Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most frequent demyelinating disease in young adults and despite significant advances in immunotherapy, disease progression still cannot be prevented. To determine whether intrinsic oligodendroglial factors contribute to impaired remyelination in relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), we compared induced pluripotent stem cell-derived oligodendrocytes (hiOL) from RRMS patients and controls, among them two monozygous twin pairs discordant for MS. We found that hiOL from RRMS patients and controls were virturug screening approaches taking the inflammatory environment into account. Combined, these findings may contribute to the development of new remyelination promoting strategies.
Regular treatment with intravitreal operative medication injections (IVOM) and the associated frequent check-ups are amajor challenge for many patients, which can lead to treatment discontinuation. The aim of the modified treat and extend (TAE) in blocks scheme is to achieve stable retinal and visual outcomes with as few control visits as possible and thus to minimize the burden for the individual patient.

This monocentric retrospective study examined the treatment courses of 387 patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema and retinal vein occlusion, who were treated by three blocks of intravitreal injections in the TAE regimen. The primary endpoint was achieving an injection interval of 12weeks.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common pathological condition that may require surgical management. Several surgical treatment options are possible, and practice varies from one center to another. The objective of the present study was to describe the surgical management and outcomes of POP in France from 2008 to 2014.

We performed a retrospective cohort study of all patients operated on for POP from 2008 to 2014, according to the French national hospital discharge summary database. Patient characteristics, surgical approaches, concomitant hysterectomy and/or incontinence surgery, the length of stay, the proportion of day-case operations, and patient outcomes were analyzed.

We analyzed 310,938 hospital stays with POP surgery between 2008 and 2014; 130,908 (42%) of the operations took place in hospitals performing more than 100 prolapse surgical procedures per year. The proportion of day-case operations was low, but rose significantly from 1.2% to 4.6% during the study period. More than half of the operations featured a vaginal approach. The proportions of operations with concomitant hysterectomy or urinary incontinence surgery fell from 41.0% to 36.1% and from 33.0% to 25.8% respectively. The proportions of laparoscopic procedures increased. The mortality rate was stable (0.07% for all years).

Oral pentosan polysulphate (PPS) has been used in the treatment of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) for almost 35years. read more However, in some recent studies, questions have been raised about its efficacy in treating this condition. We aimed to evaluate the published medical literature and discuss the clinical utility of oral PPS in the treatment of BPS/IC.

PUBMED was searched for BPS/IC, treatment and PPS. Of the initial 398 articles screened, 7 randomized controlled trials, 3 systematic reviews and 3 meta-analyses were finally included in this study (Fig. 1). Other relevant literature such as observational studies and various clinical guidelines was also reviewed. The inclusion criteria, intervention methodology and end points of the studies were examined.

Of the seven RCTs, five found a clear beneficial role of oral PPS in IC/BPS. The only study which did not have cystoscopy as a diagnostic and inclusion criterion failed to show any benefit of oral PPS compared to placebo. Two out of three meta-analyses clearly concluded that oral PPS had a positive role to play in the treatment of BPS/IC. Various open-label studies did conclude in favour of oral PPS as a treatment modality for these patients.

Most PTB is spontaneous and idiopathic, with largely undefined causes. To increase understanding of PTB, much research in recent years has focused on using animal models to recapitulate the pathophysiology of PTB. Dysfunctions of maternal immune adaptations have been implicated in a range of pregnancy pathologies, including PTB. A wealth of evidence arising from mouse models as well as human studies is now available to support that PTB results from a breakdown in fetal-maternal tolerance, along with excessive, premature inflammation. In this review, we examine the current knowledge of the bidirectional communication between fetal and maternal systems and its role in the immunopathogenesis of PTB. Total 130 soil samples were collected from surface layer (0-10 cm) in urban road, overpass, residential area and park in the city during January 2019. Concentrations of ∑PAH16 in the urban soil ranged from 49.90 to 11,565 µg kg-1 and seven carcinogenic PAHs accounted for 69% of the total PAHs. The mean concentrations of PAHs decreased in the following order urban road > overpass > residential area > park. Analysis based on diagnostic rate demonstrated that PAHs mainly originated from pyrolysis sources including traffic emissions and combustion of coal and biomass. Health risk assessment indicated that PAHs in urban road in the city have potential carcinogenic risks to residents. The present study suggested that the control of urban PAHs pollution in Zhengzhou City should be strengthened.
A high-density linkage map of an intraspecific RIL population was constructed using 6187 bins to identify QTLs for fibre quality- and yield-related traits in upland cotton by whole-genome resequencing. Good fibre quality and high yield are important production goals in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), which is a leading natural fibre crop worldwide. However, a greater understanding of the genetic variants underlying fibre quality- and yield-related traits is still required. In this study, a large-scale population including 588 F
recombinant inbred lines, derived from an intraspecific cross between the upland cotton cv. Nongdamian13, which exhibits high quality, and Nongda601, which exhibits a high yield, was genotyped by using 232,946 polymorphic single-nucleotide polymorphisms obtained via a whole-genome resequencing strategy with 4.3-fold genome coverage. We constructed a high-density bin linkage map containing 6187 bin markers spanning 4478.98cM with an average distance of 0.72cM. We identified 58 individual quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and 25 QTL clusters harbouring 94 QTLs, and 119 previously undescribed QTLs controlling 13 fibre quality and yield traits across eight environments.
