Welding between an AuNi9 microwire and Au microlayer is of great importance for fabricating electrical contact structures for high precision inertial devices, satellite slip ring brushes, robots, etc. In this paper, the achievement of parallel micro-gap resistance welding (PMRW) with 200-μm AuNi9 microwires on a 3-μm Au layer was presented. The study on the orthogonal design of the experiment was carried out. The effect of the process parameters (welding current, welding time, and welding pressure) was discussed in reference to the morphologies and tensile force of the joint using range analysis. It is shown that too much or too little heat input will decrease the welding performance. A group of optimized process parameters (0.275 kA welding current, 3 ms welding time, and 28.7 N welding pressure) was obtained. During the welding process, the dynamic resistance of the whole welding system was measured, which can reflect the welding quality. Finite element simulation is utilized to calculate the welding temperature. The highest temperature was located in the center area of the AuNi9 microwire, reaching 1397.2 °C, which is higher than the melting point of AuNi9. By contrast, the highest temperature for the pad was 826.47 °C (lower than the melting point of Au). Hence, under optimized process parameters, a transient interfacial reaction between the liquid AuNi9 microwire and solid Au pad occurred, and the strength of the welded joint reached 5.54 N.This research proposes a nondestructive single-sensor acoustic emission (AE) scheme for the detection and localization of cracks in steel rail under loads. In the operation, AE signals were captured by the AE sensor and converted into digital signal data by AE data acquisition module. selleck chemicals The digital data were denoised to remove ambient and wheel/rail contact noises, and the denoised data were processed and classified to localize cracks in the steel rail using a deep learning algorithmic model. The AE signals of pencil lead break at the head, web, and foot of steel rail were used to train and test the algorithmic model. In training and testing the algorithm, the AE signals were divided into two groupings (150 and 300 AE signals) and the classification accuracy compared. The deep learning-based AE scheme was also implemented onsite to detect cracks in the steel rail. The total accuracy (average F1 score) under the first and second groupings were 86.6% and 96.6%, and that of the onsite experiment was 77.33%. The novelty of this research lies in the use of a single AE sensor and AE signal-based deep learning algorithm to efficiently detect and localize cracks in the steel rail, unlike existing AE crack-localization technology that relies on two or more sensors and human interpretation.Prior studies have found that exercise has a positive effect on depressive symptoms in the general population. For older individuals, however, the association between exercise and depressive symptoms is conclusive. We examined whether regular exercise is related to depressive symptoms in 5379 Korean adults aged ≥ 55 years using data from a 2016 survey administered in the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. We used the 10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale to assess depressive symptoms. We performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis to investigate the relationship between regular exercise and depressive symptoms, adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, self-rated health, number of chronic diseases, body mass index, hand-grip strength, physical disability, cognitive impairment, and health behavior. Interaction terms, including regular exercise and health-related factors, were also added. We found that a lack of regular exercise was significantly related to an increased frequency of depressive symptoms (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.03-1.35). Moreover, hand-grip strength may increase the effect of regular exercise on depressive symptoms in individuals 65 years and older (OR = 1.01 vs. 1.70, 95% CI = 1.05-1.96). Our results suggest that it is important to encourage older individuals to exercise regularly as a means of relieving depressive symptoms.Cryopreservation by negatively affecting sperm quality decreases the efficiency of assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs). Thus, we first evaluated sperm motility at different conditions for the manipulation of equine cryopreserved spermatozoa. Higher motility was observed when spermatozoa were incubated for 30 min at 30 × 106/mL compared to lower concentrations (p less then 0.05) and when a short centrifugation at 200× g was performed (p less then 0.05). Moreover, because sperm suitable for oocyte fertilization is released from oviduct epithelial cells (OECs), in response to the capacitation process, we established an in vitro OEC culture model to select a sperm population with potential fertilizing capacity in this species. We demonstrated E-cadherin and cytokeratin expression in cultures of OECs obtained. When sperm-OEC cocultures were performed, the attached spermatozoa were motile and presented an intact acrosome, suggesting a selection by the oviductal model. When co-cultures were incubated in capacitating conditions a greater number of alive (p less then 0.05), capacitated (p less then 0.05), with progressive motility (p less then 0.05) and with the intact acrosome sperm population was observed (p less then 0.05) suggesting that the sperm population released from OECs in vitro presents potential fertilizing capacity. Improvements in handling and selection of cryopreserved sperm would improve efficiencies in ARTs allowing the use of a population of higher-quality sperm.Golgi trafficking depends on the small GTPase Arf1 which, upon activation, drives the assembly of different coats onto budding vesicles. Two related types of guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) activate Arf1 at different Golgi sites. In yeast, Gea1 in the cis-Golgi and Gea2 in the medial-Golgi activate Arf1 to form COPI-coated vesicles for retrograde cargo sorting, whereas Sec7 generates clathrin/adaptor-coated vesicles at the trans-Golgi network (TGN) for forward cargo transport. A central question is how the same activated Arf1 protein manages to assemble different coats depending on the donor Golgi compartment. A previous study has postulated that the interaction between Gea1 and COPI would channel Arf1 activation for COPI vesicle budding. Here, we found that the p24 complex, a major COPI vesicle cargo, promotes the binding of Gea1 with COPI by increasing the COPI association to the membrane independently of Arf1 activation. Furthermore, the p24 complex also facilitates the interaction of Arf1 with its COPI effector. Therefore, our study supports a mechanism by which the p24 complex contributes to program Arf1 activation by Gea1 for selective COPI coat assembly at the cis-Golgi compartment.Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is useful for muscle strengthening and for motor restoration of stroke patients. Using a portable ultrasound instrument, we developed an M-mode imaging protocol to visualize contractions elicited by NMES in the quadriceps muscle group. To quantify muscle activation, we performed digital image processing based on the Teager-Kaiser energy operator. The proposed method was applied for 35 voluntary patients (18 women and 17 men), of 63.8 ± 14.1 years and body mass index (BMI) 30.2 ± 6.70 kg/m2 (mean ± standard deviation). Biphasic, rectangular electric pulses of 350 µs duration were applied at two frequencies (60 Hz and 120 Hz), and ultrasound was used to assess the sensory threshold (ST) and motor threshold (MT) amplitude of the NMES signal. The MT was 23.4 ± 4.94 mA, whereas the MT to ST ratio was 2.69 ± 0.57. Linear regression analysis revealed that MT correlates poorly with body mass index (R2 = 0.004) or with the thickness of the subcutaneous adipose tissue layer that covers the treated muscle (R2 = 0.013). Our work suggests that ultrasound is suitable to visualize neuromuscular reactivity during electrotherapy. The proposed method can be used in the clinic, enabling the physiotherapist to establish personalized treatment parameters.Allergic rhinitis (AR) is correlated with diseases including allergic laryngitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). The unified airway model suggests that inflammation can spread in both lower and upper respiratory tracts. Moreover, some voice problems-laryngeal edema, dysphonia, and vocal nodules-have been associated with AR. We examined the association between AR and laryngeal pathology. We investigated 51,618 patients with AR between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2013, along with 206,472 patients without AR matched based on age, gender, urbanization level, and socioeconomic status at a 14 ratio. We followed patients up to the end of 2013 or their death. The occurrence of laryngeal pathology was the primary outcome. Individuals with AR had a 2.43 times higher risk of laryngeal pathology than the comparison cohort group (adjusted HR 2.43, 95% CI 2.36-2.50, p less then 0.001). Patients diagnosed as having AR exhibited higher comorbidity rates, including of asthma, COPD, CRS, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and nasal septum deviation, than those of the comparison cohort. Our results strongly indicate that AR is an independent risk factor for laryngeal pathology. Therefore, when treating AR and voice problems, physicians should be attuned to possible laryngeal pathology. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an online high-intensity interval training (HIIT) intervention and health education on the behaviors, mental health, and cognitive function of sedentary young females. A single-blinded, six-week, randomized controlled pilot trial involving 70 sedentary young Chinese females, aged 18-30 years, was conducted. An intervention group (IG) (n = 33) underwent a HIIT intervention and health education, while a waitlist group (WG) (n = 37) only received health education. In pre-, mid-, and post-tests, both groups filled out questionnaires about physical activity, sedentary behavior, and mental health. Cognitive functions were assessed at the pre- and post-tests by computer-administered cognitive tests. A mixed-effect model with repeated measures was used to analyze outcomes of interest. The retention rate of the IG and WG was 100% and 78.38%, respectively. The IG were found to have significantly increased rates of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (Mdiff = 940ehaviors, but the behavioral consequences may differ based on the emphasis of different intervention modalities. Furthermore, the "bodyweight HIIT plus health education" modality might be a more promising online intervention strategy to mitigate against negative emotions and improve cognitive function.
To evaluate anterior capsule opening (ACO) contraction and late intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation after cataract surgery in patients with weak or partially absent zonular support and assess methods of reducing these complications.

For this prospective study, we enlisted cataract surgery patients in our hospital with preoperative diagnoses of weak zonules. All patients received phacoemulsification surgery with implantation of a hydrophobic acrylic IOL and capsular tension ring (CTR). ACO reductions were measured for six months after enrolment. Data on late IOL dislocations were collected five years after enrolment of the last patient.

Fifty-three patients were enrolled from 2011 to 2015. Over the six-month active follow-up period, ACO area reduction was 23% in patients receiving CTRs of 11 mm diameter and 8% for patients with CTRs of 12 mm, with an overall mean of 15% reduction. Five years after the last patient was enrolled, seven patients (13%) had experienced late IOL-CTR-capsular bag dislocation. For these patients, the mean ACO reduction in the first six months of follow-up was 33%, including for those who had received neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd YAG) anterior capsulotomies.
