Background Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) is an alternative strategy for His bundle pacing (HBP). This study aimed to analyze the long-term performance of LBBP and the potential factors affecting long-term cardiac function. Methods Patients with LBBP were continuously enrolled from January 2018 to August 2020. Pacing parameters, electrocardiogram (ECG), and echocardiography were collected. The anatomic position of LBBP leads was described by echocardiographic and fluoroscopic parameters. Results A total of 91 patients with a median follow-up of 18 months were enrolled. Most patients maintained stable pacing parameters during follow-up. Patients with tricuspid valve regurgitation (TVR) deterioration had longer follow-up duration (20.5 vs. 15.0 months, p = 0.01) and shorter Lead-TVA-dist (18.6 vs. 21.6 mm, p = 0.04) than those without TVR deterioration. Conclusion Patients with LBBP generally remained stable in pacing performance, anatomic lead positions, and cardiac function in long-term follow-up. Baseline LVEF, ∆ Paced QRSd, and corrected longit-dist might be associated with potential LVEF decrease, which required further confirmation.Heavy alcohol consumption is a known risk factor for various forms of dementia and the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this work, we investigated how intragastric alcohol feeding may alter the liver-to-brain axis to induce and/or promote AD pathology. Four weeks of intragastric alcohol feeding to mice, which causes significant fatty liver (steatosis) and liver injury, caused no changes in AD pathology markers in the brain [amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin], except for a decrease in microglial cell number in the cortex of the brain. Interestingly, the decline in microglial numbers correlated with serum alanine transaminase (ALT) levels, suggesting a potential link between liver injury and microglial loss in the brain. In particular, autonomic dysreflexia (AD; paroxysmal hypertension and concurrent bradycardia in response to sensory stimuli below the level of injury) is common in autonomically-complete injuries at or above T6. AD is currently defined as a >20 mmHg increase in systolic arterial pressure (SAP) from baseline, without heart rate (HR) criteria. Urodynamics testing (UDS) is performed routinely after SCI to monitor urological sequelae, often provoking AD. We, therefore, aimed to assess the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular responses to UDS and their association with autonomic injury in individuals with chronic (>1 year) SCI. Following blood draw (plasma norepinephrine [NE]), continuous SAP, HR, and middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (MCAv) were recorded at baseline (10-minute supine), during standard clinical UDS, and recovery (10-minute supine) (n = 22, age 41.1 ± 2 years, 15 male). Low frequency variability in systolic arterial pressure (LF SAP; a marker of sympathetic modulation of blood pressure) and cerebral resistance were determined. High-level injury (≥T6) with blunted/absent LF SAP ( 0.05). Cerebrovascular resistance index was increased during UDS in autonomically-complete injuries compared to baseline (p less then 0.001) and recovery (p less then 0.001) reflecting intact cerebral autoregulation. Risk for both atrial and ventricular arrhythmia increased during UDS compared to baseline (p less then 0.05), particularly in autonomically-complete injuries (p less then 0.05). UDS is recommended yearly in chronic SCI but is associated with profound AD and an increased risk of arrhythmia, highlighting the need for continued monitoring during UDS. Our data also highlight the need for HR criteria in the definition of AD and the need for quantitative consideration of autonomic function after SCI.The application of machine learning algorithms in studying injury assessment methods based on data analysis has recently provided a new research insight for sports injury prevention. Herein, we present a comprehensive circRNA atlas of the oviduct among high- and low-fecundity goats in the follicular phase (FH vs. FL), luteal phase (LH vs. LL), and estrus cycle (FH vs. LH; FL vs. LL) to unravel their potential regulatory mechanisms in improving kidding number. We generated RNA sequencing data, and identified 4,078 circRNAs from twenty sampled Yunshang black goats. Many of these circRNAs are exon-derived and differentially expressed between each comparison group. Subsequently, eight differentially expressed (DE) circRNAs were validated by RT‒qPCR, which was consistent with the RNA-seq data. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses suggested that numerous host genes of DE circRNAs were involved in the hormone secretion, gamete production, fertilization, and embryo development processes. The competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) interaction network analysis revealed that 2,673 circRNA-miRNA-mRNA axes (including 15 DE circRNAs, 14 miRNAs, and 1,699 mRNAs) were formed, and several target genes derived from the ceRNA network were associated with oviduct functions and reproduction, including SMAD1, BMPR1B, IGF1, REV1, and BMP2K. Furthermore, miR-15a-5p, miR-181b-5p, miR-23b-5p, miR-204-3p, and miR-145-5p might play important roles in reproduction. Finally, a novel circRNA, circIQCG, was identified as potentially involved in embryo development. Overall, our study provides a resource of circRNAs to understand the oviductal function and its connection to prolificacy trait of goats in the differentiation estrus cycle.The brown planthopper (BPH) Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) (Hemiptera Delphacidae) is one of the most destructive rice pests in Asia. The application of insect-resistant rice cultivars is currently one of the principal means of controlling BPH. Understanding the physiological response mechanisms of BPH feeding on insect-resistant rice is the key for maintaining rice yield. Here, we measured the ecological fitness and analyzed the whole-body transcriptome and metabolome of BPH reared on susceptible cultivar Taichung Native 1 (TN1) and resistant cultivar Rathu Heenati (RH). Our results showed that RH significantly decreased the survival rate, female adult weight, honeydew secretion, the number of eggs laid per female and fat content of BPH. We identified 333 upregulated and 486 downregulated genes in BPH feeding on RH. These genes were mainly involved in energy metabolism, amino acid metabolism, hormone synthesis and vitamin metabolism pathways. We also detected 145 differentially accumulated metabolites in BPH reared on RH plants compared to BPH reared on TN1 plants, including multiple carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, and some nucleosides. Combined analyses of transcriptome and metabolome showed that five pathways, including starch, sucrose, and galactose metabolism, were altered. The network for these pathways was subsequently visualized. Our results provide insights into the mechanisms of metabolite accumulation in BPH feeding on the RH rice variety. The results could help us better understand how insect-resistant rice cultivars combat BPH infestation, which is important for the comprehensive management of BPH.Adaptation to microgravity causes astronauts to experience sensorimotor disturbances during return to Earth leading to functional difficulties. Recently, the Field Test (FT) study involving an incrementally demanding sensorimotor functional test battery has allowed for an unprecedented view into early decrements and recovery from multiple tests conducted on the landing day following 6-months International Space Station missions. Although the protocol was challenging and temporarily increased motion sickness symptoms, there were anecdotal reports that performing these tasks within the first few hours of landing accelerated their recovery. Therefore, results from computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) following return to Houston were used to compare recovery between crewmembers that participated in FT (n = 18) with those that did not (controls, n = 11). While there were significant decrements in postural performance for both groups, some FT participants tended to perform closer to their preflight baseline in the most challenging condition of the CDP sensitive to vestibular function-eyes closed, unstable support and head movements. However, the distribution of difference scores appeared bimodal with other FT participants in the lower range of performance. We attribute these observations to the manner in which the field tests were implemented-some benefitted by encouraging early movement to drive adaptation when performed in a constrained incremental fashion; however, movements above aversive thresholds may have impaired adaptation in others. Challenging the sensorimotor system with increasingly provocative movements performed as close to landing as possible, as long as within individual thresholds, could be a useful intervention to accelerate astronaut's sensorimotor readaptation that deserves further study.
