The paper intends to analyze the main parameters that significantly influence the position estimates achieved by a Short Baseline (SBL) system. Specifically, the results of this analysis are presented for a proprietary localization system constituted by a surface platform equipped with four acoustic transducers used for the localization of an underwater target. The simulator here presented has the purpose of simulating the hardware system and modifying some of its design parameters, such as the base-line length and the errors on the GPS and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) units, in order to understand which parameters have to modify for improving the accuracy of the entire positioning system. It is shown that statistical analysis techniques can be of help in determining the best values of these parameters that permit to improve the performance of a real hardware system.The increase in molecular tools for the genetic engineering of insect pests and disease vectors, such as Anopheles mosquitoes that transmit malaria, has led to an unprecedented investigation of the genomic landscape of these organisms. The understanding of genome variability in wild mosquito populations is of primary importance for vector control strategies. This is particularly the case for gene drive systems, which look to introduce genetic traits into a population by targeting specific genomic regions. Gene drive targets with functional or structural constraints are highly desirable as they are less likely to tolerate mutations that prevent targeting by the gene drive and consequent failure of the technology. To understand the bond-slip relationship at FRP-to-brick interfaces under dynamic loading, the influences of the dynamic enhancement of material performance on the bond-slip curve were studied. Single-lap shear tests under two different loading rates were performed, and the slip distribution curves at different loading stages were fitted to derive the bond-slip relationship. Then a numerical model considering the strain rate effects on materials was built and verified with test results. Further, the influences of brick strength, FRP stiffness and slip rate on the bond-slip relationship were investigated numerically. The research results show that FRP stiffness mainly influences the shape of the bond-slip curve, while brick strength mainly influences the amplitude of the bond-slip curve. The variations of the bond-slip relationship under dynamic loading, i.e., under different slip rates, are mainly caused by the dynamic enhancement of brick strength, and also by the dynamic enhancement of FRP stiffness, especially within a specific slip rate range. The proposed empirical formula considering dynamic FRP stiffness and dynamic brick strength can be used to predict the bond-slip relationship at the FRP-to-brick interface under dynamic loading.The global research and development of mRNA vaccines have been prodigious over the past decade, and the work in this field has been stimulated by the urgent need for rapid development of vaccines in response to an emergent disease such as the current COVID-19 pandemic.
