The present study provided a promising strategy for economically sustainable production of vitamin B12 and propionic acid by P. freudenreichii fermentation using biomass cornstalk as carbon source and expanded bed adsorption bioreactor.Electroanalytic, photometric or fluorometric methods may provide information about the presence of proteolysis in a related sample, but they cannot accurately identify which protease belongs to the proteolytic activity. In other words, they cannot distinguish the proteases according to the differences in their activities. Previous studies on the chymotrypsin and trypsin have shown that the activities of proteases can be distinguished from each other by fluorescence lifetime distributions. In this study, it is aimed to show the sensitivity of the distributional model on the proteolytic activities of the two proteases. For this purpose, the proteolytic activities have been reduced by making covalent conjugation with polyacrylic acid (PAAc) and the effects of the low activities were examined on Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) which excimer emission character was incorporated into its structure by modification with N-(1-pyrenyl)maleimide. The time-resolved spectrofluorometer was used to collect fluorescence decay data at λ(excimer) = 464 nm, which were analyzed by using Exponential Series Method (ESM) to obtain the changes of lifetime distributions. The results showed a significant decline in the activities. Finally, three significant factors, viz., olive oil, peptone and tween 80 were studied using a 22 full factorial central composite design. Under optimized condition [6% (v/v) of olive oil, 0.7% peptone, 0.9% tween 80 and 25 h of incubation], the enzyme production was found to be 2.2 times higher with an overall enzyme production of 325.0 ± 1.4 U mL-1. Laboratory scale experiment proved that the enzyme could be utilized for pretreatment of food industry effluent rich in fat and oil (dairy, bakery and poultry). The enzyme was capable of hydrolyzing more than 50% of the initial fat present in all these effluents and enabled the reduction in the levels of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the effluent samples. While maximal bite force is a well-studied trait, other aspects of biting and their variation depending on behavior are rarely considered. Here, we took an innovative approach, where (1) we quantified a novel trait, bite duration in lizards; (2) we examined variation across setups that simulate feeding and antagonistic behavior; and (3) we used F-matrix statistics to investigate how different functional components are optimized for ecological and social demands with respect to individual morphology. Our results did not show differences between the sexes in bite duration, but bite performance varied across experimental setups in males, suggesting a higher functional flexibility in this sex. The investigation of form-function associations revealed that trade-offs, facilitations, and one-to-one relationships are simultaneously involved in the morphological optimization of bite force and duration. Put together, our integrated analysis of two different components of bite performance-force and duration-demonstrates their importance for males in both ecological and social tasks. Our findings also suggest the existence of trade-offs in the morphological optimization of functional components, possibly due to physiological constraints on muscle composition, insertion, and orientation.This study aimed to investigate effects of apple polyphenols (APPs) on myofiber-type transformation in longissimus dorsi muscle of finishing pigs and its mechanism. In this study, 36 healthy castrated Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire pigs with an average body weight of 71.25 ± 2.40 kg were randomly divided into three treatment groups (control, 0.04% APPs, 0.08% APPs). The experiment lasted for 49 days. Results showed that dietary APP supplementation increased the protein expression of MyHC I and the activities of succinic dehydrogenase and malate dehydrogenase, as well as decreased the protein expression of MyHC IIb and the activity of lactate dehydrogenase, suggesting that APPs promoted muscle fiber-type transformation from fast-twitch to slow-twitch in finishing pigs. We also showed that dietary 0.08% APP supplementation increased the expressions of mitochondrial biogenesis and function-related proteins PGC-1α, Sirt1 and Cytc. In addition, dietary supplementation with 0.08% APPs increased the activities of T-SOD, GSH-PX and CAT and decreased the MDA content. It has been translated into more than 20 languages and is widely used in clinical work. The K-SADS-PL has recently been revised by adopting new DSM-5 disorders and modifying probes accordingly. However, research on this revision is critically limited. The objective of this study was to examine the inter-rater reliability of the DSM-5 K-SADS-PL when administered by postgraduate students after receiving thorough training and supervision. METHOD The DSM-5 K-SADS-PL was applied in a clinical sample of two outpatient units The outpatient unit of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Landspítali University Hospital in Reykjavík, Iceland and The Icelandic Anxiety Centre for Children, Adolescents and Young Adults. RESULTS Fourty-one (80%) consecutive patients aged 6-18 years consented and were included. Cohen's κ was calculated to estimate inter-rater reliability, with estimates ranging from fair to excellent (κ = 0.57-0.90), with most diagnoses in the excellent range (κ > 0.75). CONCLUSIONS These results indicate that the Icelandic translation of the DSM-5 K-SADS-PL can be reliably administered by postgraduate students.Background Recent advances in less-invasive surgery and electrode design allow for a high degree of hearing preservation (HP) after cochlear implantation (CI), although residual hearing still deteriorates in some patients. To date, the factors predictive of preserving residual hearing remain a controversial topic.Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive factors, including the etiology of hearing loss (HL) as a patient-related factor, influencing residual HP after CI.Methods Forty-four patients (50 ears, 41 families) with residual acoustic hearing who underwent CI were included. Auditory thresholds before and at 6 months after initial activation were measured. Genetic testing was performed to identify the responsible genes for HL.Results We identified the cause of HL in 21 families (51.2%). HP was marginally correlated with age at implantation, while it was independent of pre-operative low-frequency hearing thresholds, cochlear duct length, and electrode length. We found that patients who had pathogenic variants in the CDH23, MYO7A, or MYO15A gene showed statistically better HP scores compared with patients with HL due to other causes (p = .002).Conclusions Identification of the etiology of HL using genetic testing is likely to facilitate the prediction of HP after implant surgery.Objective To develop an innovative prioritisation process to identify topics for new or updated systematic reviews of tinnitus research.Design A two-stage prioritisation process was devised. First, a scoping review assessed the amount of randomized controlled trial-level evidence available. This enabled development of selection criteria for future reviews, aided the design of template protocol and suggested the scale of work that would be required to conduct these reviews. Second, using the pre-defined primary and secondary criteria, interventions were prioritised for systematic review.Study sample Searches identified 1080 records. After removal of duplicates and out of scope works, 437 records remained for full data charting.Results The process was tested, using subjective tinnitus as the clinical condition and using Cochrane as the systematic review platform. The criteria produced by this process identified three high priority reviews (1) Sound therapy using amplification devices and/or sound generators; (2) Betahistine and (3) Cognitive behaviour therapy.
