Dissolved silicic acid in the environment has strong affinity for actinides (An), but An(III)-silicate colloids have been scarcely investigated. In this study, Eu(III)-silicate colloids, an analogue to An(III)-silicate, were prepared and the aggregation kinetics of the colloids was investigated as a function of Eu content (Si/Eu molar ratio), pH, background electrolyte (NaCl, NaNO3, NaClO4, KCl and CsCl) and fulvic acid (FA). Results indicated that the colloids with higher Si/Eu molar ratio exhibited higher stability under the same conditions. The stability of the colloids increased with increasing aqueous pH (7.1-9.4) and decreasing ionic strength, and the inhibition effect of monovalent electrolytes on the colloid stability followed the order of Na+ less then K+ less then Cs+ and Cl- less then NO3- less then ClO4-. In addition, the presence of FA significantly increased the stability of the colloids. The dependence of the stability on the chemical conditions in all cases could be illustrated by DLVO theory. Disaggregation kinetics showed that the aggregation process of the colloids was not fully reversible, because a time-dependent size memory effect led to a bigger mean size of disaggregated colloids as compared to the initial ones. NSC 23766 cell line The present work provides detailed insight in the formation and stability of An(III)-silicate colloids under the alkaline conditions relevant to geological disposal of radioactive waste, which is critical for understanding the behavior of this type of colloids in the environment.To realize the efficient resource utilization of sewage sludge, this work explored the competitive relationship and reaction mechanisms between syngas quality optimization and heavy metals (HMs) immobilization. The results showed that continuous microwave pyrolysis (CMP) technology with an instantaneous temperature increase could shorten the pyrolysis time, and the biogas yield and syngas concentration reached 51.68 wt% and 83.6 vol%, respectively. Although a higher pyrolysis (750 °C) temperature could optimize the syngas quality, the HMs immobilization efficiency was reduced due to the deep pyrolysis of the biochar. The moderate pyrolysis temperature (650 °C) facilitated the rapid formation of biochar with abundant surface functional groups and pore structure, thus enhancing HMs immobilization. Furthermore, the HMs could also form more stable crystalline compounds with inorganic components (SiO2, Al2O3, inorganic sulfur). By optimizing the process parameters, the risk factor of HMs in the sludge decreased from 117.36 to 62.5 while obtaining high-quality syngas. The energy utilization efficiency of microwave pyrolysis also increased significantly from 11.20% to 82.01%. This work provided new insight into the efficient resource utilization and environmentally friendly treatment of sludge, and demonstrated that CMP technology has significant potential for future industrial applications as an alternative to traditional pyrolysis.Anaerobic digestion (AD) is widely used to treat livestock manure that harbors diverse pollutants (resistance genes (ARGs), metal/biocide resistance genes (MBRGs), integron-integrase genes, human pathogens and pathogen virulence factors (VFs)). However, the interplays of these pollutants and the effects of substrate complexity on pollutants in AD are elusive. This study investigated the dynamics of these pollutants and bacterial communities during AD of swine manure, by metatranscriptomic sequencing and amplicon sequencing of 16 S rRNA and 16 S rRNA gene. The pollutant profiles and bacterial communities differed across AD processes, nevertheless with consistent dominance of ARGs of multi-drugs, tetracycline, aminoglycoside and rifamycin, MBRGs of multi-biocides, multi-metals, copper and arsenic, the integron-integrase gene intI1, potential pathogens of Escherichia coli, Streptococcus gallolyticus and Clostridium perfringens, VFs involved in pathogen adherence, and bacterial phyla of Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria. Reduced substrate complexity (replacing a part of swine manure, a complex substrate, with a simple substrate, apple waste or fructose) decreased the prevalence and stochastic turnover of ARGs and MBRGs. Network analyses revealed decreased interplays among pollutants under reduced substrate complexity. Our findings provide a mechanical understanding of diverse pollutants dynamics during AD, and reveal the importance of substrate complexity in controlling prevalence and interplays of pollutants.This study investigated the effects of microalgae growth on antibiotic removal and the attenuation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs)/ARGs host bacteria in algal-bacterial granular sludge (ABGS) system. In the presence of tetracycline (TC) and sulfadiazine (SDZ) mixture (2-4 mg/L), microalgae could grow on bacterial granular sludge (BGS) to form ABGS, with a chlorophyll-a content of 7.68-8.13 mg/g-VSS being achieved. The removal efficiencies of TC and SDZ by ABGS were as high as 79.0 % and 94.0 %, which were 4.3-5.0 % higher than those by BGS. Metagenomic analysis indicated that the relative abundances of TC/SDZ- related ARGs and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in BGS were 56.1 % and 22.1 % higher than those in ABGS. A total of 26 ARGs were detected from the granules, and they were identified to associate with 46 host bacteria. 