Recent clinical trials have established the efficacy of endovascular stroke therapy and intravenous thrombolysis using advanced imaging, particularly computed tomography perfusion (CTP). We investigated the association of both patient-level (household income, education levels) and country-level (regional income level by World Bank classification, income disparity by Gini index) socioeconomic indicators on use of guideline-directed therapy and clinical outcomes (composite of 1-year mortality or HF hospitalization, quality of life) in the prospective multinational ASIAN-HF study (Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure).

Among 4540 patients (mean age 60±13 years, 23% women) with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, 39% lived in low-income regions; 34% in regions with high-income disparity (Gini ≥42.8%); 64.4% had low monthly household income (<US$1000); and 29.5% had no/only primary education. Registration URL https//clinicaltrials.gov; Unique Identifier NCT01633398.Intimate partner abuse (IPA) carries severe physical and psychological consequences for victims, and the police and courts are some of the essential formal structures that help victims address their victimization. Studies suggest that male victims of IPA are reluctant to speak about or report their victimization to the police. This qualitative study examines the experiences male victims of IPA had with the criminal justice system (i.e., the courts and police). We conducted interviews with 16 men who had experienced IPA in their previous relationship in Canada. Two major themes about the police response were identified the barriers to contacting the police for help and negative experiences with the police response. We found that men who chose not to contact the police did it due to the negative expectations of being ridiculed by the police, not being believed, and fear of being arrested. Those men who called the police for help reported unfriendly and antagonistic police treatment and the police's reluctance to charge abusive female partners. The themes that reflected the male victims' interactions with the court pointed to (1) legal and administrative abuse by female partners, including false accusations and manipulations of child custody, and (2) a general bias against men in the courtroom. This study brings attention to the need for law enforcement officers to be aware of the experiences and perceptions male victims have of the criminal justice system and the need for the criminal justice system to create more inclusive strategies to help male victims of IPA.
Little is known about the underlying neurophysiology of pediatric delirium. In adult patients, the sensitivity of EEG to clinical symptoms of delirium has been noted, with a slowing of background activity (alpha) and an increase in slow-wave activity (delta-theta). In this pilot study, the authors extended this investigation to a pediatric cohort.

In a convenience sample, 23 critically ill children were screened for delirium, using the Cornell Assessment for Pediatric Delirium (CAPD), every 12 hours throughout their pediatric intensive care unit stay as part of standard intensive care unit procedure, and EEGs were performed as part of their clinical care. After hospital discharge, EEGs were reviewed using quantitative analysis, and the maximum delta-alpha ratio (DAR; eyes closed) was derived for each 12-hour period. DAR values were compared between delirious and nondelirious episodes, and the linear relationship between DAR and CAPD was assessed.

Higher DARs were associated with episodes of delirium. The DAR also positively correlated with CAPD assessments, with higher DARs relating to higher delirium scores.
