In this study, we reviewed patients with nonsyndromic SMCP who received Furlow palatoplasty between 2008 and 2017 at our department. A comprehensive panel of preoperative variables was included for analyses including gender, age at operation, concurrence of cleft lip, preoperative hypernasality, nasal emission, velopharyngeal closure ratio (VCR), velopharyngeal closure pattern, velum and pharyngeal wall movement, presence of Passavant Ridge and articulation error. The improvement of velopharyngeal function was considered a good outcome. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to screen the potential predictors of the postoperative velopharyngeal function. Multivariate regression analyses indicated preoperative VCR as the only factor that was significantly associated with surgical outcome (p = 0.025). The receiver operating characteristic curve and Youden index indicated that VCR>52.5% was the cutoff value for predicting preferable postoperative velopharyngeal function (OR, 0.240; 95% IC, 0.059-0.979; p = 0.047). In conclusion, Furlow palatoplasty was recommended for non-syndromic SMCP patient with preoperative VCR>52.5% as the primary surgical treatment.Mitochondrial respiratory chain integrity depends on a number of proteins encoded by nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. Biochemical analysis in patient cells and tissues showed abnormal function of the mitochondrial respiratory chain in muscle and abnormal mitochondrial cristae structure. These new cases underline the large spectrum of biochemical and clinical presentations of ATAD3A deficiency and the different modes of inheritance, making it an atypical mitochondrial disorder.

Using a between-subject repeated measures design, we assessed stride mechanics, variability and LRCs in recreational and elite runners over the course of a continuous exhaustive run. All subjects ran at a fixed, pre-determined running speed relative to their maximal performance. Stride parameters were continually recorded using a single foot-mounted inertial measurement unit. It was hypothesized that a significant reduction in the strength of the LRCs would occur over the course of the run and that the observed changes would be more pronounced in the group of recreational runners.

Most repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) studies aiming to reduce auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) in schizophrenia target the left temporo-parietal junction (TPJ), but the efficacy of this approach remains controversial. The observed differences in efficacy could be attributed to inaccurate target localization. Here, to precisely quantify anatomical bias induced by localization method, we developed a free open-source software (GeodesicSlicer) that computes shortest curved path (i.e. geodesic) between rTMS targets. link3 Here we compare a personalized target with accurate anatomical criteria with a standardized target based on the 10-20 EEG system (the middle between T3 and P3 electrodes T3P3).

We compare in 69 patients with schizophrenia the geodesic distances of two approaches for rTMS target localization within the left TPJ. In addition, we characterize the personalized target according to the 10-20 EEG system.

A differential of 3cm in term of geodesic distance between rTMS localization approaches was observed. Moreover, this personalized target to treat AVH is located at 25% in the T3-P3 axis.

We have previously shown that probiotics protected against high-fat diet (HFD)-induced depressive-like behaviour in Flinders Sensitive Line (FSL) rats, whereas FSL rats on control (CON) diet were unaffected. Therefore, we hypothesised that a dysmetabolic component of depression may exist that involves the gut microbiota and that such component may be reflected in the plasma metabolome. The aims of the present study post hoc analyses were 1) to study the effect of probiotics on gut microbiota composition and its association with depressive-like behaviour in FSL rats, and 2) to identify plasma metabolites associated with gut microbiota and depressive-like behaviour. Forty-six FSL rats were fed CON or HFD and treated with multi-species probiotics (nine Bifidobacterium, Lactococcus and Lactobacillus species) for 12 weeks. Faecal samples were collected for 16S rRNA (VR4) gene amplicon sequencing (Illumina MiSeq), and an untargeted plasma metabolomics was performed. We found that probiotics increased the relative faecal abundance of the Bifidobacterium, Lactococcus and Lactobacillus genera in HFD-fed rats only. Also, a HFD-induced microbiota component associated with depressive-like behaviour was identified, and probiotics improved the component score. Finally, the plasma levels of 44 metabolites correlated with the depression-related microbiota component, and three such metabolites had good predictive ability for depressive-like behaviour.
