The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of hydrogen peroxide concentration on the bleaching efficacy and penetration through the tooth structure.
One hundred enamel/dentin specimens with cylindrical shape were obtained from bovine incisors. The surfaces were polished and the size standardized. They were divided into five groups (
= 20), following the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the bleaching gels 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40% (w/w). The specimens were placed over artificial pulpal chambers containing acetate buffer solution and bleached for 30 minutes (three applications of 10 minutes each). Aliquots of the acetate solution were collected, and the peroxide concentration was measured by an analytic spectrophotometer. link2 The color of the samples was analyzed using a colorimetric spectrophotometer at the baseline and 7 days after the bleaching procedure. The color difference was calculated using the ∆

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the economic impact and the dental practice changes associated with the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19).
This was a cross-sectional survey conducted at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic (May 2020). The study sample was derived from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Alumni network, which included the graduating classes between 1975 and 2015. Active dental practitioners were surveyed regarding changes to their current operations and protective safety measures through a 22 closed-ended questionnaire-based survey.
The response rate was 17%. Nearly 70.92% of respondents laid off at least one staff member during the COVID-19 pandemic, 51.80% expressed fear of permanent closure, and 79.43% applied for a small business administration loan. There were no significant associations between the amount of time in practice and the need to lay off staff members, the fear of going out of business, or the rates of application for the small business administrage devices might be useful in the private practice setting. However, financially strained practitioners should recognize that these devices have not currently been proven to be effective against the COVID-19 virus. The aim of the present split-mouth prospective study was to evaluate clinically and histologically the bone regeneration obtained following preprosthetic vertical bone augmentation performed with titanium-reinforced dense polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (d-PM) compared to titanium mesh (TM).
Healthy adult patients presenting with bilateral partial edentulism in the posterior mandible requiring vertical ridge augmentation for implant placement purposes were consecutively included. One side of the mandible was randomly assigned to the use of d-PM, the other to TM. The graft consisted in a mixture of autogenous bone harvested nearby the surgical site and deproteinized bovine bone mineral particles in a 11 ratio. On each side during bone augmentation surgery, a 2-mm diameter mini-implant was inserted for clinical and histological analyses. Both d-PM and TM can be used to augment atrophic localized ridges vertically. The outcome of bone regeneration seems to be impaired by exposure of the device. OSMF has poor morbidity in terms of oral function as well as general health due to loss of oral function, such as eating. In severe conditions, it can cause dysphagia and hearing loss. Various clinicians have tried the different treatment modalities to reverse the disease process, but with limited success and that too in alleviating the associated symptoms.

The aim of this study is to investigate and iteratively refine the acceptability and usability of a web-based exercise intervention (ExerciseGuide) for men with metastatic prostate cancer and determine how well individuals can replicate the video-based exercise prescription.
A laboratory-based multi-methods design was used, incorporating questionnaires, think-aloud tests, interviews, and movement screening among 11 men aged 63 to 82 years with metastatic prostate cancer. Overall, 9 participants were undergoing androgen deprivation therapy, and 2 were completing chemotherapy. Data were collected in two waves, with changes made for quality improvement after participant 5.
The intervention's usability score was deemed moderate overall but improved after modifications (from 60, SD 2.9 to 69.6, SD 2.2 out of 100). Oexpert support through telehealth. The resistance training algorithms were shown to provide appropriate content safely, and the users could replicate the exercise technique unaided to a satisfactory level. This study has optimized the ExerciseGuide intervention for further investigation in this population.

The widespread use of computed tomography (CT) in COVID-19 may cause adverse biological effects. Many recommend to minimize radiation dose while maintaining diagnostic quality. This study was designed to evaluate the difference between findings of COVID-19 pneumonia on standard and low-dose protocols to provide data on the utility of the latter during initial imaging of COVID-19.
Patients suspected of having COVID-19 were scanned with a 128-slices scanner using two consecutive protocols in the same session (standard-dose scan 120 kV and 300 mA; low-dose scan 80 kV and 40 mA). Dose data acquisition and analysis was performed using an automated software. High and low-dose examinations were anonymized, shuffled and read by two radiologist with consensus according to a highly structured reporting format that was primarily based on the consensus statement of the RSNA. Accordingly, 8 typical, 2 indeterminate, and 7 atypical findings were investigated. Cases were then assigned to one of the categories (i) Cov19Tthe protocol of choice in the initial imaging of COVID-19 patients during which higher sensitivity is required.
We aimed to evaluate the use of the COVID-19 reporting and data system (CO-RADS) among radiologists and the diagnostic performance of this system.
Four radiologists retrospectively evaluated the chest CT examinations of 178 patients. The study included 143 patients with positive reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results and 35 patients whose RT-PCR tests were negative but whose clinical and/or radiological findings were consistent with COVID-19. Fleiss' kappa (κ) values were calculated, and individual observers' scores were compared. To investigate diagnostic efficiency, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated for each interpreter.
The interpreters were in full agreement on 574 of 712 (80.6%) evaluations. The common Fleiss' κ value of all the radiologists combined was 0.712 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.692-0.769). A reliable prediction on the basis of RT-PCR and clinical findings indicated the mean area under the curve (AUC) of Fleiss' κ value as 0.89 (95% CI 0.708-0.990). General interpreter agreement was found to range from moderate to good.
The interpreter agreement for CO-RADS categories 1 and 5 was reasonably good. We conclude that this scoring system will make a valuable contribution to efforts in COVID-19 diagnosis. CO-RADS can also be of significant value for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease in cases with false-negative PCR results.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) usually occurs accompanied by portal hypertension. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is recommended as an effective treatment in HCC. Recent studies had conflicting results regarding the effectiveness and safety of TACE for HCC in patients with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS). This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the influence of TIPS on the effectiveness and safety of TACE for patients with HCC.
A comprehensive search of studies among PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library was conducted, from the earliest publishing date to January 27th, 2020. Statistical analyses were all performed using the Stata 13.0 software. I2 index statistic was used to assess heterogeneity.
Six studies with a total of 536 patients with HCC were included in the analysis. The pooled response rate was 51% (95% CI 25% to 77%) with a significant heterogeneity (I2=93.3%, p < 0.001). The TACE + TIPS group had an inferior response rate than the non-TIPS group, but the difference had no statistical significance (p = 0.171) and heterogeneity was low (I2=0.00%, p = 0.490). Pooled hepatic failure rate was 8.8% (95% CI 5.2% to 12.4%) with low heterogeneity (I2=0.0%, p = 0.747). But the pooled hepatic failure rate increased to 12.7% (95% CI 5.7% to 19.7%) with low heterogeneity (I2=11.5%, p = 0.323) if the patients who received TIPS after TACE were excluded.
TIPS does not influence the effectiveness of TACE, but attention should be paid to the risk of hepatic failure.
