[Optimisation du traitement médical en réadaptation cardiaque (City examine) : étude multicentrique française].
The angiographic median effective dose irradiation thresholds (ED50) were 45 µJ (90 mJ/cm2) at 8 µs, 52 µJ (104 mJ/cm2) at 12 µs, 59 µJ (118 mJ/cm2) at 16 µs, and 71 µJ (142 mJ/cm2) at 20 µs. Subretinal injection over the lasered area resulted in a controlled, shallow bRD rise, whereas control blebs were convex in shape, with less predictable spread.

Large-area, laser-based removal of host RPE without visible photoreceptor damage is possible and facilitates surgical retinal detachment.

Selective microsecond laser-based, large-area RPE removal prior to retinal cell therapy may reduce iatrogenic trauma.

Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and midlines are frequently used for short-term venous access; whether one is safer than the other in this setting has not been adequately reported.

To compare outcomes between patients who had a PICC vs midline placed for the indication of difficult vascular access or antibiotic therapy for 30 or fewer days.

This cohort study analyzed data from a multihospital registry including patients admitted to a participating site from December 2017 through January 2020 who had a PICC or midline placement for the indications of difficult venous access or intravenous antibiotic therapy prescribed for 30 or fewer days. Data were analyzed from October 2020 to March 2021.

PICC and midline placement.

Major complications, including a composite of symptomatic catheter-associated deep vein thrombosis (DVT), catheter-related bloodstream infection, and catheter occlusion. Logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression models (taking into account catheter dwel; however, the risk of DVT events was lower in patients who received PICCs vs midlines (hazard ratio, 0.53; 95% CI, 0.38-0.74). Results were robust to sensitivity analyses.

In this cohort study among patients with placement of midline catheters vs PICCs for short-term indications, midlines were associated with a lower risk of bloodstream infection and occlusion compared with PICCs. Whether DVT risk is similar or greater with midlines compared with PICCs for short-term use is unclear. Randomized clinical trials comparing these devices for this indication are needed.

However, the shadow offset and blur are also affected by the direction and angular extent of the light source and these are often unknown. This means that the observer must make some assumptions about the illumination, the expected distribution of depth, or the relation between offset and depth in order to use shadows to make distance judgments. Here, we measure human judgments of perceived depth over a range of shadow offsets, blurs, and lighting directions to gain insight into this internal model. We find that distance judgments are relatively unaffected by blur or light direction, whereas the shadow offset has a strong and linear effect. The data are consistent with two models, a generic shadow-to-depth model and a Bayesian model.
Strengthening premarket and postmarket surveillance of medical devices has long been an area of focus for health policy makers. The recent class I recall (the most serious of the US Food and Drug Administration [FDA] recalls) of reperfusion catheters manufactured by Penumbra, a US-based medical device company, illustrates issues of device safety and oversight that mandate attention.

To review the regulatory history and clinical evidence of the Penumbra JET 7 Reperfusion Catheter with Xtra Flex Technology (JET 7) and use the device recall as a case study of the challenges associated with clinical evaluation, transparency, and oversight of medical devices in the US.

