This method represents an efficient rhodium(III)-catalyzed o-C-H arylation of readily available benzimidate derivatives with diverse arylsilanes in water as a sustainable solvent, enabling the straightforward synthesis of potentially useful biphenyl-2-carbonitrile derivatives. This silicon-based protocol employs benzimidates as both an efficacious directing group and the source of a nitrile group.Spontaneous collective oscillation may emerge from seemingly irregular active matter systems. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a spontaneous population oscillation of active granular particles confined in two chambers connected by a narrow channel, and verify the intriguing behavior predicted in simulation [M. Paoluzzi, R. Di Leonardo and L. Angelani, Self-sustained density oscillations of swimming bacteria confined in microchambers, Phys. Rev. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ndi-091143.html Lett., 2015, 115(18), 188303]. During the oscillation, the two chambers are alternately (nearly) filled up and emptied by the self-propelled particles in a periodic manner. We show that the stable unidirectional flow induced due to the confined channel and its periodic reversal triggered by the particle concentration difference between two chambers jointly give rise to the oscillatory collective behavior. Furthermore, we propose a minimal theoretical model that properly reproduces the experimental results without free parameters. This self-sustained collective oscillation could serve as a robust active granular clock, capable of providing rhythmic signals. In this study, perovskite-based nanocomposites as surface enhanced Raman scattering substrates were designed by physically sputtering Au nanoparticles onto fabricated all-inorganic CsPbIBr2 perovskite films, which provide much stronger SERS signals as compared to normal Au or perovskite substrates. Their synergism enhancement mechanisms and influence factors, including hybrid layer sequence, fabrication parameters and excitation source, are discussed. In addition, the prepared composite substrate exhibits excellent uniformity, reproducibility and time stability. This study promotes an easily prepared perovskite-based substrate for SERS-related applications and develops further understanding of molecule-semiconductor-noble metal nanostructure interfacial interactions.Benefiting from the merits of short response time, high current density, and differential pressure, the proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) is attracting increasing attention from both academic and industry researchers. A limiting factor that impedes the widespread application of the PEMWE is its reliance on the rarest elements, such as iridium and platinum. In order to optimize the device performance as well as to reduce the usage of rare elements, it is important but difficult to directly observe the reaction within the electrolyzer under working conditions. Thus, operando characterization methods are urgently needed to probe in real time the water electrolysis process during operation. In this perspective, we highlight the important role and summarize the recent advances of operando characterization methods in obtaining kinetic insights about PEMWEs. Based on the demands of kinetic optimization, an outlook of future characterization methods is given at the end.Metal-organic layers (MOLs), a category of two-dimensional materials, have attracted wide interest due to their molecular tunability and the ease of surface modification. Herein, we reported the synthesis and structural determination of a free-standing MOL, [Hf6O8H4(HCOO)2(H2O·OH)4]3[Hf12O16H8(HCOO)6.8(H2O·OH)11.2](TPO)8n, constructed from Hf6-oxo and Hf12-oxo clusters as secondary building units (SBUs) and the tris(4-carboxylphenyl)phosphine oxide (TPO) ligand. We establish a structure model of this new MOL based on the combined information from different characterization methods.Membrane protein interactions are challenging to identify because of the unique biophysical characteristics of both transmembrane proteins and membrane environments. The Receptor Display in Membranes Interaction Screen (RDIMIS) platform overcomes these challenges by screening transmembrane and membrane-proximal proteins in a membrane environment using recombinant extracellular vesicles (rEVs). The screen has been used to successfully identify interactions for difficult-to-study receptors in an unbiased manner. In this report, we detail how we generate rEVs, characterize the rEVs to ensure screen-readiness, and perform the full interaction screening, with emphasis on the criteria necessary to obtain clear, interpretable results. We also include support protocols for generating a screening library and validating screening results, as well as an alternate protocol for RDIMIS enabling the profiling of naturally occurring extracellular vesicles. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Although the protooncogenes small GTPases Ras are redox-sensitive proteins, how they are regulated by redox signaling in the central nervous system (CNS) is still poorly understood. Alteration in redox-sensitive targets by redox signaling may have myriad effects on Ras stability, activity and localization. Redox-mediated changes in astrocytic RAS may contribute to the control of redox homeostasis in the CNS that is connected to the pathogenesis of many diseases.
