Modified BuShenYiQi formula (M-BYF) is derived from BuShenYiQi formula, used for the treatment of allergic asthma. The exact effect and mechanism of M-BYF on the improvement of asthma remain unclear.

We investigated the mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of M-BYF on allergic asthma.

The asthma model was established in female BALB/c mice that were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA). Mice in the treated groups were orally treated once a day with M-BYF (7, 14 and 28 g/kg/d) or dexamethasone before OVA challenge. Control and Model group received saline. Pathophysiological abnormalities and percentages of lung type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) and Th9 cells were measured. Expression levels of type 2 cytokines and transcription factors required for these cells function and differentiation were analysed. Expression of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-VPAC2 signalling pathway-related proteins, and percentages of VIP expressing (VIP
) cells and VPAC2, CD90 co-expressing (VPAC2
CD90
) cells were detected.

M-BYF alleviated airway hyperresponsiveness, inflammation, mucus hypersecretion and collagen deposition in asthmatic mice. M-BYF down-regulated percentages of ILC2s and Th9 cells with lower expression of GATA3, PU.1 and IRF4, reduced IL-5, IL-13, IL-9 and VIP production. However, causality between post-stroke apathy and cognitive impairment remains unclear. We assessed the course of apathy in relation to changes in cognitive functioning in stroke survivors. Using the Apathy Scale (AS) and cognitive tests on memory, processing speed and executive functioning at six- and 15 months post-stroke we tested for associations between (1) AS-scores and (change in) cognitive scores; (2) apathy course (persistent/incident/resolved) and cognitive change scores. Of 117 included participants, 29% had persistent apathy, 13% apathy resolving over time and 10% apathy emerging between 6-15 months post-stroke. Higher AS-scores were cross-sectionally and longitudinally associated with lower cognitive scores. Relations between apathy and cognitive change scores were ambiguous. These inconsistent relations between apathy and changes in cognition over time suggest that post-stroke apathy does not directly impact cognitive performance. Both these sequelae of stroke require separate attention.
This study aimed to investigate the concurrent validity of the block method as compared with the gold standard (Cobb's method). An additional aim was to examine the intra- and inter-rater reliability of expert and novice assessors using the block method.

In a cross-sectional study, we enrolled 62 participants with hyperkyphosis aged ≥10years, with hyperkyphosis defined as one or more blocks. The participants were stratified by age (<60years and ≥60years). To determine concurrent validity, and kyphosis was assessed in all the participants using the block method and Cobb's method. Finally, 15 participants were included in a reliability study. To determine intra- and inter-rater reliability, each participant was assessed twice, 7days apart, by one expert and one novice using the block method.

The concurrent validity of the block method and gold standard method showed moderate correlation (
=0.53,
<.001). However, after stratifying the participants by age (<60years and ≥60years), there was small to moderate correlation (
=0.42,
=.006, and
=0.64,
=.002, respectively). The intra- and inter-rater reliability of the expert and novice assessors was excellent (ICC
=0.82-0.97,
<.001).

The findings showed small correlation in those <60 and moderate correlation in those ≥60years, and reported excellent reliability. The block method can be used by novices with strong reliability. This method is a practical technique for early screening hyperkyphosis in the elderly.

The gene has 15 fusion partners, including the breakpoint cluster region (BCR) gene on chromosome 22. Of all the tests available, chromosome karyotype determination is the most important for the diagnosis of EMS. Here, we describe one case of a patient characterized by marked increase of white blood cells and thrombocytopenia and diagnosed as EMS with t(8;22)(p11;q11) by chromosome karyotype.Methods 28-year-old man was referred to our hospital. He had a onemonth history of intermittent coughing and a small amount of expectoration after catching a cold. As an outpatient, his complete blood count showed WBC was 130.04 × 109/L with 80.20% granulocytes.Hematologic investigations, bone marrow analysis and genomic DNA sequencing studies were performed.Results Despite additional chromosomal abnormalities,the patient progressed rapidly with a B blast cell clone in one month. After diagnosis inthree months, the patient underwent the haplo-identical BMT of his brother, followed up for three years, and had a high rate of survival.Conclusions Our report provides a definite conceptual framework for a better understanding of the characteristics of The 8p11 myeloproliferative syndrome [EMS].
Huoxin pill (HXP) is a commonly used TCM prescription for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. However, its mechanism in protecting against myocardial infarction (MI) remains unknown.

We performed a network pharmacology analysis to explore the bioactive ingredients, therapeutic effects, and mechanisms of HXP in protecting against MI.

HPLC was used to identify major bioactive compounds, and overlap with MI target genes were visualised. 10-Week old C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned as Sham-operated control, MI + Phosphate buffered saline (PBS), and MI + HXP (3 mg/mL and 9 mg/mL) treatment groups, received oral gavage administration once every two-days starting from 1-week prior to MI, and subsequently MI models were established for one-week before sacrifice.

AKT1, VEGFA, TNF and RELA were identified as core target proteins among eighty-five candidate bioactive compounds identified in HXP with overlapping MI-related genes. HXP protection against MI was mainly via regulation of inflammatory pathways, nal basis for the clinical application of HXP in treating patients with angina or myocardial ischaemia. Future research into the combination of surgical procedures or medications that restore blood flow together with HXP as supportive medication would be worthwhile.
The editorship of medical journals is a leadership role that can affect recognition and career advancement. We determine the gender representation of the editorial boards of oculoplastic surgery journals in comparison to the proportion of women in oculoplastics societies.

The gender composition of the American, European and Asia-Pacific societies of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery and the editorial boards of their respective society journals were determined with online searches in March 2021. Statistical tests for the equality of proportions were performed.

Excluding 44 individuals with missing gender data, the three combined oculoplastics societies comprised 1,230 distinct members, with 29% women. The editorial review boards of the three official society publications comprised 59 medical editors, 22% of which were women. There was no statistically significant difference in the proportion of women editors versus women OPRS members (
=.201) but the study is underpowered to detect a 7% difference.
