A discussion of the relationships between attribution of responsibility, entirely external and mostly inscribed in the DABDA categories of ‛anger' and ‛acceptance', is presented, with further considerations about mourning and the need to improve specific psychological support in this field of environmental disaster. © 2019 The Author(s).Carrier-based sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques, such as phase disposoed PWM(PD-PWM) and phase shifted PWM (PS-PWM), are widely applied to control the modular multilevel cascaded converters (MMCC) having full H-bridge as sub-modules. This paper evaluates these PWM techniques when controlling a variant of the H-bridge MMCC, i.e. the MMCC five-level flying capacitor converter as sub-modules. This MMCC poses an extra challenge to PWM schemes; namely maintaining two inner floating capacitor voltage balancing. Two novel PWM techniques known as the swapped carrier PWM techniques are introduced for the control of this converter. The paper compares them with the two conventional ones using a performance metrics composed of voltage waveform performance, capability in natural flying capacitor voltage balancing, converter power loss, and switch utilisation. Monastrol The results show that the proposed new PWM schemes outperform both conventional methods in both switching and conduction power losses and achieve similar performance like the PS-PWM under the three other metrics. © 2019 The Authors. In the preparation of polymer-based functional materials, it is often difficult to express the desired function using a single substance. Thus, multiple materials are often combined to achieve a desired function using methods such as the addition of a filler or lamination. However, when materials are mixed using a filler, the transparency of the polymer decreases. Therefore, a prediction indicator for transparency is needed. In this study, we focused on using the Hansen solubility parameter (HSP) as a predictor of transparency. The value of δ d , which is the dispersion force term of the solubility parameter, is considered to be related to the refractive index of the solvent. Silica particles were selected as model particles, and the HSP value was determined. We examined the possibility of evaluating the transparency in a solvent containing silica particles based on the HSP value, and our results indicated that a smaller difference in δ d between the particles and solvent corresponded with a higher transparency. The HSP value could be used as an index for evaluation of the dispersibility and solubility of the polymer. By using HSP theory in the material design of composite materials, it is thus considered possible to use the same index to simultaneously evaluate the dispersibility evaluation and predict the transparency of the filler. © 2019 The Author(s).Increased pollution and degradation of water resources and their associated ecosystems has stimulated the development of tools and methodologies to characterize, estimate, predict, and reverse the environmental impact of anthropic effects on water bodies. The Secondary Water Quality Standards (NSCA) adopted in Chile have incorporated the use of bioindicators complementary to physicochemical analyses, in order to determine the ecological condition of lotic and lentic environments. Our research used the "Lake Biotic Index" (LBI) to establish the ecological condition of Lake Rupanco using benthic macroinvertebrates. The results indicated an Oligo-Eubiotic condition for this lake given the high concentration of oxygen and low organic matter content in sediments, in addition to low biogenic potential and good taxa preservation in both the autumn and spring surveys. Features of the ecological condition obtained through the application of the LBI (benthic subsystem) conform to the results of physicochemical and microalgae analyses undertaken previously in Lake Rupanco (pelagic subsystem). Based on these results, we support application of the LBI index as a complementary tool for the integrated management of lentic ecosystems. © 2019 The Author(s).The main objective of this research is to explore the influence of trace additions of titanium on grain characteristics (morphology and size), conductivity, and mechanical properties of copper-silicon-titanium alloys. The alloys compositions were designed using response surface optimal design (RSOD). The designed alloy compositions were melted, cast, and subjected to normalizing heat treatment at 900 °C for 0.5 hr. The grain characteristics and the elemental constituents of the produced alloys were analyzed using an optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The average grain size and distribution were also determined. The properties investigated were percentage elongation, tensile strength, hardness, electrical conductivity, and density. The results were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA) to obtain the significance of titanium content on the tested properties and to generate statistical model equations for future applications. The experimental results were optimized to ascertain the optimal alloy composition and properties. The OM and SEM results revealed a decrease in the average grain size of the parent alloy (Cu-3Si) from ≈10.1 μm to ≈4.4 μm and change in grain morphology after adding titanium, leading to improvement of properties. The results were confirmed to be statistically significant. The optimization results revealed Cu-3Si-0.47wt%Ti as the optimal alloy composition. © 2019 The Author(s).Cellulosomes are synthesized by anaerobic bacteria and fungi to degrade lignocellulose via synergistic action of multiple enzymes fused to a protein scaffold. Through templating key protein domains (cohesin and dockerin), designer cellulosomes have been engineered from bacterial motifs to alter the activity, stability, and degradation efficiency of enzyme complexes. Recently a parts list for fungal cellulosomes from the anaerobic fungi (Neocallimastigomycota) was determined, which revealed sequence divergent fungal cohesin, dockerin, and scaffoldin domains that could be used to expand the available toolbox to synthesize designer cellulosomes. In this work, multi-domain carbohydrate active enzymes (CAZymes) from 3 cellulosome-producing fungi were analyzed to inform the design of chimeric proteins for synthetic cellulosomes inspired by anaerobic fungi. In particular, Piromyces finnis was used as a structural template for chimeric carbohydrate active enzymes. Recombinant enzymes with retained properties were engineered by combining thermophilic glycosyl hydrolase domains from Thermotoga maritima with dockerin domains from Piromyces finnis.
