The present study aimed to assess corocoro grunt use as bioindicator of Hg contamination in coastal marine systems by testing environmental (seasons) and biological effects (sexual maturity, size and weight) on THg accumulation and assessing human health risk. Fish was captured in winter and summer seasons at Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Southeast Brazil. Adult O. ruber showed significantly higher THg than juveniles, and THg concentrations were positively correlated to fish length and weight. Fish THg concentrations did not differ between seasons and were below the accepted limit for human consumption. Human exposure risk by fish consumption was 0.31 μg MeHg kg-1 week-1 and the hazard quotient was 0.44 (0.11-1.84). Our results confirm the applied use of O. ruber as sentinel species for Hg contamination monitoring and highlight concern for its consumption, especially for local fishermen populations that highly consume this fish and may be more susceptible to Hg adverse effects. The occurrence, ecological risk, and source of heavy metals in the Liaohe River Protected Area from the watershed of the Bohai Sea were investigated. The maximum concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ni, Cd, Cr, Pb, and As in water were 8.50, 25.22, 3.80, 0.14, 1.76, 8.52, and 3.19 μg/L, respectively. The maximum concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ni, Cd, Cr, Pb, and As in sediment were 27.0, 109, 33.2, 0.56, 318, 43.7, and 29.3 mg/kg, respectively. The percentages of soil samples with observed concentrations above background values were 31.25%, 31.25%, 25%, 28.13%, 56.25%, 34.38%, and 37.5% for Cu, Cr, Zn, Ni, Cd, Pb, and As, respectively. Igeo suggested that sediments were polluted with Cd, Pb, As, Cr, and Zn, whereas soils were contaminated with all seven metals. Potential ecological risk index values exhibited that sites L25 and L12 were classified as moderately polluted in sediment and soil, respectively.Environmental pollution from plastic bags is a significant issue in the global environment. Plastic bags can be transferred by the wind and ocean currents everywhere in the three dimensions and be fragmented into small particles, termed film-shaped microplastics. The purpose of this study is to provide insights on the degradation of beached plastic bags. Monitoring and sampling were performed to determine plastic bag fragmentation and the possible mechanisms. On selected samples, various spectroscopic techniques and microscopy were used. Before the imposition of the "green" plastic bag fee in Greece, field monitoring suggested that the majority of the coastal plastic bags were fragmented whereas after the "green" fee, less fragmented bags were observed. Evidence of three degradation mechanisms were observed in this study. For oxodegradable plastic bags, degradation takes place for the starch additives and the polymer part stays in the environment as microplastic particles. For thin light density polyethylene plastic bags, mechanical fragmentation takes place in the environment creating microplastics before significant chemical alterations in functional groups were observed and once chemical alteration (oxidation) is observed, fragmentation (of HC or CC bonds) is also taking place. Thus, regulating thin plastic bags usage removes problems related to plastic bags but also to film-shaped microplastics. We assessed sex differences in amyloid- and tau-PET retention in 119 amyloid positive patients with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia. Patients underwent 3T-MRI, 11C-PIB amyloid-PET and 18F-Flortaucipir tau-PET. Linear ordinary least squares regression models tested sex differences in Flortaucipir-PET SUVR in a summary temporal region of interest as well as global PIB-PET. No sex differences were observed in demographics, Clinical Dementia Rating Sum of Boxes (CDR-SoB), Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE), raw episodic memory scores, or cortical thickness. Females had higher global PIB SUVR (ηp²=.043, p=.025) and temporal Flortaucipir SUVR (ηp²=.070, p=.004), adjusting for age and CDR-SoB. Sex differences in temporal Flortaucipir-PET remained significant when controlling additionally for PIB SUVR and APOE4 status (ηp²=.055, p=.013), or when using partial volume-corrected data. No sex differences were present in areas of known Flortaucipir off-target binding. Overall, females demonstrated greater AD regional tau-PET burden than males despite clinical comparability. Further characterization of sex differences will provide insight into AD pathogenesis and support development of personalized therapeutic strategies. Our study investigated the feasibility and clinical relevance of brain age prediction using axial T2-weighted images (T2-WIs) with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm. The CNN model was trained by 1,530 scans in our institution. The performance was evaluated by the mean absolute error (MAE) between the predicted brain age and the chronological age based on an internal test set (n=270) and an external test set (n=560). BX471 ic50 The ensemble CNN model showed an MAE of 4.22 years in the internal test set and 9.96 years in the external test set. Participants with grade 2-3 white matter hyperintensity (WMH) showed a higher corrected predicted age difference (PAD) than grade 0 WMH (posthoc p less then 0.001). Participants diagnosed with diabetes mellitus also had a higher corrected PAD than those without diabetes (adjusted p=0.048), although it showed no significant differences according to the diagnosis of hypertension or dyslipidemia. We suggest that routine clinical T2-WIs are feasible to predict brain age, and it might be clinically relevant according to the WMH grade and the presence of diabetes mellitus. We investigated the relations among theory of mind (ToM), mental state talk, and discourse comprehension. Specifically, we examined the frequency of mental state talk in children's oral recall of narrative texts and informational texts as well as relations among ToM, mental state talk (inclusion of mental state words in the recall of narrative and informational texts), and narrative and informational text comprehension. Results from children in Grade 4 (N = 132; Mage = 10.39 years) revealed that a greater number of mental state talk instances appeared in children's recall of narrative texts than in their recall of informational texts, but the mean number also differed across texts within a genre. ToM skill predicted the extent of mental state talk in narrative texts and informational texts, and the relation was stronger for narrative texts than for informational texts, after accounting for vocabulary, grammatical knowledge, working memory, and attentional control. Mental state talk in narrative texts was extremely strongly related to narrative comprehension, whereas mental state talk in informational texts was weakly related to informational text comprehension. Results suggest that ToM skill relates to mental state talk in the recall of texts, and both ToM and mental state talk play greater roles in comprehension of narrative texts than in comprehension of informational texts.
The estimation of brain volumetric measurements based on Synthetic MRI (SyMRI) is easy and fast, however, the consistency of brain volumetric and morphologic measurements based on SyMRI and 3D T1WI should be further addressed. The current study evaluated the impact of spatial resolution on brain volumetric and morphologic measurements using SyMRI, and test whether the brain measurements derived from SyMRI were consistent with those resulted from 3D T1WI.

