This study examines the association between behavioral health symptoms and use of behavioral health care (BHC; i.e., past year counseling and/or regular use of psychiatric medication) among a diverse group of mothers of toddlers. Data were from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing study (N = 4205 mothers). The association between symptom profiles (i.e., depressive, anxiety, and alcohol and drug dependence) and use of BHC was estimated with logistic regression models. Potential moderation by race/ethnicity was examined. Complex symptom profiles, older age, functional limitations, prior behavioral health symptoms, and having Medicaid were associated with increased BHC use. While BHC use varied by symptom profile (but not by race/ethnicity), BHC use was low across profiles. Pregnant women and women of color were most likely to have unmet needs, underscoring the need to improve screening and management systems for these populations.BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is often associated with metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, insulin resistance, and obesity). NAFLD is multi-factorial in pathogenesis with some genetic predisposition. The variant patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) is known to be an independent risk factor for hepatocellular cancer (HCC). The aim of this study was to investigate the role of PNPLA3 polymorphism as the risk factor for NAFLD. METHODOLOGY Patients had histological, ultrasonographic, biopsy evidence of NAFLD (n=248) and 81 controls were studied for PNPLA3 polymorphism. PNPLA3 genotyping was done from peripheral blood DNA by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS PNPLA3 genotyping of the groups NAFLD (CC [n = 76], CG [n = 83], GG [n = 89]) and control (CC [n= 42], CG [n = 22], GG [n = 17]) was determined. In the patient group, the G allele was 261 (52.63%) and the C allele was 235 (47.37%), whereas in the control group, the G allele was 56 (34.54%) and the C allele was 106 (65.43%). In our study, 53 out of 174 women had GG allele and 54 out of 155 men had GG allele. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that there is a predominant relationship between men with PNPLA3 I148M variant with NAFLD in women. Patients with NAFLD carrying PNPLA3 rs738409 G>C variant are at higher risk of NAFLD.PURPOSE Fluoroscopy is the standard imaging modality used to guide hip surgery and is therefore a natural sensor for computer-assisted navigation. In order to efficiently solve the complex registration problems presented during navigation, human-assisted annotations of the intraoperative image are typically required. This manual initialization interferes with the surgical workflow and diminishes any advantages gained from navigation. In this paper, we propose a method for fully automatic registration using anatomical annotations produced by a neural network. METHODS Neural networks are trained to simultaneously segment anatomy and identify landmarks in fluoroscopy. Training data are obtained using a computationally intensive, intraoperatively incompatible, 2D/3D registration of the pelvis and each femur. click here Ground truth 2D segmentation labels and anatomical landmark locations are established using projected 3D annotations. Intraoperative registration couples a traditional intensity-based strategy with annotationotations allows for a robust, fully automatic, and efficient intraoperative registration during fluoroscopic navigation of the hip.PURPOSE In the last decade, there has been a great effort to bring mixed reality (MR) into the operating room to assist surgeons intraoperatively. However, progress towards this goal is still at an early stage. The aim of this paper is to propose a MR visualisation platform which projects multiple imaging modalities to assist intraoperative surgical guidance. METHODOLOGY In this work, a MR visualisation platform has been developed for the Microsoft HoloLens. The platform contains three visualisation components, namely a 3D organ model, volumetric data, and tissue morphology captured with intraoperative imaging modalities. Furthermore, a set of novel interactive functionalities have been designed including scrolling through volumetric data and adjustment of the virtual objects' transparency. A pilot user study has been conducted to evaluate the usability of the proposed platform in the operating room. The participants were allowed to interact with the visualisation components and test the different functionalities. Each surgeon answered a questionnaire on the usability of the platform and provided their feedback and suggestions. RESULTS The analysis of the surgeons' scores showed that the 3D model is the most popular MR visualisation component and neurosurgery is the most relevant speciality for this platform. The majority of the surgeons found the proposed visualisation platform intuitive and would use it in their operating rooms for intraoperative surgical guidance. Our platform has several promising potential clinical applications, including vascular neurosurgery. CONCLUSION The presented pilot study verified the potential of the proposed visualisation platform and its usability in the operating room. Our future work will focus on enhancing the platform by incorporating the surgeons' suggestions and conducting extensive evaluation on a large group of surgeons.Sepsis is a lethal syndrome with multiple organ failure caused by an inappropriate host response to infection. Cardiac dysfunction is one of the important complications of sepsis, termed sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD), which is