Here, we investigated the transient physiological induction, at both transcriptional and translational levels, of small GTPases Ras in response to redox stimulation. Cultured astrocytes were treated with hydrogen peroxide as in bolus addition and relative mRNA levels of murine
and
genes were detected by qRT-PCR. We found that
transcription of hras mRNA in reactive astrocytes is redox-sensitive and mimics the prototypical redox-sensitive gene iNOS. Protein abundance in combination with protein turnover measurements by cycloheximide-chase experiments revealed distinct translation efficiency, GTP-bound enrichment, and protein turnover rates between the two isoforms H-Ras and K-Ras.
Reports from recent years support a significant role of H-Ras in driving redox processes. Beyond its canonical functions, Ras may impact on the core astrocytic cellular machinery that operates during redox stimulation.

The application of heterogeneous structures has been favored by researchers of electromagnetic wave absorbent materials and the quest for simple preparation methods and homogeneous distribution of heterogeneous structures is continuing. In this study, we synthesized carbon sphere/Fe3O4 nanocrystal (CS/Fe3O4) composites by uniformly decorating Fe3O4 nanoparticles on the surface of carbon spheres through a simple strategy of expanding the heterogeneous structured interface. The heterogeneous interface formed by graphite and amorphous carbon in the carbon spheres is a boundary-type defect and combined with the magnetic loss capability of the Fe3O4 nanocrystals, this composite material has excellent electromagnetic wave absorption properties. The composite material synthesized with 0.05 M solution of iron nitrate has the best electromagnetic wave absorption performance of all samples due to the synergistic effect of interfacial polarization, eddy current loss, defect engineering, and magnetic energy attenuation capability. Reflection losses of -50.932 dB and -49.143 dB were achieved at 4.65 GHz and 10.6 GHz respectively, corresponding to thicknesses of 3.74 mm and 1.74 mm. In addition, the widest effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) at 1.27 mm was 4.5 GHz (13.50-18 GHz). This study enhances the electromagnetic wave absorption performance of carbon spheres by surface-decorating Fe3O4 nanoparticles, solves the problem of homogeneity of decorative magnetic oxides on the surface of carbon-based materials, and provides new ideas for the design of controllable, lightweight, ultra-thin composites of carbon-based electromagnetic wave absorbent materials that possess strong electromagnetic wave absorption capability.Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) is a method that allows one to select and dissect well-defined structures, specific cell subpopulations, or even single cells from different types of tissue for subsequent extraction of DNA, RNA, or proteins. Its precision allows the dissection of specific groups of cells, avoiding unwanted cells. However, despite its efficiency, several steps can affect the sample RNA integrity. RNA instability represents a challenge in the LCM method, and low RNA integrity can introduce biases, as different transcripts often have different degradation rates. Here we describe an optimized protocol to provide good-concentration and high-quality RNA from specific structures dentate gyrus and CA1 in the hippocampus, basolateral amygdala, and anterior cingulate cortex of mouse brain tissue. However, the protocol is applicable to other areas of interest. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Basic Protocol Laser capture microdissection of mouse brain tissue.
There have been conflicting reports concerning weight gain among adults during the COVID-19 epidemic. Although early studies reported large weight increases, several of these analyses were based on convenience samples or self-reported information. The objective of the current study is to examine the pandemic-related weight increase associated with the pandemic through May 2021.
A total of 4.25 million adults (18 to 84 years) in an electronic health record database who had at least two weight measurements between January 2019 and February 2020 and one after June 2020 were selected. Weight changes before and after March 2020 were contrasted using mixed-effects regression models.
Compared with the pre-pandemic weight trend, there was a small increase (0.1 kg) in weight in the first year of the pandemic (March 2020 through March 2021). Weight changes during the pandemic varied by sex, age, and initial BMI, but the largest mean increase across these characteristics was < 1.3 kg. Weight increases were generally greatest among women, adults with BMI of 30 or 35 kg/m
, and younger adults.
The results indicate that the mean weight gain among adults during the COVID-19 pandemic may be small.

Over the past few decades, researchers have continued to find ways to cure cancer. Currently, the most commonly used clinical techniques are surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and so on. Among them, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has received extensive attention due to its better therapeutic effect and lower side effects. However, the inherent microenvironmental hypoxia of tumor tissue leads to unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Therefore, researchers have conducted in-depth research on the hypoxia problem in PDT therapy. This review classified photodynamic therapy according to the response mechanism and summarized the strategies developed to overcome tumor hypoxia in recent years. Among them, research strategies can be divided into five types type I PDT photosensitizers, introducing exogenous oxygen, O2 carriers using nanomaterials, generating endogenous oxygen by catalytic reactions, and combination with prodrugs that inhibit the consumption of endogenous oxygen.