Brain volumetric and fractal analysis were applied to thirty healthy subjects, each underwent four SyMRI acquisitions with different spatial resolutions (1 × 1 × 2 mm, 1 × 1x3mm, 1 × 1 × 4 mm, 2 × 2 × 2 mm) and a 3D T1WI (1 × 1 × 1 mm isotropic). The consistency of the SyMRI measurements was tested using one-way non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test and post hoc Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner test. The association between SyMRI and 3D T1WI derived measurements was evaluated using linear regression models.

Our results demonstrated that both in- and through-plane resolutions show an impact on brain volumetric measurements, while brain parenchymal volume showed high consistency across the SyMRI acquisitions, and high association with the measurements from 3D T1WI. In addition, SyMRI with 1 × 1 × 4 mm resolution showed the strongest association with 3D T1WI compared to other SyMRI acquisitions in both volumetric and fractal analyses. Moreover, substantial differences were found in fractal dimension of both gray and white matter between the SyMRI and 3D T1WI tissue segmentations.

Our results suggested that the measurements from SyMRI with relatively higher in-plane and lower through-plane resolution (1 × 1 × 4 mm) are much closer to 3D T1WI.

CTDI
-to-fetal-dose coefficients from Monte Carlo simulations are useful for fetal dose evaluations, but the available data is limited to the fetus being completely inside the abdominopelvic scan range. Whereas in a chest examination, the fetus is completely outside the scan range. In an abdominal examination, the fetus after 16 gestational weeks is partly in the scan region, and an earlier fetus is completely outside of it. This work proposes a practical approach to evaluate fetal dose for pregnant patients undergoing body CT examinations, without using Monte Carlo simulation.

The proposed method was based on the z-axis dose profile computed for a CT examination, considering CTDI
, scan range, mA, and maternal WED (water equivalent diameter) at the fetus centroid. Fetal average dose was calculated over the fetus z-axis coverage. For validation, we considered a reference dataset of 24 pregnant patients, each underwent two abdominopelvic examinations (fixed mA, tube current modulation). WED was 30.1 ± 3.e and location, and whether fetus is completely inside, partly inside, or outside scan ranges.
Profile-based fetal dose calculations can be performed for patients in body CT, considering maternal size, fetus size and location, and whether fetus is completely inside, partly inside, or outside scan ranges.
To investigate the differences of pathological, radiological, and prognostic features between cellular schwannoma (CS) and non-cellular schwannoma (NCS).

CT and MRI images of 24 patients with CSs and 30 patients with NCSs were reviewed retrospectively. Clinico-pathological characteristics of CSs and NCSs and tumor radiological features including location, shape, size, border, cystic-solid components, hemorrhage, calcification, bone remodeling, pattern of CT/MRI precontrast scan, degree of enhancement, target sign, and tumor vessels were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed with Chi square or Fisher's exact test, independent sample t test, and logistic regression analysis to compare the differences between CSs and NCSs.

Four CSs showed mitotic activity, which was not found in the NCS group (P = 0.034). The CS group showed higher MIB-1 index than that in the NCS group (P = 0.002). Two patients with CS presented with tumor recurrence. Compared to NCSs, CSs were often located in spinal area (P = 0.
