Culinary medicine courses with a lifestyle medicine focus may be effective in increasing medical students' confidence and perceived knowledge of nutrition and lifestyle medicine.
Several factors are known to affect the way clinical performance evaluations (CPEs) of medical students are completed by supervising physicians. We sought to explore the effect of faculty perceived "level of interaction" (LOI) on these evaluations.
Our third-year CPE requires evaluators to identify perceived LOI with each student as low, moderate, or high. We examined CPEs completed during the academic year 2018-2019 for differences in (1) clinical and professionalism ratings, (2) quality of narrative comments, (3) quantity of narrative comments, and (4) percentage of evaluation questions left unrated.
A total of 3682 CPEs were included in the analysis. ANOVA revealed statistically significant differences between LOI and clinical ratings (
≤ .001), with mean ratings from faculty with a high LOI significantly higher than from faculty with a moderate or low LOI (
≤ .001). Chi-squared analysis demonstrated differences based on faculty LOI and whether questions were left unrated (
≤ .001), quantity of narrative comments (
≤ .001), and specificity of narrative comments (
≤ .001).
Faculty who perceive higher LOI were more likely to assign that student higher ratings, complete more of the clinical evaluation and were more likely to provide narrative feedback with more specific, higher-quality comments.

Undergraduate medical education has evolved necessarily with the increasing utilization of technology and the availability of ancillary resources developed for medical students. However, medical educationalresources are expensive and there have been few studies validating these resources for their ability to significantly modify student exam performance.
A post-exam survey was devised to evaluate medical studentsfor resource usage, student-perceived preparedness, and exam performance.
Students who felt more prepared for exams performed better than students who felt less prepared (
= .017). Students who watched didactic lectures online and those who utilized peer-to-peer tutoring outperformed students who did not use these resources (
= .035,
= .008). Analyses of the data show that none of the purchased resources utilized significantly improved student exam performance. The majority of students used between six and eight resources for exam preparation. There may be a slightly negative association with the quantity of resources used and exam scores (
= .18).
Contrary to traditional confidence studies that correlate overconfidence with underperformance, medical students who reported feeling more prepared for exams performed better than students who felt less prepared.
Medical students may have a more complete grasp of their knowledge base and deficits, which may enable a more accurate match between exam expectations and academic performance. This post-exam survey method can be customized and applied to evaluate resource utility as it pertains to specific undergraduate medical education curricula at individual institutions.

Analytic thinking skills are important to the development of physicians. Therefore, educators and licensing boards utilize multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to assess these knowledge and skills. MCQs are written under two assumptions that they can be written as higher or lower order according to Bloom's taxonomy, and students will perceive questions to be the same taxonomical level as intended. This study seeks to understand the students' approach to questions by analyzing differences in students' perception of theBloom's level of MCQs in relation to their knowledge and confidence.
A total of 137 students responded to practice endocrine MCQs. Participants indicated the answer to thequestion, their interpretation of it as higher or lower order, and the degree of confidence in their response to the question.
Although there was no significant association between students' average performance on the content and their question classification (higher or lower), individual students who were less confident in thing of the processes through which students interpret MCQs will help us to better understand the development of clinical reasoning skills.It is generally assumed by students that learning takes place during repeated episodes of rereading and rote memorization of course materials. Over the past few decades, however, research has increasingly indicated that the said notion can and should be enhanced with learning paradigms such as retrieval practice (RP). RP occurs when students practice retrieving their consolidated semantic memories by informally testing themselves. This strategy results in the re-encoding and re-consolidation of existing semantic memories, thus strengthening their schemas. The purpose of this quasi-experimental design was to assess the effects of the implementation of RP on student performance on the final exam in a large, undergraduate Gross Anatomy course. It was hypothesized that student participation in RP during class would improve their performance on the final exam in the course. The participants (N = 248) were mainly in Life Sciences, Kinesiology, and Physical Education programs. They answered RP questions using TopHat©, an online educational software platform. The results of this study indicated that student performance on the final exam was enhanced when students engaged in RP. It was concluded that the use of RP effectively enhances learning and long-term retention of semantic memory. In addition to the traditional testing 'of' learning, teachers are encouraged to implement testing, in the form of RP, in their classrooms 'for' learning.Augmenting its nutrition education, the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Endocrinology course initially used a case-based, take-home assignment on type II diabetes dietary guidelines, with literature search requirement and a module on relevant social determinants of health (SDOH). Course evaluations indicated this assignment did not adequately improve student perceptions of learning. For the subsequent cohort, we changed to a large-group active learning session, requiring one faculty facilitator, where student teams created problem lists including SDOH and reviewed research articles to support evidence-based nutrition recommendations. Survey results indicate that the new session resulted in significantly improved student perceptions of learning.

Vertically integrating anatomy into pathology curricula is beneficial for student-centered learning. This study investigates the effectiveness of this approach on student learning outcomes.

We created PRIME Immunology Preview or Review of Important Material for Everyone (i) video modules, (ii) Instagram site, and (iii) vocabulary files called Immunology Language.
The self-paced modules introduced key topics in immunology for students to complete prior to their instructional block.

During training, family medicine (FM) residents acquire the skills necessary to counsel patients who are at risk, provide comprehensive management, and respond in emergent situations. The purpose of this study was to assess FM resident's knowledge about IFE, counseling, and attitudes towards responding to IFEs. A 15-question survey was sent to FM residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. IFE training options were also reviewed. Developing recommended anatomy objectives to serve as a curricular guide may foster more consistent student outcomes while preserving instructional autonomy. These objectives could serve as a vital resource when making decisions during curricular reform or prioritizing and emphasizing the curriculum's anatomic content. We advocate for collaboration amongst anatomy faculty and clinicians to create specific and measurable anatomy learning objectives for the entry-level physical therapist. It is essential that the objectives be peer-reviewed and that they reflect a global consensus.
