CONCLUSIONS Poor self-reported oral health was higher among people with diabetes compared to non-diabetes controls. Physicians and dentists should increase their awareness with their patients with diabetes, especially those with obesity, younger and with lower education. AIMS Analyse the association of depression with retirement in older adults with type 2 diabetes(T2D). METHODS Data from the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) was used to analyse 1100 T2D aged 51-74, employed or retired. Multilevel logistic models examined the relationships of health and socio-demographic characteristics with depression. RESULTS The proportion of females was significantly higher among those with depression. Around half of those aged between 51 and 64 were employed, and less than 5% among those aged between 65 and 74 years. Female, employment, more chronic diseases and not perceiving their health as healthy were associated with depression among those aged 51-64. Among women, the odds of being depressed was significantly higher among those employed than among those who had retired. Among men, being employed or retired was not significantly associated with depression. CONCLUSIONS Depression was associated to more limitations of daily living and chronic diseases, and worst perception of health. The majority of those with depression were women, and being retired seems to have a protective effect on women. BACKGROUND Clinical practice guidelines are developed by healthcare policy makers and disseminated to practitioners in order to minimize practice variations and to improve the quality of care. Problems arise when there is a sole reliance on passive dissemination strategies such as mailing or publishing the guidelines, as these approaches do not usually lead to the adoption. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore the perspectives of the health care professionals toward the Saudi National Diabetes Guidelines in terms of awareness, adherence and their preferred dissemination and implementation strategies of the guideline. METHOD A cross-sectional survey was conducted among physicians and nurses working in twenty primary health care centers in the city of Riyadh between February and March 2019. RESULTS Nearly half of the total 179 respondents reported that they were unaware of the guidelines (49.1%), and 92% of the remaining 91 participants who were aware of the guideline reported that they had first heard about it through their official mail. The mean scores ranked according to the most preferred methods for disseminating and implementing the diabetes guidelines were as follows via reminder systems 4.35±0.74, financial incentives 4.33±0.65, and audit and feedback 4.27±0.58. On the other hand, the least favorable strategies were traditional education 3.79±0.96 and the distribution of the guideline by mail 3.13±0.95. CONCLUSION The level of awareness of the diabetes guidelines among the primary health care professionals was suboptimal. This was more likely due to the Ministry of Health's reliance on passive implementation strategies. Remdesivir In order to have the guidelines translated into clinical practice, active and targeted implementation strategies such as reminder systems, audit and feedback must be considered by the Saudi health policy makers. Dry eyes may be caused by impairment in the tear production or excessive tear evaporation and are associated with photophobia, red eyes, vision impairment, local pain and pruritus. It has been described that patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) may have a higher prevalence of dry eyes than normal population. This is a case control study of 120 patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and 120 paired controls aiming to compare their prevalence of dry eyes (by the Schirmer test) and its severity (measured by OSDI or Ocular Surface Disease Index) as well as their association with diseases' clinical variables. We found that 38.3% of DM patients had dry eyes, a prevalence that was higher than controls (p = 0.02). At univariate analysis, they were found to be more common in older individuals (p = 0.001) with type 2 diabetes (p = 0.001) and in those using metformin (p = 0.001). A multivariate linear regression showed that metformin use was the only independent variable associated with dry eyes. When patients with dry eyes with and without DM were compared, no differences in the symptom's intensity were found. Asian Americans (AA) are disproportionately affected by diabetes (DM) and its complications than non-Hispanic whites (whites). We examined white-AA disparities in glycemic, cholesterol and blood pressure control, known as 'ABCs of DM', and evaluated if acculturation plays a role in DM control in AA with DM. Using data from NHANES 2011-2016, we found AA patients were significantly less likely to meet glycemic, cholesterol and the collective 'ABCs' goals than their white counterparts. Acculturation was positively associated with glycemic goal achievement in AA patients. This study identified disparities and pointed to strategies related to acculturation to improve DM control for AA. Median age at bladder cancer (BC) diagnosis is older than for other major tumours. Age should not determine treatment, and patients should be fully involved in decisions. Patients should be screened with Mini-Cog™ for cognitive impairment and the G8 to ascertain need for comprehensive geriatric assessment. In non-muscle invasive disease, older adult patients should have standard therapy. Age does not contraindicate intravesical therapy. Independent of age and fitness, patients with muscle-invasive BC should have at least cross-sectional imaging. Data suggest extensive undertreatment in older adult patients, leading to poor