

This study provides evidence that could give insight into potential issues with anti-malarial drug resistance to inform national drug policy in China in order to treat imported cases.

There has been an interest in the relationship between ABO blood groups and infertility. Many studies have investigated the association of ABO blood groups with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and outcomes of assisted reproductive technology (ART), with controversial results.

A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluating the association of ABO blood groups with DOR, OHSS, and outcomes of ART.

Thirteen studies performed between 2010 and 2018 were included in this meta-analysis. DOR, OHSS, live birth rate (LBR), clinical pregnancy rate (CPR), miscarriage rate (MR) were reported in 9, 2, 4, 3, 2 studies, respectively. The combined results showed similar risk of DOR among individuals with blood group A (RR, 0.98; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.85, 1.13), B (RR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.76, 1.20), AB (RR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.76, 1.30), and non-O (RR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.79, 1.11) as compared to those with blood group O. Meta-analysis showed that the incidences PR, and MR of ART. Infertility and ART outcomes are influenced by multiple factors. Blood groups should not be taken into account excessively during diagnosis and treatment of infertile women.
To evaluate the initial experience and clinical utility of first-line adjuvant intensity-modulated whole abdominal radiation therapy (WART) in women with ovarian clear cell cancer (OCCC) referred to an academic center.

Progression-free and overall survival was analyzed in a pragmatic observational cohort study of histologically pure OCCC patients over-expressing HNF-1ß treated between 2013 and end-December 2018. An in-house intensity-modulated WART program was developed from a published pre-clinical model. Radiation dose-volume data was curated to American Association of Physics in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group 263 recommendations. A dedicated database prospectively recorded presenting characteristics and outcomes in a standardized fashion.

Five women with FIGO (2018) stage IA to IIIA2 OCCC were treated with first-line WART. BI2865 Median age was 58years (range 47-68years). BI2865 At diagnosis CA-125 was elevated in 4 cases (median 56 kU/L range 18.4-370 kU/L) before primary de-bulking surgery. Severe premorbid endometrwas suggested in this small observational cohort study. The hypothesis that HNF-1β is a portent of platinum-resistance and an important predictive biomarker in OCCC needs further confirmation. link2 Curating multi-institutional cohort studies utilizing WART by means of "Big Data" may improve OCCC care standards in the future.
Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by left ventricular dysfunction or elevated intracardiac pressures. Research supports that microRNAs (miRs) participate in HF by regulating targeted genes. link2 Hence, the current study set out to study the role of HDAC3-medaited miR-18a in HF by targeting ADRB3.

Firstly, HF mouse models were established by ligation of the left coronary artery at the lower edge of the left atrial appendage, and HF cell models were generated in the cardiomyocytes, followed by ectopic expression and silencing experiments. link2 Numerous parameters including left ventricular posterior wall dimension (LVPWD), interventricular septal dimension (IVSD), left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVESD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular fractional shortening (LVFS), left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP), left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LEVDP), heart rate (HR), left ventricular pressure rise rate (+ dptection against HF by inhibiting miR-18a-targeted ADRB3.
Collectively, our findings indicate that HDAC3 silencing confers protection against HF by inhibiting miR-18a-targeted ADRB3.The tongue and hard palate play an essential role in the production of sound during continuous speech. Appropriate tongue and hard palate contacts will ensure proper sound production. Electropalatography, also known as EPG, is a device that can be used to identify the location of the tongue and hard palate contact. It can also be used by a speech therapist to help patients who have a speech disorder. Among the group with the disease are cleft palate, Down syndrome, glossectomy, and autism patients. Besides identifying the contact location, EPG is a useful medical device that has been continuously developed based on the patient's needs and treatment advancement. This article reviews the technology of electropalatography since the early introduction of the device. It also discusses the development process and the drawbacks of the previous EPG systems, resulting in the EPG's upgraded system and technology. This review suggests additional features that can be useful for the future development of the EPG. The latest technology can be incorporated into the EPG system to provide a more convenient method. There are some elements to be considered in the development of EPG's new technology that were discussed in this study. link2 The elements are essential to provide more convenience for the patient during speech therapy. New technology can accelerate the growth of medical devices, particularly on the development of speech therapy equipment that should be based on the latest technological advancements available. Thus, the advanced EPG system suggested in this article may expand the usage of the EPG and serve as a tool to provide speech therapy treatment services and not limited to monitoring only.
Hypophosphatemic rickets is associated with delayed walking, bone deformities, growth failure and physical dysfunction that can limit daily activities. Treatment consists of phosphate salts and calcitriol. link3 We report a case that received denosumab with marked improvement in her condition.

A 24-year-old Yemeni female with hypophosphatemic rickets presented to an endocrinologist with severe weakness and severe pain in the extremities, she had been bedridden for the last 4 years. Bone density showed severe osteoporosis (T score of hip was - 5.0 and Z score of hip was - 5.0, T score of the spine was - 6.0 and Z score of the spine was - 6.1) so the patient was started on denosumab in addition to calcitriol and after 7months she was feeling stronger and felt she could stand assisted and was walking with assistance within 9 months and after 1.5 years of treatment she was walking unassisted.

Denosumab is an effective treatment for osteoporosis, we used it in our patient in addition to calcitriol because she had severe osteoporosis due to long standing hypophosphatemic rickets that had not been treated properly, the patient improved markedly and regained the ability to walk again after being bedridden for 4 years. link3 link3 It may be a drug to consider in such cases although further studies need to be done to confirm this.

Whether explicitly stated or not, changed power relations are at the heart of what social accountability practitioners seek, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health. Yet, evaluations of social accountability programs frequently fail to assess important power dynamics. In this commentary, we argue that we must include an examination of power in research and evaluation of social accountability in sexual and reproductive health, and suggest ways to do this. link3 The authors are part of a community of practice on measuring social accountability and health outcomes. We share key lessons from our efforts to conduct power sensitive research using different approaches and methods.First, participatory research and evaluation approaches create space for program participants to engage actively in evaluations by defining success. Participation is also one of the key elements of feminist evmming more broadly. We hope this brief discussion encourages other researchers and evaluators to share experiences of analysing power relations as part of evaluation of social accountability interventions for sexual and reproductive health so that together, we improve methodology in this crucial area.
Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is the golden standard in accessing the coronary lesions, stenosis, and atherosclerosis plaques. In this paper, a fully automatic approach by an 8-layer U-Net is developed to segment the coronary artery lumen and the area bounded by external elastic membrane (EEM), i.e., cross-sectional area (EEM-CSA). The database comprises single-vendor and single-frequency IVUS data. Particularly, the proposed data augmentation of MeshGrid combined with flip and rotation operations is implemented, improving the model performance without pre- or post-processing of the raw IVUS images.

The mean intersection of union (MIoU) of 0.937 and 0.804 for the lumen and EEM-CSA, respectively, were achieved, which exceeded the manual labeling accuracy of the clinician.

The accuracy shown by the proposed method is sufficient for subsequent reconstruction of 3D-IVUS images, which is essential for doctors' diagnosis in the tissue characterization of coronary artery walls and plaque compositions, qualitatively and quantitatively.
