The third day was a significant time point for renal deterioration, and treatment with B4 and DXM within the first 3 days provided significant protection against AKI.This study aims to establish the isolation and purification method of polysaccharides from medicinal residue of Panax notoginseng (PPN). The structure and protective effect of PPN on myelosuppression mice were investigated. One neutral polysaccharide (NPPN) and five acidic polysaccharides (APPN I, APPN II-A, APPN II-B, APPN III-A, and APPN III-B) were obtained. The results confirmed that NPPN, APPN I and APPN II-A are glycan with 1, 4 main chains. APPN III-A is a glycan. APPN II-B and APPN III-B are homogalacturonan pectin with 1, 4 main chains. This study demonstrated that NPPN played a bone marrow protective role in myelosuppression mice induced by cyclophosphamide. NPPN could relieve cell cycle arrest, reduce the apoptosis rate of marrow cells, and improve granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating (GM-CSF), thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and erythropoietin (EPO) serum level, which contributes to promoting the proliferation of hematopoietic cells.Pharmacology education currently lacks a research-based consensus on which core concepts all graduates should know and understand, as well as a valid and reliable means to assess core conceptual learning. The Core Concepts in Pharmacology Expert Group (CC-PEG) from Australia and New Zealand recently identified a set of core concepts of pharmacology education as a first step toward developing a concept inventory-a valid and reliable tool to assess learner attainment of concepts. In the current study, CC-PEG used established methodologies to define each concept and then unpack its key components. Expert working groups of three to seven educators were formed to unpack concepts within specific conceptual groupings what the body does to the drug (pharmacokinetics); what the drug does to the body (pharmacodynamics); and system integration and modification of drug-response. First, a one-sentence definition was developed for each core concept. Next, sub-concepts were established for each core concept. These twenty core concepts, along with their respective definitions and sub-concepts, can provide pharmacology educators with a resource to guide the development of new curricula and the evaluation of existing curricula. The unpacking and articulation of these core concepts will also inform the development of a pharmacology concept inventory. We anticipate that these resources will advance further collaboration across the international pharmacology education community to improve curricula, teaching, assessment, and learning.Nucleoside-lipid conjugates are very useful supramolecular building blocks to construct self-assembled architectures suited for biomedical and material applications. Such nucleoside derivatives can be further synthetically manipulated to endow additional functionalities that could augment the assembling process and impart interesting properties. Here, we report the design, synthesis and self-assembling process of multifunctional supramolecular nucleolipid synthons containing an environment-sensitive fluorescent guanine. The amphiphilic synthons are composed of an 8-(2-(benzofuran-2-yl)vinyl)-guanine core and alkyl chains attached to 3'-O and 5'-O-positions of 2'-deoxyguanosine. The 2-(benzofuran-2-yl)vinyl (BFV) moiety attached at the C8 position of the nucleobase adopted a syn conformation about the glycosidic bond, which facilitated the self-assembly process through the formation of a G-tetrad as the basic unit. While 3',5'-diacylated BFV-modified dG analog stabilized the guanosine hydrogel by hampering the crystallization process and imparted fluorescence, BFV-modified dGs containing longer alkyl chains formed a green fluorescent organogel, which transformed into a yellow fluorescent gel in the presence of a complementary non-fluorescent cytidine nucleolipid. The ability of the dG analog containing short alkyl chains to modulate the mechanical property of a gel, and interesting fluorescence properties and self-assembling behavior exhibited by the dG analogs containing long alkyl chains in response to heat and complementary base underscore the potential use of these new supramolecular synthons in material applications.
Autonomic dysfunction may occur during the acute phase of COVID-19. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a useful tool for the assessment of cardiac sympathetic and parasympathetic balance. We aimed to evaluate cardiac autonomic function by using HRV in subjects after recovery from COVID-19 who had previously symptomatic and were followed outpatiently.

The study group composed of 50subjects with a confirmed history of COVID-19 and the control group composed of 50healthy subjects without a history of COVID-19 and vaccination. All the study participants underwent 2-dimensional, pulsed- and tissue-Doppler echocardiographic examinations and 24-hour Holter monitoring for HRV analysis.

Time domain parameters of SDNN, SDANN, SDNNi, RMSSD, pNN50, and HRV triangular index were all decreased in the study group when compared with the control group. Frequency domain parameters of TP, VLF, LF, HF, and HFnu were also decreased in the study group in comparison with the control group. LFnu was similar between groups. Nonlinear parameters of HRV including α
and α
decreased in the study group. By contrast, Lmax, Lmean, DET, REC, and Shannon entropy increased in the study population. Approximate and sample entropies also enhanced in the study group.