outcomes. Standard treatment for a fit patient differs between countries. Radical cystectomy and trimodality therapy are first-line options. Radical cystectomy patients should be referred to an experienced centre and prehabilitation is mandatory. Older adult patients should be considered for neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy, according to guidelines. In urinary diversion, avoiding bowel surgery for reconstruction of the lower urinary tract significantly reduces complications. If a patient is unfit for or refuses standard treatment, RT alone, or TURBT in selected cases should be considered. In metastatic BC, older adult patients should receive standard systemic therapy, depending on fitness for cisplatin and prognosis. Efficacy and tolerability of immunotherapy (IO) appears similar to younger patients. Second line IO is standard in platinum pre-treated patients, with benefit and tolerability in the older adult similar to younger patients. The toxicity profile seems to favour IO in the older adult but more data are needed. Patients progressing on IO may respond to further systemic treatment. In metastatic disease, palliative care should begin early. Dipyrone is an analgesic pro-drug used clinically to control moderate pain with a high analgesic efficacy and low toxicity. Dipyrone is hydrolyzed to 4-methylaminoantipyrine (4-MAA), which is metabolized to 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA). Here, were investigate the involvement of peripheral cannabinoid CB2 and opioid receptor activation in the local antihyperalgesic effect of dipyrone and 4-MAA. The inflammatory agent, carrageenan was administered to the hindpaw of male Wistar rats, and the mechanical nociceptive threshold was quantified by electronic von Frey test. Dipyrone or 4-MAA were locally administered 2.5 h after carrageenan. Following dipyrone injection, hindpaw tissue was harvested and its hydrolysis to 4-MAA was analyzed by mass spectrometry (MS). The selective CB2 receptor antagonist (AM630), naloxone (a non-selective opioid receptor antagonist), nor-BNI (a selective kappa-opioid receptor), CTOP (a selective mu-opioid receptor), or naltrindole (a selective delta-opioid receptor) was administered 30 min prior to 4-MAA. The results demonstrate that carrageenan-induced mechanical hyperalgesia was inhibited by dipyrone or 4-MAA in a dose-dependent manner. Dipyrone administered to the hindpaw was completely hydrolyzed to 4-MAA. The antihyperalgesic effect of 4-MAA was completely reversed by AM630, naloxone and nor-BNI, but not by CTOP or naltrindole. These data suggest that the local analgesic effect of dipyrone is mediated by its hydrolyzed bioactive form, 4-MAA and, at least in part, depends on CB2 receptor and kappa-opioid receptor activation. In conclusion, the analgesic effect of dipyrone may involve a possible interaction between the cannabinoid and opioid system in peripheral tissue. V.Ovarian carcinoma (OC) begins in the ovaries and remains a highly lethal malignancy. Despite great efforts have been made to fight against OC, there still remain limited therapeutic options owing to chemotherapy drug resistance and serious side effects. Osthole is a derivative of coumarin and extracted from Cnidium monnieri (L.) Cusson, which has been drawn more attention due to its high biological activity in various disease. However, the underlying mechanism of osthole in OC is still unclear. In this study, we aim to evaluate the mechanism of osthole against OC cells. Methodologically, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and LIVE/DEAD™ Cell Imaging experiments were employed to assess cell viability. 2',7'-Dichlorofluorescin diacetate (DCFH-DA) staining, flow cytometry, Hoechst staining, JC-1 staining assay and western blotting were performed to study apoptosis. Transmission electron microscopy, western blotting and monodansyl cadaverine (MDC) staining assay were used to study autophagy. Western blotting and microscopy image were employed to determine pyroptosis. Our results demonstrated that osthole could significantly suppress OC cells growth in a dose-dependent manner. We further proved that osthole could inhibit OC cells growth by mitochondria-mediated apoptosis. Meanwhile, we also discovered that osthole could trigger cell autophagy and lead to cell death. Furthermore, our study revealed that osthole could lead to pyroptosis through inducing the cleavage of gasdermin E (c-GSDME) level. Taken together, Osthole could significantly suppress the growth of OC cells and induce OC cells death via apoptosis, pyroptosis and autophagy, which is a promising new drug for the treatment of OC. The beadlet anemone Actinia equina (L.) (Cnidaria Anthozoa Actiniaria Actiniidae) is one of the most familiar organisms of the North European intertidal zone. Once considered a single, morphologically variable species across northern Europe, it is now recognised as one member of a variable species complex. Previous studies of distribution, aggression, allozymes and mitochondrial DNA suggest that the diversity in form and colour within A. equina may hide still unrecognised species diversity. To empower further study of A. equina population genetics and systematics, we sequenced (PacBio Sequel) the genome of a single A. equina individual to produce a high-quality genome assembly (contig N50 = 492,607 bp, 1485 contigs, number of protein coding genes = 47,671, 97% BUSCO completeness). There is debate as to whether A. equina reproduces solely asexually, since no reliable, consistent evidence of sexual reproduction has been found. To gain further insight, we examined the genome for evidence of a 'meiotic toolkit' - genes believed to be found consistently in sexually reproducing organisms - and demonstrate that the A.
