Chemical traveling waves play an important role in biological functions, such as the propagation of action potential and signal transduction in the nervous system. Such chemical waves are also observed in inanimate systems and are used to clarify their fundamental properties. In this study, chemical waves were generated with equivalent spacing on an excitable medium of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. The homogeneous distribution of the waves was unstable and low- and high-density regions were observed. In order to understand the fundamental mechanism of the observations, numerical calculations were performed using a mathematical model, the modified Oregonator model, including photosensitive terms. However, the homogeneous distribution of the traveling waves was stable over time in the numerical results. These results indicate that further modification of the model is required to reproduce our experimental observations and to discover the fundamental mechanism for the destabilization of the homogeneous-distributed chemical traveling waves. In order to make a comprehensive comparison between ultra-thin hot rolled low carbon steel (LC) and extra low carbon steel (ELC) produced by endless roll technology and explain the differences, a detailed investigation into the microstructural characterization, characteristics of cementite and precipitates, mechanical properties, internal friction peaks, texture characterization by an X-ray powder diffractometer and electron backscatter diffraction, and formability including earing behavior, hole expanding ratio and V-shaped bending properties was carried out with different carbon content for 1.0 mm thickness ultra-thin hot rolled strip produced in endless strip production line. The experimental results indicate that the microstructure of both is composed of multi-layer areas with different grain sizes and thicknesses, the strength and elongation of LC are higher than that of ELC, but the content of solid solution carbon atoms and r of ELC are higher than that of LC, at the same time, the formability of ultra-thin strip ELC is better than that of LC mainly related to the content of hkl of ELC was higher than those of LC. The mechanical and formability properties of ultra-thin hot rolled strip by endless roll technology can meet the requirements of replacement cold rolled strip by hot rolled strip. The conventional open ponding system employed for palm oil mill agro-effluent (POME) treatment fails to lower the levels of organic pollutants to the mandatory standard discharge limits. In this work, carbon doped black TiO2 (CB-TiO2) and carbon-nitrogen co-doped black TiO2 (CNB-TiO2) were synthesized via glycerol assisted sol-gel techniques and employed for the remediation of treated palm oil mill effluent (TPOME). Both the samples were anatase phase, with a crystallite size of 11.09-22.18 nm, lower bandgap of 2.06-2.63 eV, superior visible light absorption ability, and a high surface area of 239.99-347.26 m2/g. The performance of CNB-TiO2 was higher (51.48%) compared to only (45.72%) CB-TiO2. Thus, the CNB-TiO2 is employed in sonophotocatalytic reactions. Sonophotocatalytic process based on CNB-TiO2, assisted by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and operated at an ultrasonication (US) frequency of 30 kHz and 40 W power under visible light irradiation proved to be the most efficient for chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal. More than 90% of COD was removed within 60 min of sonophotocatalytic reaction, producing the effluent with the COD concentration well below the stipulated permissible limit of 50 mg/L. The electrical energy required per order of magnitude was estimated to be only 177.59 kWh/m3, indicating extreme viability of the proposed process for the remediation of TPOME.In recent years, inorganic-matrix reinforcement systems, such as fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM), composite-reinforced mortars (CRM), and steel-reinforced grout (SRG), have been increasingly used to retrofit and strengthen existing masonry and concrete structures. Despite their good short-term properties, limited information is available on their long-term behavior. In this paper, the long-term bond behavior of some FRCM, CRM, and SRG systems bonded to masonry substrates is investigated. Namely, the results of single-lap direct shear tests of FRCM-, CRM-, and SRG-masonry joints subjected to wet-dry cycles are provided and discussed. First, FRCM composites comprising carbon, polyparaphenylene benzobisoxazole (PBO), and alkali-resistant (AR) glass textiles embedded within cement-based matrices, are considered. Then, CRM and SRG systems made of an AR glass composite grid embedded with natural hydraulic lime (NHL) and of unidirectional steel cords embedded within the same lime matrix, respectively, are studied. For each type of composite, six specimens are exposed to 50 wet-dry cycles prior to testing. The results are compared with those of nominally equal unconditioned specimens previously tested by the authors. This comparison shows a shifting of the failure mode for some composites from debonding at the matrix-fiber interface to debonding at the matrix-substrate interface. Furthermore, the average peak stress of all systems decreases except for the carbon FRCM and the CRM, for which it remains unaltered or increases. The neural electrode technique is a powerful tool for monitoring and regulating neural activity, which has a wide range of applications in basic neuroscience and the treatment of neurological diseases. Constructing a high-performance electrode-nerve interface is required for the long-term stable detection of neural signals by electrodes. However, conventional neural electrodes