The change in daily patients and prescribers between March 2, 2020 and May 12, 2020, was modeled as a change in slope compared to the baseline period using autoregressive, interrupted time series regression.

The rate of change of daily buprenorphine prescriptions (β = -1.75, 95% CI = -5.8-2.34) and prescribers (β = -0.32, 95% CI = -1.47-0.82) declined insignificantly during the COVID-19 period compared to the baseline.

Despite a 57% decline in ambulatory care utilization in the south-central US during March and April of 2020, health services utilization related to buprenorphine in Texas remained robust. Protecting access to buprenorphine as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold will require intensive efforts from clinicians and policy makers alike. While the presented results are promising, researchers must continue monitoring and exploring the clinical and humanistic impact of COVID-19 on the treatment of substance use disorders.

The COVID-19 epidemic in the United States has hit in the midst of the opioid overdose crisis. Emergency medical services (EMS) clinicians may limit their use of intranasal naloxone due to concerns of novel coronavirus infection. We sought to determine changes in overdose events and naloxone administration practices by EMS clinicians.

Between April 29, 2020 and May 15, 2020, we surveyed directors of EMS fellowship programs across the US about how overdose events and naloxone administration practices had changed in their catchment areas since March 2020.

Based on 60 respondents across all regions of the country, one fifth of surveyed communities have experienced an increase in opioid overdoses and events during which naloxone was administered, and 40% have experienced a decrease. The findings varied by region of the country. Eighteen percent of respondents have discouraged or prohibited the use of intranasal naloxone with 10% encouraging the use of intramuscular naloxone.

These findings may provide insight into changes in opioid overdose mortality during this time and assist in future disaster planning.

Clinical registries provide insight on the quality of patient care by providing data to identify associations and patterns in diagnosis, disease, and treatment. This has led to a push toward using large data sets in healthcare research. Nurse researchers are developing data registries, but most are unaware of how to manage a data registry. This article examines a neuroscience nursing registry to describe a quality control and data management process.

Our registry contains more than 90 000 rows of data from almost 5000 patients at 4 US hospitals. Data management is a continuous process that consists of 5 phases screening, data organization, diagnostic, treatment, and missing data. These phases are repeated with each registry update.

The interdisciplinary approach to data management resulted in high-quality data, which was confirmed by missing data analysis. Most technical errors could be systematically diagnosed and resolved using basic statistical outputs, and fixed in the source file.

In randomized controlled trials, L-menthol inhibits gastrointestinal peristalsis during endoscopy. Our goal was to quantitatively synthesize the available evidence to evaluate the efficacy and safety of L-menthol for gastrointestinal endoscopy.

We comprehensively searched for relevant studies published up to January 2020 in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. The main outcomes consisted of the proportion of no peristalsis, proportion of no or mild peristalsis, adenoma detection rate, and adverse events.

Eight randomized controlled trials analyzing 1,366 subjects were included. According to the pooled data, L-menthol significantly improved the proportion of no peristalsis (odds ratio [OR] = 6.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 4.94-8.57, P < 0.00001), and the proportion of no or mild peristalsis (OR = 7.89, 95% CI = 5.03-12.39, P < 0.00001) compared with the placebo, whereas it was not associated with an improvement in the adenoma detection rate (OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.54-1.99, P = 0.92). Adverse events did not differ significantly between the 2 groups (OR = 1.40, 95% CI = 0.75-2.59, P = 0.29).

Some colorectal cancers (CRCs) may be missed during colonoscopies. We aimed to determine the clinicopathological, biological, and genomic characteristics of post-colonoscopy CRCs (PCCRCs).

Of the 1,619 consecutive patients with 1,765 CRCs detected between 2008 and 2016, 63 patients with 67 PCCRCs, when colonoscopies were performed 6-60 months before diagnosis, were recruited. After excluding patients with inflammatory bowel disease, familial polyposis syndrome, CRCs that developed from diminutive adenomatous polyps, and recurrent CRCs after endoscopic resection, 32 patients with 34 PCCRCs were enrolled. The lesions' clinicopathological features, mismatch repair proteins (MMRs), and genomic alterations were investigated.

The overall PCCRC-5y rate, rate of intramucosal (Tis) lesions, and rate of T1 or more deeply invasive cancers were 3.7% (66/1,764), 3.9% (32/820), and 3.6% (34/944), respectively. Thirty-three patients' MMRs were investigated; 7 (21%) exhibited deficient MMRs (dMMRs), comprising 4 with T2 or more deeply invasive cancers and 5 whose lesions were in the proximal colon.
