She was initially treated empirically with antibiotics, without clinical improvement. The infectious diseases work-up was unrevealing, and other diagnostic possibilities were meticulously excluded. Clinical suspicion for RP ultimately led to appropriate therapy with corticosteroids and subsequent immunosuppression with methotrexate, resulting in clinical improvement and allowing for gradual tapering of steroids. CONCLUSIONS RP is an uncommon multisystem disorder that can occur in the setting of other underlying chronic illnesses, as seen in our patient. It has a variable presentation and course, with no diagnostic laboratory tests; therefore, clinical suspicion is imperative for appropriate diagnosis and management.
The objective of this scoping review is to describe practices for supporting children's self-regulation in the classroom.
Self-regulation is an integral component of children's well-being and learning in the classroom. Self-regulation is a broad concept that encompasses behavioral, emotional, cognitive, or sensory regulation processes. Children often struggle to self-regulate in class and teachers have difficulty supporting them, which impacts on children's participation and academic achievement, and teachers' self-efficacy and well-being.
This review will consider studies that include mainstream primary school children regardless of diagnosis or disability, classroom teachers, and allied health professionals who provide services in mainstream public or private school settings. Self-regulation-support practices may include pedagogical, classroom- or curriculum-based practices, environmental modifications, class-management strategies, adult-child relationships, and trauma-informed classroom practices.
The review will be conducted using the JBI three-step search strategy. The databases to be searched include MEDLINE (Ovid), PsycINFO (Ovid), Scopus, CINAHL (Ovid), OTSeeker, and ERIC (ProQuest). Documents from 2010 to the present in English will be included. Data will be extracted and charted by two reviewers using a data extraction tool based on JBI recommendations. Study findings will be presented in tabular or diagrammatic format that aligns with the objective and a narrative summary will be provided.

This article discusses nonpharmacologic pain management interventions for alternative or concomitant use with nonopioid medications. Potential barriers as well as facilitators to integrating nonpharmacologic interventions are discussed as they relate to nursing practice.

The field of psychiatric nursing provides unique opportunities for nurse-patient interactions. Nurses working in inpatient psychiatric settings face constant challenges that may hinder the development of meaningful nurse-patient interactions. Peplau's theory of interpersonal relations emphasized the importance of nurse-patient relationships in nursing care. Therapeutic alliance can help promote nurse-patient relationships and may help nurses and patients achieve their goals. This article presents several phases of a concept-building process that illustrates the importance of therapeutic alliance and its application in mental health care.

Recommendations for social distancing and avoidance of mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic have correlated with increased depressive symptoms in some individuals, such as loss of interest in daily activities, sleeplessness, or sadness. link3 Perinatal depression screening using established, validated tools can aid with early diagnosis, guide management strategies, and optimize outcomes for pregnant women and their families. Identifying at-risk patients early in pregnancy and implementing a plan of care with appropriate mental health resources such as counseling or therapy have been shown to decrease clinical depression by more than 40%.

Patient safety attendants (PSAs) provide constant direct observation to patients who have cognitive impairments or thoughts. Some estimates report that an acute care hospital in the United States may spend more than $1 million annually on PSAs, an expenditure often not reimbursed. With no national defined standards to regulate or monitor PSA use, this study sought to determine the impact of COVID-19 on a PSA reduction program in a large Midwestern healthcare system.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is a previously unrecognized and potentially catastrophic illness that appears in children who have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19. As healthcare agents and members of the community, nurses are positioned to assist in identifying children who may experience previously unrecognized complications of infection from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The second of a two-part series, this article describes eight recently approved drugs, including the first drug approved for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2, a first-in-class HIV attachment inhibitor, and a new intravenous injection indicated for the treatment of acute pain in adults for whom other treatments are ineffective.
The second of a two-part series, this article describes eight recently approved drugs, including the first drug approved for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2, a first-in-class HIV attachment inhibitor, and a new intravenous injection indicated for the treatment of acute pain in adults for whom other treatments are ineffective.Interventional cardiologists are significantly exposed to X-rays and no dose of radiation may be considered well tolerated or harmless. Leaded aprons protect the trunk and the thyroid gland, leaded glasses protect the eyes. The operator's legs, arms, neck and head are, instead, not fully protected. In fact, the operator's brain remains the closest part to the primary X-ray beam and scatter in most interventional procedures and specifically the physician's front head is the most exposed region during device implantation performed at the patient's side. After the initial description of cases of brain and neck tumours, additional reports on head and neck malignancies have been published. Although a direct link between operator radiation exposure and brain cancer has not been established, these reports have heightened awareness of a potential association. The use of lead-based cranial dedicated shields may help reduce operator exposure but upward scattered radiation, weight and poor tolerability have raised concerns and hindered widespread acceptance. The purpose of this review is to describe current knowledge on occupational X-ray exposure of interventional cardiologists, with a special focus on the potential risks for the head and neck and efficacy of available protection devices.
Iron deficiency (ID) is present in half of patients with heart failure. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is a valuable tool for evaluating patients with heart failure. The T2 Star (T2*) sequence technique was developed within CMR to evaluate iron overload, but its role for assessing myocardial iron content remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to assess correlations between T2* and blood tests for iron metabolism in patients with heart failure and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 50%.
A total of 47 patients were analyzed. Mean age was 50.1±14.3 years and most were male (59.6%) and white (74.5%). Mean T2* value and LVEF in CMR were 36.5±6.6 ms and 30.7±12% respectively. The main etiology of heart failure was nonischemic (76.6%). Iron deficiency was diagnosed in 40.4% and anemia was diagnosed in 17%. No significant correlations were found between T2* and transferrin saturation (r= -0.063, P=0.678), ferritin (r= -0.164, P=0.272), or serum iron (r= 0.099, P=0.512). Age was negatively correlated (r= -0.330; P= 0.024) as heart rate at rest (r= -0.427; P= 0.003) was also negatively correlated. Hemoglobin and LVEF were not correlated with T2*. No difference in T2* was found in relation to heart failure etiology, presence or absence of anemia, or ejection fraction categories.
The T2* sequence in CMR had no correlation with transferrin saturation, ferritin, or serum iron in patients with heart failure and LVEF ≤ 50%. These findings constitute additional evidence that blood tests for iron metabolism do not reflect intramyocardial iron content.
