This study proposes a novel biologically motivated learning method for deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The combination of CNNs and backpropagation learning is the most powerful method in recent machine learning regimes. However, it requires a large amount of labeled data for training, and this requirement can occasionally become a barrier for real world applications. To address this problem and use unlabeled data, we introduce unsupervised competitive learning, which only requires forward propagating signals for CNNs. The method was evaluated on image discrimination tasks using the MNIST, CIFAR-10, and ImageNet datasets, and it achieved state-of-the-art performance with respect to other biologically motivated methods in the ImageNet benchmark. The results suggest that the method enables higher-level learning representations solely based on the forward propagating signals without the need for a backward error signal for training convolutional layers. The proposed method could be useful for a variety of poorly labeled data, for example, time series or medical data.In recent years, a lot of excellent multi-view clustering methods have been proposed. Because most of them need to fuse all views at one time, they are infeasible as the number of views increases over time. If the present multi-view clustering methods are employed directly to re-fuse all views at each time, it is too expensive to store all historical views. In this paper, we proposed an efficient incremental multi-view spectral clustering method with sparse and connected graph learning (SCGL). In our method, only one consensus similarity matrix is stored to represent the structural information of all historical views. Once the newly collected view is available, the consensus similarity matrix is reconstructed by learning from its previous version and the current new view. To further improve the incremental multi-view clustering performance, the sparse graph learning and the connected graph learning are integrated into our model, which can not only reduce the noises, but also preserve the correct connections within clusters. Experiments on several multi-view datasets demonstrate that our method is superior to traditional methods in clustering accuracy, and is more suitable to deal with the multi-view clustering with the number of views increasing over time.Norms prescribe how to make decisions in social situations and play a crucial role in sustaining cooperative relationships and coordinating collective action. However, following norms often requires restricting behavior, demanding to curtail selfishness, or suppressing personal goals. This raises the question why people adhere to norms. We review recent theories and empirical findings that aim at explaining why people follow norms even in private, when violations are difficult to detect and are not sanctioned. We discuss theories of norm internalization, social and self-image concerns, and social learning (i.e. preferences conditional on what others do/believe). Finally, we present two behavioral, incentivized tasks that can be used to elicit norms and measure the individual propensity to follow them.
The internet is an important source of travel health information. Individuals living with chronic illnesses consult patient organisation websites for illness-related information. We analysed the scope of online travel health information available to patients with pre-existing medical conditions.

A descriptive content analysis of patient organisation websites was conducted.

The Google® search engine was interrogated using search terms related to the principal chronic diseases from the Global Burden of Disease Study. Data relating to 41 travel health variables were extracted from each eligible website. An aggregate quality score was derived for each organisation based on the presence of specific website information. Visitor usage and search analytics for each organisation's website were also described.

We examined 145 official organisation websites relating to 10 major chronic illnesses. The largest number of websites was retrieved for patients with cancer (n = 36). Only 21 (16.5%) websites provided infavellers with chronic disease.
Chronic vulvar pain is a condition that affects many women during their lifetime, including women with Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).

To study the prevalence and possible etiologies of chronic vulvar pain among women living with FGM/C.

We conducted a retrospective review of consecutive medical files of 506 women who consulted our specialized clinic for women with FGM/C between April 1, 2010 and December 31, 2017. We collected sociodemographic and clinical data including information on the type of FGM/C and its complications. We focused on studying the prevalence, etiologies and characteristics of chronic vulvar pain.