Regulatory history and clinical evidence for the Penumbra medical devices were analyzed through a qualitative review of decision letters in the Access FDA database for medical devices and medical device reports in the Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience database and a review of market data (eg, earnings calls, company communicatiocal device regulation to protect public health.
The case study of JET 7 highlights the long-standing gaps in medical device oversight and renews the impetus to build on the Institute of Medicine recommendations and reform FDA medical device regulation to protect public health.A copper-mediated 2,3-difunctionalization of indoles to afford 3-halogenated 2,3'-biindoles is described herein. The protocol uses readily available feedstocks and a naturally abundant copper catalyst system, which allows the regioselective formation of C-C and C-X (X = Cl & Br) bonds in one single operation. Here the copper metal salt serves not only as a catalyst but also as a reactant to provide the source of halogen. This operationally simple procedure avoids the utilization of environmentally unfriendly reagents and displays good functional group compatibility. selleckchem Noteworthily, the introduction of halogen into molecules would offer great potential for further chemical transformations.Magnetic domain structures are active electron transport agents and can be used to induce large magnetoresistance (MR), particularly in half-metallic solids. We have studied the excess resistance induced by a single magnetic domain wall in a one-dimensional half-metallic CrO2 nanoscale conductor with a built-in constriction whose channel width (d) ranges from 30 to 200 nm. link2 We observed that the domain wall-induced MR is enhanced by 70 fold when d decreases from 200 nm to 30 nm. We speculate that the enhancement is due to the increased domain wall resistance (DWR) and the extra contribution of ballistic magnetoresistance (BMR). We have uncovered a large size effect of d on the MR induced by the domain wall, which scales with d as d-1.87±0.32. Accordingly, we predict that the MR ratio of a simple CrO2 nanowire impregnated with a constriction at a 150 nm2 cross-section could reach 100%. This large MR far exceeds that of a conventional ferromagnetic nanowire, confirming the role of half metallicity on enhanced magneto-transport.Porphyrin-based oligomers were synthesized from the condensation of adsorbed 4-benzaldehyde-substituted porphyrins through the formation of CC linkages, following a McMurry-type coupling scheme. Scanning tunneling microscopy, non-contact atomic force microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data evidence both the dissociation of aldehyde groups and the formation of CC linkages. Our approach provides a path for the on-surface synthesis of porphyrin-based oligomers coupled by CC bridges - as a means to create functional conjugated nanostructures. As a new generation of biomedical metallic materials, biodegradable metals have become a hot research topic in recent years because they can completely degrade in the human body, thus preventing secondary surgery, and reducing the pain and economic burden for patients. Clinical applications require biodegradable metals with adequate mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. Alloying is an important method to create biodegradable metals with required and comprehensive performances. Since nutrient elements already have important effects on various physiological functions of the human body, the alloying of nutrient elements with biodegradable metals has attracted much attention. The present review summarizes and discusses the effects of nutrient alloying elements on the mechanical properties, biodegradation behavior, and biocompatibility of biodegradable metals. Moreover, future research directions of biodegradable metals with nutrient alloying elements are suggested.Atherosclerosis is an important pathological basis for cardiovascular disease. Thus, the treatment of atherosclerosis can effectively improve the prognosis and reduce the mortality of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we developed simvastatin acid (SA)-loaded cross-linked dendrimer nanoparticles (SA PAM) that were adsorbed to the surface of red blood cells (RBCs) to obtain SA PAM@RBCs, a ROS and shear stress dual response drug delivery system for the treatment of atherosclerosis. SA PAM could continuously release SA in an H2O2-triggered manner, and effectively eliminate excessive H2O2 in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, achieving the target of using the special microenvironment at the plaque to release drugs. At the same time, the shear sensitive model also proved that only 12.4% of SA PAM detached from the RBCs under low shear stress (20 dynes per cm2), while 61.3% SA PAM desorbed from the RBCs under a high shear stress (100 dynes per cm2) stimulus, revealing that SA PAM could desorb in response to the shear stress stimulus. Both the FeCl3 model and ApoE-/- model showed that SA PAM@RBCs had better therapeutic effects than free SA, and with excellent safety in vivo. Therefore, a biomimetic drug delivery system with dual sensitivity to ROS and shear stress would become a promising strategy for the treatment of atherosclerosis.Metal sulfides are promising lithium-ion battery anode materials with high specific capacities, but there has been little in-depth discussion on the reaction mechanism of metal sulfides. In this study, a robust bimetallic sulfide heterogeneous material (Sb2S3-Co9S8/NC) based on a metal-organic framework was designed. The combination of in situ X-ray diffraction and ex situ transmission electron microscopy revealed the phase evolution behavior during the first cycle. link3 During the lithiation process, Sb2S3 undergoes lithium insertion, conversion and alloying reactions to form crystalline Li2S, Li3Sb and metallic Sb. Co9S8 undergoes lithium insertion and transformation to form metallic Co and Li2S. Lithium ions are extracted from the nanocrystalline phase and transformed into the original Sb2S3 and Co9S8 phases. The Sb2S3-Co9S8/NC anode exhibits excellent cycle stability (616 mA h g-1 at 2 A g-1 after 900 cycles) and fast lithium ion transfer kinetics. These results demonstrate the lithiation/delithiation mechanism of the Sb2S3-based anode and provide a new path for the development of high-performance LIB anodes based on bimetallic sulfides.Intramolecular hydroarylation-redox cross-dehydrogenative coupling of N-propargylanilines with phosphite diesters proceeded in the presence of Cu(I)-catalysts (20 mol%) to selectively give 2-phosphono-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines in good yields with 100% atomic utilization. P-H and two C-H bonds are activated at once and these hydrogen atoms are trapped by a propargylic triple bond in the molecule.Chiral substituted pyrrolidines are key elements in various biologically active molecules and are therefore valuable synthetic targets. One traditional method towards enantiomerically pure compounds is the application of kinetic resolution. In this review, current KR methodology used in the synthesis of substituted pyrrolidines is surveyed, including enzymatic methods, cycloadditions and reduction of ketones.