The present study showed that all three domain HRV significantly altered in patients after recovery from COVID-19 indicating some degree of dysfunction in cardiac autonomic nervous system. HRV may be a useful tool for the detection of preclinical autonomic dysfunction in this group of patients.

Colors of the seed coat, hilum ring, and corona are all important, along with susceptibility to postharvest darkening, which decreases seed value. This study aimed to characterize a collection of 295 yellow bean genotypes for seed appearance and postharvest darkening, evaluate genotype × environment (G × E) effects and map those traits via genome-wide association analysis. Yellow bean germplasm were grown for 2 yr in Michigan and Nebraska and seed were evaluated for L*a*b* color values, postharvest darkening, and hilum ring and corona colors. A model to exclude the hilum ring and corona of the seeds, black background, and light reflection was developed by using machine learning, allowing for targeted and efficient L*a*b* value extraction from the seed coat. The G × E effects were significant for the color values, and Michigan-grown seeds were darker than Nebraska-grown seeds. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were associated with L* and hilum ring color on Pv10 near the J gene involved in mature seed coat color and hilum ring color. A SNP on Pv07 associated with L*, a*, postharvest darkening, and hilum ring and corona colors was near the P gene, the ground factor gene for seed coat color expression. The machine-learning-aided model used to extract color values from the seed coat, the wide variability in seed morphology traits, and the associated SNPs provide tools for future breeding and research efforts to meet consumers' expectations for bean seed appearance.Drought is a major constraint on plant productivity globally. Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] landraces have evolved in drought-prone regions, but the genetics of their adaptation is poorly understood. Here we sought to identify novel drought-tolerance loci and test hypotheses on the role of known loci including those underlying stay-green (Stg) postflowering drought tolerance. We phenotyped 590 diverse sorghum accessions from West Africa in 10 environments, under field-based managed drought stress [preflowering water stress (WS1), postflowering water stress (WS2), and well-watered (WW)] and rainfed (RF) conditions over 4 yr. Days to 50% flowering (DFLo), aboveground dry biomass (DBM), plant height (PH), and plant grain yield components (including grain weight [GrW], panicle weight [PW] and grain number [GrN] per plant, and 1000-grain weight [TGrW]) were measured, and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) was conducted. Broad-sense heritability for biomass and plant grain yield was high (33-92%) across environments. There was a significant correlation between stress tolerance index (STI) for GrW per plant across WS1 and WS2. Genome-wide association studies revealed that SbZfl1 and SbCN12, orthologs of maize (Zea mays L.) flowering genes, likely underlie flowering time variation under these conditions. Genome-wide association studies further identified associations (n = 134; common between two GWAS models) for STI and drought effects on plant yield components including 16 putative pleiotropic associations. Thirty of the associations colocalized with Stg1, Stg2, Stg3, and Stg4 loci and had large effects. Seven lead associations, including some within Stg1, overlapped with positive selection outliers. Our findings reveal previously undescribed natural genetic variation for drought-tolerance-related traits and suggest a broad role of Stg loci in drought adaptation of sorghum.Bat paramyxoviruses (PmV) are a diverse group of viruses and include zoonotic viruses such as henipaviruses. Members of this group in other continents have been associated with severe respiratory and neurological infections in animals and humans. Furthermore, despite the richness of diverse bat species that can transmit this virus in African countries like Nigeria, there is very scanty information as to the presence and co-evolution of paramyxoviruses in bats. There is a need for continuous surveillance of zoonotic viruses and their biological reservoirs as this will help in the prevention and management of pathogens' spillovers. This study detected novel paramyxoviruses in Chaerephon nigeriae bat species found in Badagry, Lagos. Existing experimental studies on animals have focused on measuring the global retinal response by transversally averaging 3D data across the retina, which minimizes the spatial resolution of the signals, and limits the signal-to-noise ratio because only central B-scans are collected and analyzed. These problems were addressed in this study by collecting volumetric data to probe functional signals and developing an improved 3D registration approach to align such series-acquired OCT volumes. These data were then divided into small blocks and subject to a spatiotemporal analysis, whose results confirmed the spatial-dependence of functional signals. By further averaging, the overall measurement accuracies for the position and the scattering signals were estimated to be approximately 30 nm and 1.
