Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PanNENs), including Grade 1 (G1) or G2 tumors, can have a poor prognosis. This study investigated the value of contrast-enhanced harmonic endoscopic ultrasonography (CH-EUS) for predicting the prognosis of PanNENs.

This single-center, retrospective study included 47 consecutive patients who underwent CH-EUS and were diagnosed with PanNEN by surgical resection or EUS-guided fine needle aspiration between December 2011 and February 2016. Patients were divided into aggressive and non-aggressive groups according to the degree of clinical malignancy. CH-EUS was assessed regarding its capacity for diagnosing aggressive PanNEN, the correspondence between contrast patterns and pathological features, and its ability to predict the prognosis of PanNEN.

There were 19 cases of aggressive PanNEN and 28 cases of non-aggressive PanNEN. The aggressive group included three G1, four G2, three G3 tumors, three mixed neuroendocrine non-neuroendocrine neoplasms, and six neuroendocrine carcinomas. CH-EUS was superior to contrast-enhanced computed tomography for the diagnosis of aggressive PanNEN (P<0.001) hypo-enhancement on CH-EUS was an indicator of aggressive PanNEN, with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of 94.7%, 100%, 100%, 96.6%, and 97.9%, respectively. Among G1/G2 PanNENs, cases with hypo-enhancement on CH-EUS had a poorer prognosis than those with hyper/iso-enhancement (P=0.0009). Assessment of 36 resected specimens showed that hypo-enhancement on CH-EUS was associated with smaller and fewer vessels and greater degree of fibrosis.

Contrast-enhanced harmonic endoscopic ultrasonography may be useful for predicting the prognosis of PanNENs.

Evidence based on studies of the encoding genes suggests that interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase-4 (IRAK4) plays a role in childhood asthma and allergy. Our aim was to evaluate the associations of six IRAK4 gene polymorphisms with presence of asthma and allergic rhinitis and use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) for asthma at 5-7 and 11-13years of ages after hospitalisation for bronchiolitis at younger than 6months of age.

IRAK4 rs4251513, rs4251520, rs4251522, rs4251578, rs79154645 and rs13852554 polymorphisms were determined in 141 former bronchiolitis patients prospectively followed up until 5-7 and in 125 children until 11-13years of age.

The homozygous variant IRAK4 rs4251513 genotype was associated with the presence of asthma and allergic rhinitis and use of ICSs at 5-7 and 11-13years of ages in univariate analyses. Statistical significance remained for the presence of asthma and use of ICSs but was lost in the case of allergic rhinitis in multivariate analyses. The adjusted odds ratios were 3.48 and 4.16 for asthma and 5.22 and 14.00 for ICS use at these two ages.

The homozygous variant IRAK4 rs4251513 genotype was constantly associated with post-bronchiolitis asthma and asthma medication in school-aged children.

Nowadays, the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is one of the most destructive agricultural pests in the world. In this study, we mined the publicly accessible genome assembly data for S. frugiperda, and the transcriptomic and proteomic data of the larval central nervous system (CNS) for putative neuropeptide-encoding, and subsequently we used these to anticipate a peptidome for this species. In essence, we could identify 57 orthologs of insect neuropeptides, including Allatotropin, CCHamide, Corazonin, pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide, short neuropeptide F, Trissin, and Natalisin. Interesting features for S. frugiperda were the absence of genes coding for CNMamide, Elevein, and the differential evolution of ancestral neuropeptide genes such as adipokinetic corazonin-related peptide, adipokinetic hormone, Tachykinin, and Natalisin. In conclusion, our study provides the most complete neuropeptide description for the important pest S. frugiperda as a foundation to study the factors regulating insect growth, reproduction, and behavior. Second, we confirm that a comprehensive multi-omics analysis is necessary for the identification of neuropeptides. Finally, our data provide a reliable reference for other comparative studies in other insects beyond the supermodel insect of Drosophila melanogaster and the finding of potential candidates as selective for pests versus beneficial insects.
Chronic endometritis (CE) influences the clinical outcomes of assisted reproductive technology. However, the effect of CE on the pregnancy outcome is still unknown.

A retrospective case-control study was conducted in a single university. Subjects who conceived by in vitro fertilization within a year after a histological diagnosis of CE under 40years of age from September 2013 to December 2017 were extracted. The rates of miscarriage, preterm birth, term birth, and live birth per pregnancy according to the presence or absence of CE were analyzed. A logistic regression analysis was performed for miscarriage, preterm birth, term birth, and live birth for eight explanatory variables of seven infertility factors and CE.

A total of 39 pregnancies in 38 subjects with non-CE and 35 pregnancies in 32 subjects with CE were ultimately analyzed. The rates of miscarriage, preterm birth, term birth, and live birth per pregnancy were 12.8% and 40.0% (P<.03), 2.6% and 14.3% (P=.1), 84.6% and 45.7% (P<.001) and 84.6% and 57.1% (P<.03) in the Non-CE and CE groups, respectively, although only the analysis for tem birth rate had sufficient power to exclude Type II error. OSI-027 mouse In logistic analysis, CE was a factor affecting the objective variables of miscarriage, term birth, and live birth.

The term birth rate among pregnancies decreased mainly due to an increase in miscarriages when CE was detected before pregnancy in patients treated with in vitro fertilization. A histopathological diagnosis of CE adversely affected the term birth rate per pregnancy.
