The prognosis of inflammation-related indicators like lactate dehydrogenase/albumin ratio (LAR) and the platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is not yet clear. selleck inhibitor Our objective is to establish and verify the nomogram using LAR and PLR ratio for the first time to explore the prognostic value in NPC.

This was a retrospective collection of 1661 patients with non-metastatic NPC admitted to our hospital from 2010 to 2017. The final variables of overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were selected by Cox regression analysis to establish nomograms, and the methods to verify the prediction precision and discriminative ability of the nomograms were concordance index (C index), the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve. The risk stratification was carried out through the nomograms and compared with the current staging system by the Kaplan-Meier methods.

Multivariate Cox analysis resulted that age, plasma Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA, T stagn current staging system for NPC patients.
To investigate the relationship between iodine intake status and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) through a population-based survey.

In total, 2691 Chinese adults participated in this cross-sectional study, and they were stratified by urinary iodine concentration (UIC) and sex. Fasting blood samples were used to assess biochemical parameters, including thyroid function and antibodies. Urine samples were collected in the morning to measure UIC. Multivariate regression logistic analysis was performed for the overall population and sex subgroups.

An inverse association was observed between iodine intake status and MetS prevalence in Chinese adults. Compared with individuals with adequate iodine status, those with high-iodine status had significantly low MetS risks, and the adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) were 0.70 (0.57-0.86,
<0.01) and 0.75 (0.6-0.95,
<0.05). A high MetS risk was observed in the iodine-deficient group, which did not reach statistical significance. There was a significant inverse linear trend between the risk of MetS and UIC in the total population and male subgroup (
for trend <0.05), which was not observed in the female subgroup (
for trend >0.05).

An inverse association was observed between iodine intake status and the risk of developing MetS in Chinese adults. Sufficient iodine status is a potential protective factor for MetS development. Males may benefit from increased iodine intake, while females would need to achieve a more-than-adequate iodine status to gain metabolic benefits.

Successful treatment of
-associated infection is complicated by the emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR), particularly in clinical settings. This urges searching for new alternatives to encounter such health problem.

This study aimed to evaluate certain antibiotic combinations and CNPs either alone or in combination of some selected antibiotics for the purpose of combating MDR
clinical isolates.

A total of 51
clinical isolates were recovered from discharged clinical specimens of the Clinical Microbiology Central Laboratory of AL Kasr Al Aini hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Conventional standard Lab tests were used for identification followed by
A gene testing for confirmation. Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were conducted out according to CLSI guidelines. Genotypic analysis using Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus-polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR) of the respective isolates showed that they were clustered in nine clones. The prepared CNPs were characterized by dynamic light scatEM and TGC+MEM significantly increased the susceptibilities of the MDR
isolates to these antibiotics by 88.8%, 66.6%, 100%, 77.7%, and 44.4%, respectively. No significant effects were observed when CNPs (5 mg/mL) were combined with CT+TGC.

The current study demonstrated the significant in-vitro activities of CNPs either alone or in combination with CT, TGC or MEM, CT+MEM and TGC+MEM and the successful combinations of MEM either with CT or with TGC against the MDR
pathogens. However, further in vivo studies should be conducted to verify such activities and their potential use in human.

Carbapenem-resistant
(CRKP) infections have become a serious threat with high morbidity and mortality. Early identification of risk factors for CRKP infections is important, but these factors are still controversial. Therefore, we aimed to identify the risk factors and clinical outcomes of CRKP infections.

The retrospective, single-center study was carried out in the respiratory intensive care unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital from 2017 to 2020. Patients infected with
were included and categorized into the CRKP group and carbapenem-sensitive
(CSKP) group based on the susceptibility to carbapenems. The independent risk factors were investigated by univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The clinical outcomes were also evaluated between the two groups.