are mainly fabricated from rigid materials that do not match the mechanical properties of soft neural tissues, thus limiting the high-quality recording of neuroelectric signals. Meanwhile, graphene-based nanomaterials can form stable electrode-nerve interfaces due to their high conductivity, excellent flexibility, and biocompatibility. In this literature review, we describe various graphene-based electrodes and their potential application in neural activity detection. We also discuss the biological safety of graphene neural electrodes, related challenges, and their prospects. Two new diamond-like (DL) chalcogenides, Li2MgGeSe4 and Li2MgSnSe4, have been successfully synthesized using a conventional high-temperature solid-state method. The two compounds crystallize in the non-centrosymmetric space group Pmn21 with a = 8.402 (14) Å, b = 7.181 (12) Å, c = 6.728 (11) Å, Z = 2 for Li2MgSnSe4, and a = 8.2961 (7) Å, b = 7.0069 (5) Å, c = 6.6116 (6) Å, Z = 2 for Li2MgGeSe4. The calculated results show that the second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients of Li2MgSnSe4 (d33 = 12.19 pm/v) and Li2MgGeSe4 (d33 = -14.77 pm/v), mainly deriving from the [MSe4] (M = Ge, Sn) tetrahedral units, are close to the one in the benchmark AgGaS2 (d14 = 13.7 pm/V). The calculated band gaps for Li2MgSnSe4 and Li2MgGeSe4 are 2.42 and 2.44 eV, respectively. Moreover, the two compounds are the first series of alkali and alkaline-earth metal DL compounds in the I2-II-IV-VI4 family, enriching the structural diversity of DL compounds. The effects of Al-Ti-C and La on the fluidity of a ZL205A alloy after separate and combined addition were studied by conducting a fluidity test. The fluidity of the ZL205A alloy first increased and then decreased with the increasing addition of Al-Ti-C and La; it peaked at 0.3% and 0.1% for Al-Ti-C and La, respectively. The combined addition of Al-Ti-C and La led to better fluidity, which increased by 74% compared with the base alloy. The affecting mechanism was clarified through microstructure characterization and a DSC test. The heterogeneous nucleation aided by Al-Ti-C and La, the number of particles in the melt, and the evolution of the solidification range all played a role. Based on the evolution of the fluidity and grain size, the optimal levels of Al-Ti-C and La leading to both high fluidity and small grain size were identified. The corrosion inhibition mechanism of soluble phosphates on steel reinforcement embedded in mortar fabricated with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) are reviewed. This review focuses soluble phosphate compounds, sodium monofluorophosphate (Na2PO3F) (MFP), disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4) (DHP) and trisodium phosphate (Na3PO4) (TSP), embedded in mortar. Phosphate corrosion inhibitors have been deployed in two different ways, as migrating corrosion inhibitors (MCI), or as admixed corrosion inhibitors (ACI). The chemical stability of phosphate corrosion inhibitors depends on the pH of the solution, H2PO4- ions being stable in the pH range of 3-6, the HPO42- in the pH range of 8-12, while the PO43- ions are stable above pH 12. The formation of iron phosphate compounds is a thermodynamically favored spontaneous reaction. Phosphate ions promote ferrous phosphate precipitation due to the higher solubility of ferric phosphate, thus producing a protective barrier layer that hinders corrosion. Therefore, the MFP as well as the DHP and TSP compounds are considered anodic corrosion inhibitors. Both types of application (MCI and ACI) of phosphate corrosion inhibitors found MFP to present the higher inhibition efficiency in the following order MFP > DHP > TSP.The dependency of device degradation on bending direction and channel length is analyzed in terms of bandgap states in amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (a-IGZO) films. The strain distribution in an a-IGZO film under perpendicular and parallel bending of a device with various channel lengths is investigated by conducting a three-dimensional mechanical simulation. Based on the obtained strain distribution, new device simulation structures are suggested in which the active layer is defined as consisting of multiple regions. The different arrangements of a highly strained region and density of states is proportional to the strain account for the measurement tendency. The analysis performed using the proposed structures reveals the causes underlying the effects of different bending directions and channel lengths, which cannot be explained using the existing simulation methods in which the active layer is defined as a single region.Water-rich conductive hydrogels with excellent stretchability are promising in strain sensors due to their potential application in flexible electronics. However, the features of being water-rich also limit their working environment. MAPK inhibitor Hydrogels must be frozen at subzero temperatures and dried out under ambient conditions, leading to a loss of mechanical and electric properties. Herein, we prepare HAGx hydrogels (a polyacrylic acid (HAPAA) hydrogel in a binary water-glycerol solution, where x is the mass ratio of water to glycerol), in which the water is replaced with water-glycerol mixed solutions. The as-prepared HAGx hydrogels show great anti-freezing properties at a range of -70 to 25 °C, as well as excellent moisture stability (the weight retention rate was as high as 93% after 14 days). With the increase of glycerol, HAGx hydrogels demonstrate a superior stretchable and self-healing ability, which could even be stretched to more than 6000% without breaking, and had a 100% self-healing efficiency. The HAGx hydrogels had good self-healing ability at subzero temperatures.
