The results indicated that there was no obvious antagonism between S. cerevisiae and Z. bailli or P. kudriavzevii in sequential fermentations, and all strains could be detected at the end of alcoholic fermentation. Compare with S. cerevisiae pure fermentation, Z. bailii/S. cerevisiae sequential fermentations significantly reduced higher alcohols, fatty acids, and ethyl esters and increased acetate esters; P. kudriavzevii/S. cerevisiae sequential fermentations reduced the contents of C6 alcohols, total higher alcohols, fatty acids, and ethyl esters and significantly increased the contents of acetate esters (especially ethyl acetate and 3-methylbutyl acetate). Sarecycline is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic treatment option. Here, we investigated the effect of prolonged sarecycline exposure, compared with broad-spectrum tetracyclines (doxycycline and minocycline) upon the colonic microbiota. Three in vitro models of the human colon were instilled with either minocycline, doxycycline or sarecycline, and we measured microbiota abundance and diversity changes during and after antibiotic exposure. Significant reductions in microbial diversity were observed following minocycline and doxycycline exposure, which failed to recover post antibiotic withdrawal. Specifically, minocycline caused a ~10% decline in Lactobacillaceae and Bifidobacteriaceae abundances, while doxycycline caused a ~7% decline in Lactobacillaceae and Bacteroidaceae abundances. Both minocycline and doxycycline were associated with a large expansion (>10%) of Enterobacteriaceae. Sarecycline caused a slight decline in bacterial diversity at the start of treatment, but abundances of most families remained stable during treatment. Metagenome sequencing was used to investigate the differences in microbial composition and genetic functions of LA and SA systems, with special emphasis on their degradational potential toward carbohydrates. Results showed that the dominant species composition was similar between the two systems, but SA microorganisms had a higher relative abundance than LA microorganisms in all taxa. The concentration of fiber-degrading bacteria, such as Ruminococcus, Treponema, and Fibrobacter, was higher and Prevotella was lower in the SA vs. LA system. Additionally, SA microorganisms dominated in cellulose degradation, while LA microorganisms were more important in starch utilization based on the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) Orthology (KO)'s functional categories and Carbohydrate-Active Enzymes (CAZymes). In general, SA microorganisms are more abundant and important in metabolic functions than LA, such as carbohydrate and amino acid metabolisms. In summary, the key differential biomarkers between LA and SA systems were Prevotella, Ruminococcus, Treponema, and Fibrobacter. Ruminal microbes degraded carbohydrates synergistically with SA, thus, more focusing on cellulose and hemicellulose, while LA is more important to starch.
This study aimed to determine the frequency of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV) in mucosa and blood of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in China and evaluate their correlation with the clinical disease activities.

Peripheral blood and endoscopic fresh colonic mucosal samples were collected from a cohort of 287 IBD patients and 50 controls. Viral DNA load was analyzed through quantitative real-time PCR. The clinical disease activity of ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) was assessed by the Mayo Clinic Score and Crohn's disease activity index, respectively.

Among 287 IBD patients, 228 (79.4%) were positive for EBV and 99 (34.5%) were positive for CMV. EBV and CMV infection rates are significantly higher than those in the control group (28.0%,
 < 0.05; 4.0%,
 < 0.05). In addition, EBV/CMV prevalence increases as clinical activities progress [For EBV infection, the prevalence was 53.93% (48/89) in the mild group, 87.00% (87/100) in the moderate group, and 94.9ith the status of mucosa in the same patients (active phase versus remission phase). Caragana intermedia (CI) and Caragana korshinskii (CK) harvested at the budding (BU) and blooming (BL) stages were used as raw materials to prepare silage, respectively. The silages at each growth stage were treated for ensiling alone (control), with 5% rice bran (RB), a combination of RB with commercial Lactobacillus plantarum (RB + LP), and a combination of RB with a selected strain Lactobacillus plantarum L694 (RB + L694).
