Western security regarding enterovirus D68 through the emerging North-American outbreak within 2014.
Intuitive eating has been associated with positive health benefits, yet the research investigating intuitive eating with dietary intake is minimal, inconsistent, and may differ by sex and food security status. The purpose of this study is to identify relationships between intuitive eating and dietary intake in adults living in the US and explore differences by sex and food insecurity status. We recruited 308 adults 18 years and older living in the US to complete an online survey including demographic data, intuitive eating, a diet screener questionnaire, and food insecurity status. We used structural equation modeling to analyze relationships between intuitive eating subscales, calcium, whole grains, added sugars, vegetables, and fruits. Then, we explored differences by sex and food security status. Unconditional permission to eat was associated with a higher intake of added sugar, while body-food choice congruence was associated with a lower intake of added sugar and calcium, and a higher intake of vegetables and whole grains. Eating for physical rather than emotional reasons was associated with a higher intake of calcium and vegetables. Intuitive eating differed by sex and food security status. While intuitive eating is not consistently related to the intake of more nutritious foods, eating for physical rather than emotional reasons and body-food choice congruence may promote diet quality in a community sample. Men and food secure adults scored higher in intuitive eating suggesting tailored intuitive eating interventions may be essential to increase effectiveness.
Emotional eating has been associated with biases of attention and memory for visual food cues. This eye-tracking study investigated whether the tendency to overeat in response to sadness is associated with the inspection and recall of visual food cues.

Participants (n=115, mean age=26years, 70 females, 45 males) viewed images depicting food and non-food. We compared gaze duration, 'hyperscanning' parameters (fixation duration, saccadic angle, scan path length), and recall performance between different image categories (high-calorie, low-calorie food, non-food) and groups with different sadness-associated eating styles (increased, decreased, unchanged food consumption during states of sadness).

The group with sadness-related overeating reported a higher body mass index than the other groups, but neither displayed a visual attention bias nor memory bias for food cues. We observed a prolonged gaze duration for low-calorie food cues, which were rated as more appetizing than high-calorie cues. All participants recalled more food cues (low- and high-calorie) than non-food cues independent of gaze duration.

This study expanded previous research designs by groups that decrease vs. increase the amount eaten when feeling sad, and food/non-food images that were carefully matched for visual properties. Based on this approach, we were not able to show that self-disclosed sadness eating is associated with visual/memory biases for food images.

Here, a MFS patient specific iPSC carrying a novel heterozygous mutation (c.7897 T > G) in FBN1 gene was generated. This iPSC line exhibited normal morphology and karyotype, and could differentiate into three germ layers in vivo and in vitro. Thus, the established iPSC line provided a precise platform for elucidating the molecular pathogenesis and personalized drug screening of MFS.The effects of genetic mutations on protein function can be studied in a physiologically relevant environment using tissue-specific cells differentiated from patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). However, it is crucial to use iPSC derived from healthy individuals as control. We generated an iPS cell line from skin fibroblasts of a healthy Caucasian male by nucleofection of non-integrating episomal vectors. This cell line has normal karyotype, expresses pluripotency surface markers and pluripotency genes, and successfully differentiates into cells of the 3 germ layers. Therefore, it can be used as control for any disease of interest that is modelled using iPSC.Due to the numerous potential health benefits of Curcuma, turmeric dietary supplements (DS) are among the top selling products. To assess the quality of these formulations, thirty Curcuma DS along with five standard Curcuma rhizomes were analyzed with UHPLC-MS and 1H NMR. The chemometric treatment of the UHPLC-MS spectra showed a significant variability of their chemical composition that was confirmed by 1H NMR which allowed the absolute quantification of the Curcuma major bioactive components, i.e. curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin), and turmerones (aryl-, α- and β-) as well as piperine, a commonly associated curcumin bioavailability enhancer respectively 3.5-556, 0-8.6, 0.18-8.1 mg/capsule or tablet. The comparison of the actual and claimed quantities of curcuminoids and piperine showed that 58% of the DS contained the expected amounts of actives.
Gardnerella vaginalis (GV)-associated bacterial vaginosis is recognised for its detrimental effects on pregnancy resulting in poor obstetric and neonatal outcomes. There is limited knowledge of the effects on placental histomorphology following GV infection in pregnancy. We investigated the effects of GV infection on the placenta, particularly with regards to the syncytiotrophoblasts and vascular development, and related these to neonatal outcomes.