13 out of 26 ARGs and 13 out of 46 hosts were shared ARGs and hosts, respectively. The total relative abundance of host bacteria in BGS was 30.8 % higher than that in ABGS. Scenedesmus and Chlorella were the dominant microalgae that may reduce the diversity of ARGs hosts. Overall, ABGS is a promising biotechnology for antibiotic-containing wastewater treatment.A dual-stream dissociation for separate phonological and semantic processing has been implicated in adults' language processing, but it is unclear how this dissociation emerges with development. By employing a graph-theory based brain network analysis, we compared functional interaction architecture during a rhyming and meaning judgment task of children (aged 8-12) with adults (aged 19-26). We found adults had stronger functional connectivity strength than children between bilateral inferior frontal gyri and left inferior parietal lobule in the rhyming task, between middle frontal gyrus and angular gyrus, and within occipital areas in the meaning task. Meanwhile, adults but not children manifested between-task differences in these properties. In contrast, children had stronger functional connectivity strength or nodal degree in Heschl's gyrus, superior temporal gyrus, and subcortical areas. Our findings indicated spoken word processing development is characterized by increased functional specialization, relying on the dorsal and ventral pathways for phonological and semantic processing respectively.
To assess the evidence for pediatric sialolithiasis, including its demographic characteristics, diagnosis, and demonstrate the shift in its treatment paradigm.
A systematic review of sources from the Medline and Embase databases was conducted from inception to Dec 4, 2020. Two researchers independently extracted data and assessed quality.
Patients under the age of 18 with sialolithiasis were included.
Study design, cohort size, age, sex, symptoms, stone characteristics, diagnostic modality and intervention were collected data points.
Forty-one studies with 243 patients were included in the review, of which 40 were case reports or series. Most stones were found in the submandibular gland (n=210, 85.4%) and were single stones (n=101, 71.1%). Average stone size was 7.7mm. The most common diagnostic imaging modality used was ultrasound (n=73, 47.4%), shifting from plain radiograph which was favoured in earlier years. Similarly, open gland excision was historically preferred, but since 2000, sialoendoscopy comprised 40.5% of all treatment modalities and continues to increase in prevalence, up to 52.1% by 2020. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy was associated with the highest complication rate of 54.2%.

However, the degree to which ACE and its subtypes contribute to adulthood sleep problems remains unknown. For this systematic review and meta-analysis, PubMed, Embase, Web of Sciences, Cochrane library, and CNKI (Chinese) were searched from inception to 1 December 2021. Cohort studies that examined the association between ACEs (aged 80%), 1.09 (95% CI 0.99-1.19, I2 = 0%, n = 2) for neglect, and 1.21 (95% CI 1.14-1.30, I2 = 73.6%, n = 3) for family dysfunction. Individuals with multiple ACEs were associated with a higher magnitude of the risk for sleep problems (OR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.18-1.49, I2 = 87.3%, n = 3). In conclusion, the magnitude of the risk for sleep problems was similar across ACE subtypes except for childhood neglect. ACE may have cumulative detrime ntal effects on sleep health. More longitudinal evidence regarding ACE-sleep relationships, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is needed. Furthermore, more policy efforts and evidence-based preventions are warranted to address ACEs among children.The introduction of additives has revolutionized super/subcritical fluid chromatography (SFC) by expanding the range of compounds that could be analyzed by the technique. From being considered a mere extension of gas chromatography, incorporation of a modifier, and subsequently an additive has made SFC a workhorse for chiral separations. Additives are by far the smallest component of the SFC mobile phase but can result in changing the polarity and acidity of the mobile phase, suppression of ionization, deactivation of the stationary phase, and act as an ion pairing agent. A wide variety of compounds have been tested as additives including but not limited to diethylamine, trifluoroacetic acid, ammonium acetate, and water. This review summarizes the different role played by additives in the SFC mobile phase. Further this work aims to help the reader by critically evaluating different additives used in enantiomeric separations with packed column SFC.