characterized by systolic and diastolic dysfunction of both sides of the heart. Mechanisms that contribute to SIMD include an excessive inflammatory response, altered circulatory, microvascular status, nitric oxide (NO) synthesis impairment, endothelial dysfunction, disorders of calcium regulation, cardiac autophagy anomaly, autonomic nervous system dysregulation, metabolic reprogramming, and mitochondrial dysfunction. The role of mitochondrial dysfunction, which is characterized by structural abnormalities, increased oxidative stress, abnormal opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), mitochondrial uncoupling, and disordered quality control systems, has been gaining increasing attention as a central player in the pathophysiology of SIMD. The disruption of homeostasis within the organism induced by mitochondrial dysfunction may also be an important aspect of SIMD development. In addition, an emerging therapy strategy targeting mitochondria, namely, metabolic resuscitation, seems promising. The current review briefly introduces the mechanism of SIMD, highlights how mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to SIMD, and discusses the role of metabolic resuscitation in the treatment of SIMD.Phytoplankton play important roles in marine ecosystems and have major impacts on the global biogeochemical cycles, yet the knowledge of the processes for oceanic environments controlling the phytoplankton dynamics still needs to be improved, particularly in the coastal ecosystems. Monitoring diversity of phytoplankton communities, including micro/nano- and pico-forms, as well as their dynamics in relation to environmental factors, is thus of critical significance. Here, we conducted two cruises in the southern Sunda Shelf during spring and fall 2016 to investigate the community structure and dynamics of phytoplankton assemblages in relation to environmental factors combining microscopy and flow cytometry. Micro/nanophytoplankton communities changed from Trichodesmium spp. and diatoms co-dominance in spring to communities dominated by Trichodesmium spp. in fall. Diatoms were a highly diverse group, with 78 species, followed by dinoflagellates (35 species). Differences in average abundance of micro/nanophytoplankton between spring and fall might be attributed to the shift in dominance of Trichodesmium spp. and diatoms. Picophytoplankton characterized by a great abundance of picocyanobacteria were dominated by Synechococcus. The dynamics of picophytoplankton during spring and fall might be associated with the differences in dominant Synechococcus strains. Environmental variables had significant influence on the dynamics of phytoplankton communities, especially nitrate and silicate. Silicate was a major driver responsible for the variations of micro/nanophytoplankton. Low silicate potentially limited the diatom growth during fall, leading to the overwhelming dominance of Trichodesmium spp. Picophytoplankton showed positive correlations with nitrate and silicate, suggesting that these nutrients collectively controlled variations in picophytoplankton communities during spring and fall.Emamectin benzoate (EMB), which is used as a pesticide in agriculture, household, and veterinary medicine, can cause tissue damage with oxidative toxicity and can be considered as inducing apoptosis. In the present study, male mice were conducted by oral administration in EMB doses 25, 50, and 100 (mg/kg/day) for 14 days. Glutathione (GSH) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels using spectrophotometric methods were measured. 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) which is DNA oxidation biomarker and, stress protein (HSP70) levels, caspase 3 enzyme activities were measured by ELISA techniques. This study shows that in vivo administration of EMB caused a marked induction of oxidative damage in liver tissue as demonstrated by an increased level of TBARS and reduced GSH level. The increase in HSP70 level did not prevent the apoptosis caused by the increase of caspase 3 enzyme activity. Toxicity caused by EMB also showed the formation of genotoxicity with an increase in DNA oxidation biomarker 8-OHdG levels. As a result of the study, the effects of toxicity caused by EMB on lipid; protein; and DNA, structural macromolecules in cells, and the importance of enzymatic and non-enzymatic bonds of the cell's protective systems were determined. Consequently, under experimental conditions, EMB exposure caused toxicity in the liver of male mice, and significant adverse effects were determined with biomarkers.Carbamazepine (CBZ) is a recalcitrant pharmaceutical often detected in wastewater and in the environment. CBZ can be removed from wastewater through advanced oxidation treatment methods such as ozonation. In this study, CBZ and its transformation product 1-(2-benzaldehyde)-(1H,3H)-quinazoline-2,4-dione (BQD) were ozonated, and the formation and transformation of their ozonation products were investigated using liquid chromatography coupled to ion trap mass spectrometry and high-resolution mass spectrometry as well as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The main products, 1-(2-benzaldehyde)-4-hydro-(1H,3H)-quinazoline-2-one (BQM) and BQD were quantified using isolated standards and LC-UV. Of the original CBZ concentration, 74% was transformed into BQM and 83% of BQM was further transformed into BQD. Both products are more stable than CBZ and could still be detected after 240 min of ozonation. Another major product, 2,2'-azanediyldibenzaldehyde (TP225) was for the first time identified using NMR. Twelve further CBZ products were identified.
