In recent years, several studies have reported abnormal pre- and postoperative neuropsychological functioning in patients with meningiomas located in the prefrontal cortex (notably the ventromedial region). Neuropsychological results were obtained from the patients' medical history and normalized as z-scores of their respective cognitive functions.

Assessment of cognitive follow-up showed an important heterogeneity among patients. Pre-operative cognitive impairment was observed in most patients, particularly in cognitive flexibility (mean z-score -1.35). Immediate post-operative cognitive status showed an overall impairment in all domains of cognition, significant for the domains of attention (
= 0.0273) and flexibility (
= 0.0234) and almost significant for the domain of language (
= 0.0547). The late follow-up at one year showed a trend towards general improvement, although attention and flexibility remained impaired.

However, the source of the original stem cells for use is extremely important and determines their therapeutic potential. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) have proven their therapeutic effectiveness when used in a number of pathological models. However, it remains an open question whether the chronological age of the donor organism affects the effectiveness of the use of MSC. The asymmetric division of stem cells, the result of which is some residential stem cells acquiring a non-senile phenotype, means that stem cells possess an intrinsic ability to preserve juvenile characteristics, implying an absence or at least remarkable retardation of senescence in stem cells. To test whether residential MSC senesce, we evaluated the physiological changes in the MSC from old rats, with a further comparison of the neuroprotective properties of MSC from young and old animals in a model of traumatic brain injury. We found that, while the effect of administration of MSC on lesion volume was minimal, functional recovery was remarkable, with the highest effect assigned to fetal cells; the lowest effect was recorded for cells isolated from adult rats and postnatal cells, having intermediate potency. MSC from the young rats were characterized by a faster growth than adult MSC, correlating with levels of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). However, there were no differences in respiratory activity of MSC from young and old rats, but young cells showed much higher glucose utilization than old ones. Autophagy flux was almost the same in both types of cells, but there were remarkable ultrastructural differences in old and young cells.Human response to wildlife management is widespread, encompassing both human-wildlife conflicts and wildlife conservation, in different places and at different times. As people become increasingly aware of the importance of wildlife to biological and environmental sustainability, newspapers can be important sources of information, especially in developing countries, such as Iran. Three major Iranian daily newspapers were analysed for news items related to wildlife. Over the 7-year study period, 434 articles presented environmental news, of which 61 items referred to wildlife. Each wildlife item was recorded in terms of message, contributor, spatiality, and allocated space. Structure query language (SQL) was used to analyse relationships between the 915 fields/entries. Wildlife items were characterised by public awareness (51%), columnist contributions (46%), and local spatiality (43%). Most items (82%) were allocated space of less than half a page. Of the categorised topics, those of combined endangered land (30%) and marine (5%) species exceeded items on global conservation (24%). Results highlighted the minimal number and small space devoted to wildlife news items and their concentrations (67%) in one of the three sampled newspapers. Although nature has historically been important in Iranian culture, current attitudes to wildlife, as reflected in newspaper coverage, do not seem to mirror these traditional perspectives. Given the widespread distribution of newspapers and their roles (i.e., as sources of information and opinion influencers), global wildlife conservation issues would benefit from much greater coverage in the daily press.Active commuting to school in children and adolescents can help achieve compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for physical activity. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the mode of transport used to go to school and the mode of transport used to go to extracurricular sports practice. Multistage random cluster sampling was conducted to include 128 schools with the participation of 11,017 students between the ages of 5 and 19. Participants completed the survey of sports habits designed by the National Sports Council. The results revealed that the mode of transport used to go to school is significantly related to the mode of transport used to go to sports practice. A total of 54.3% of students aged 5 to 19 years walk to school. A total of 23.7% of boys walk and 7.9% bike to extracurricular physical activities vs. 24.1% of girls who walk. The fact that girls only walk to extracurricular physical activities implies that the organized sports activities were nearby. Though a limited number of RAPs have been successfully applied as organic cathodes in AZPBs, their macromolecular engineering towards improving electrochemical performance is rarely considered. In this study, we systematically compare performance of AZPB comprising Zn metal anode and either poly(catechol) homopolymer (named P(4VC)) or poly(catechol) copolymer (named P(4VC86-stat-SS14)) as polymer cathodes. Sulfonate anionic pendants in copolymer not only rendered lower activation energy and higher rate constant, but also conferred lower charge-transfer resistance, as well as facilitated Zn2+ mobility and less diffusion-controlled current responses compared to its homopolymer analogue. Consequently, the Zn||P(4VC86-stat-SS14) full-cell exhibits enhanced gravimetric (180 versus 120 mAh g-1 at 30 mg cm-2) and areal capacity (5.4 versus 3.6 mAh cm-2 at 30 mg cm-2) values, as well as superior rate capability both at room temperature (149 versus 105 mAh g-1 at 150 C) and at -35 °C (101 versus 35 mAh g-1 at 30 C) compared to Zn||P(4VC)100. This overall improved performance for Zn||P(4VC86-stat-SS14) is highly encouraging from the perspective applying macromolecular engineering strategies and paves the way for the design of advanced high-performance metal-organic batteries.This paper presents the relative humidity (RH) sensing response of a resistive sensor employing sensing layers based on a ternary nanocomposite comprising graphene oxide-oxidized carbon nanohorns-polyvinylpyrrolidone (GO-CNHox-PVP), at 1/1/1, 1/2/1, and 1/3/1 w/w/w mass ratios. The sensing structure is composed of a silicon substrate, a SiO2 layer, and interdigitated transducers (IDT) electrodes, on which the sensing layer is deposited via the drop-casting method. The morphology and the composition of the sensing layers are investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and RAMAN spectroscopy. The RH sensing capability of each carbonaceous nanocomposite-based thin film was analyzed by applying a current between the two electrodes and by measuring the voltage difference when varying the RH from 0% to 100% in humid nitrogen. The sensors have a room temperature response comparable to that of a commercial humidity sensor and are characterized by a rapid response, excellent linearity, good sensitivity, and recovery time. The manufactured sensing devices' transfer functions were established, and we extracted the response and recovery times. While the structures with GO/CNHox/PVP at 1/1/1 ratio (w/w/w) had the best performance in terms of relative sensibility, response time, and recovery time, the sensors employing the GO/CNHox/PVP nanocomposite at the 1/2/1 ratio (w/w/w) had the best linearity. Moreover, the ternary mixture proved to have much better sensing properties compared to CNHox and CNHox-PVP-based sensing layers in terms of sensitivity and linearity. Each component of the ternary nanocomposites' functional role is explained based on their physical and chemical properties. We analyzed the potential mechanism associated with the sensors' response; among these, the effect of the p-type semiconductor behavior of CNHox and GO, correlated with swelling of the PVP, was dominant and led to increased resistance of the sensing layer.