A total of 138 eligible patients were included in our study, with a median age of 80.5 years (interquartile range 62.0-86.3), and 78.3% of them were males. Of the 138 patients, there were 97 pary catheter were independent risk factors for CRKP infections, which had higher mortality compared with CSKP infections. Early detection of high-risk patients and timely control measures should be implemented to prevent the emergence of CRKP infections and thereby improve the clinical outcomes.
Studies have shown that multiple genes influence antibiotic susceptibility, but the relationship between genotypic and phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility is unclear. We sought to analyze the concordance between the presence of antibiotic resistance (ABR) genes and antibiotic susceptibility results in urine samples collected from patients with symptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI).

Urine samples were collected from patients presenting to 37 geographically disparate urology clinics across the United States from July 2018 to February 2019. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction was used to detect 27 ABR genes. In samples containing at least one culturable organism at a concentration of ≥ 10
cells per mL, pooled antibiotic susceptibility testing (P-AST), which involves simultaneous growing all detected bacteria together in the presence of antibiotic and then measure susceptibility, was performed against 14 antibiotics. The concordance rate between the ABR genes and the P-AST results was generated for theecisions in UTI management. However, when used in conjunction with susceptibility testing, ABR gene data can offer valuable clinical information for antibiotic stewardship.
To evaluate the contribution of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and impulse oscillometry (IOS) and spirometric parameters in predicting bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) in adults with chronic cough.

In total, 112 patients with chronic cough were enrolled in this prospective diagnostic study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated to assess the diagnostic efficiency and optimal cut-off values of FeNO and IOS and spirometric parameters in predicting BHR. Optimal combinations of FeNO and IOS and spirometric parameters for BHR prediction were investigated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression models. Bootstrapping was employed for internal validation. Model discrimination and calibration were assessed using indices and calibration plots.

Rhinitis and values of FeNO, IOS parameters (resonant frequency (Fres), reactance at 5 Hz (X5), and integrated area of low-frequency X (AX)) and spirometric parameters (FEV1, PEF, MEF
, MEF
, MEF
, MMEF) were significantly different between patients with BHR and those without BHR (P < 0.05). After adjusting for rhinitis, logistic analyses showed that FeNO combined with Fres, FeNO combined with MMEF, or the combination of FeNO, Fres and MMEF had high predictive value in diagnosing BHR; the areas under the ROC curves (AUCs) of the corresponding three models were 0.914, 0.919 and 0.927, respectively. In addition, the three models displayed good discrimination, with high C-index values and good calibration.

FeNO combined with Fres or MMEF or a combination of these three parameters may be conveniently used as indicators in BHR prediction.

of which N-methyl-2,3-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-1Н-indol (
) is reported herein for the first time, along with known C-benzylated dihydrochalcone uvaretin (
), bis(2-ethylheptyl) phthalate (
), lupeol (
) and suberosin derivwith the traditional uses of studied plants.
The results obtained suggest that N-methyl-2,3-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-1Н-indol (1) and coumarin (5) are potential topoisomerase II α inhibitors and might be used as anticancer agents. The ADMET studies showed the highest drug-likeness properties for studied compounds other than bis(2-ethylheptyl) phthalate (3). DFT calculations suggested that studied compounds showed the lowest gap energy and were chemically reactive, and isolated compounds may serve as potential drug candidates that corroborate with the traditional uses of studied plants. The use of telepharmacy technology allows pharmacists to provide clinical pharmaceutical services to patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) who need regular services during the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining distance and minimizing face-to-face meetings. The purpose of this review article was to identify the impact of telepharmacy intervention by pharmacists in diabetic patients by reviewing clinical outcomes and patient therapy adherences. A literature search was conducted through the PubMed database using the terms "telemedicine", "telepharmacy", "telehealth" and "telephone" in combination with "pharmacist", 'diabetes' and 'COVID-19' or "Pandemic". From a total of 67 articles identified, 14 research articles conform to the inclusion criteria. Telephone is the most widely used communication model (n = 11). All studies had a positive impact on clinical outcomes and three studies did not provide significant result on therapy adherence. The use of telepharmacy can be maximized and used on a vast scale, with the design of devices and technologies making it easier for pharmacists and diabetic patients to provide and receive clinical pharmaceutical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