A prospective cohort study involving GV-positive pregnant women presented with abnormal vaginal discharge, with gestational age-matched healthy pregnant women controls. Placental sampling was performed upon delivery and examined histologically. Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) mRNA and protein expression were analysed by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry respectively. The standard measures in neonatal outcomes were recorded.

Placentas from GV-positive mothers were found to have significant histologica serve as a protective role in moderating birth outcomes. While suicide prevention is a national priority, particularly among service members and veterans (SMVs), understanding of suicide-related outcomes remains poor. Person-centered approaches (e.g., latent class analysis) have promise to identify unique risk profiles and subgroups in the larger population. The current study identified latent subgroups characterized by prior self-directed violence history and proximal risk factors for suicide among suicide attempt survivors, and compared subgroups on demographics and most-lethal attempt characteristics. Participants included civilians and SMVs reporting lifetime suicide attempt(s) (n = 2643) from the Military Suicide Research Consortium. Two classes emerged from Common Data Elements suicide attempt and non-suicidal self-injury frequency, suicide attempt method, perceived likelihood of future suicide, suicide disclosure, suicide intent, and perceived and actual lethality of attempt. A Higher-Risk History class was characterized by greater intent to die, certainty about attempt fatality and method lethality, belief injury would be medically unfixable, and likelihood of prior non-suicidal self-injury. A Lower-Risk History class was characterized by greater ambivalence toward death and methods. Higher-Risk class members were more likely to be male, older, SMVs, have less formal education, use firearms as most-lethal attempt method, and require a higher degree of medical attention. Lower-Risk class members were more likely to be female, civilian, use cutting as most-lethal attempt method, and require less medical attention for attempts. Findings have implications for risk assessments and highlight the importance of subjective perceptions about suicidal behavior. Further investigation of real-time individual-level is necessary, especially for SMVs who may be at greatest risk for potentially lethal suicidal behavior.
Visual-spatial working memory (vsWM) impairment in treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) currently has no satisfactory treatment. Our study aimed to improve vsWM function in TRS through intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) using neuronavigation equipment to target the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

TRS patients (n=59) were randomly allocated to receive iTBS (n=33) or a sham treatment (n=26) over 2 weeks. find more The participants including TRS patients and healthy controls (HCs) performed the vsWM n-back task, and TRS patients' neuroimaging data were acquired before and after treatment. All patients also underwent a battery of symptom measures to assess the severity of illness. The main outcome measure was the accuracy (ACC) of n-back target responses, particularly 3-back ACC.

The iTBS group showed considerable improvement in n-back ACC compared to the sham group, especially 3-back ACC. After iTBS, performance on the n-back task was comparable to that of HCs. The interaction (group×time) results showed increased fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (fALFF) in the right occipital areas and decreased fALFF in the right precuneus. However, there was a negative correlation between the 3-back ACC and improved clinical symptoms scores. Improvements in 3-back ACC were positively correlated with activity in the right visual cortex.

Our study suggested that 2 weeks of iTBS intervention may be a novel, efficacious treatment for vsWM deficits in TRS, which can modulate the activity of local brain regions. iTBS can provide a solution for clinical treatment of TRS and may help patients approach normalcy.

Surface ictal electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring has an important role in the presurgical evaluation of patients with focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). This study aimed to examine the characteristics of seizure onset pattern (SOP) on surface ictal EEG. This information will be useful for invasive monitoring planning.

We reviewed 290 seizures from 31 patients with intractable seizures related to FCD type II (6 patients with FCD IIa and 25 patients with FCD IIb). We categorized the SOPs into five patterns and evaluated the relationships between the SOPs and the location and pathology of the FCD II subtype.

The most common SOP was no apparent change (39.0%), followed by rhythmic slow wave and repetitive spikes/sharp waves. The SOP of rhythmic slow wave was associated with FCD II in the temporal lobe (P<0.001), and the SOP of no apparent change was associated with FCD II in the occipital lobe (P=0.012). The SOPs of rhythmic slow waves and fast activity were most common in FCD IIa, P<0.001 and 0.031, respectively.
