This study aimed to evaluate the audiological benefits and subjective satisfaction in using a new adhesive bone conduction hearing aid in children with congenital unilateral microtia and atresia.

We evaluated the effectiveness of the hearing aid using the sound field hearing threshold, speech recognition ability under quiet and noise, and subjective questionnaires in 13 children (5-15years old).

The mean sound field hearing threshold significantly improved with a gain of 25.4 ± 4.9dB HL. Mean word recognition scores were ameliorated in quiet and noise by 1.9 ± 2.5% and 7.3 ± 5.3%, respectively. Speech recognition ability results in noise varied; when the speech signal and noise were presented from the front, the mean speech recognition ability improved by 2.5 ± 1.6dB signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). When noise was presented towards the normal hearing side, speech understanding was improved by 2.9 ± 1.6dB SNR. When the speech signal was presented from the atretic side with noise from the normal hearing side, an improvement of 5.7 ± 3.4dB SNR (p < 0.001) was noted. However, when noise was presented towards the newly aided atretic ear, no statistical significance was found. The questionnaire results indicated that the hearing device provided benefits in speech recognition ability in different complex situations, with high satisfaction rates.

The adhesive bone conduction hearing aid investigated here offers a concealed and aesthetic method to improve hearing in children with congenital unilateral microtia and atresia during their early years, with high subjective satisfaction.Benefiting from their unique advantages, including reversibly switchable structures, good biocompatibility, facile functionalization, and sensitive response to biological stimuli, supramolecular biomaterials have been widely applied in biomedicine. In this review, the representative achievements and trends in the design of supramolecular biomaterials (mainly those derived from biomacromolecules) with specific macromolecules including peptides, deoxyribonucleic acid, and polysaccharides, as well as their applications in bio-imaging and imaging-guided therapy are summarized. This review will serve as an important summary and "go for" reference for explorations of the applications of supramolecular biomaterials in bio-imaging and image-guided therapy, and will promote the development of supramolecular chemistry as an emerging interdisciplinary research area.
The first wave of the SARS-CoV‑2 pandemic required substantial changes in the teaching of medical students, with strict avoidance of direct contact between students and patients. Therefore, the teaching format "bedside teaching" was implemented and conducted as an interactive video-based distance bedside teaching.

The objective of this study was to analyze a students' evaluation of this teaching concept in otorhinolaryngology.

From an ENT examination room, the situation was transmitted live to the students in alecture hall, who could interact with the patients through avideo connection. Macro-, micro-, and endoscopic images were transmitted into the lecture hall in real time. Evaluation was performed by means of an online questionnaire with 13questions (Likert scale) as well as by free-text feedback.

The response rate was 16.8% (42of 250students). Overall, 85.7% had apositive impression, and it was generally considered that the concept was well implemented in light of the special situation. However, students would rather not renounce direct patient contact, even if acertain compensation by video transmission was reported. Overall, this teaching concept was considered as educative, and students could imagine using such ateaching concept more often in the future.

This teaching model cannot replace classical bedside teaching, but represents agood alternative-particularly in otorhinolaryngology-if classical bedside teaching is not possible due to the pandemic situation. Aspects of the interactive video-based distance bedside teaching could be implemented into classical teaching concepts in the future.We started a single-arm, phase II, open-label, prospective clinical trial using steroids-ruxolitinib as the first-line therapy for intermediate- to high-risk aGVHD (NCT04397367). Here, we report the association of a biomarker panel (sST2, REG3α, sTNFR1, IL-6 and IL-8) with responses to GVHD therapy. The novel first-line therapy for 39 patients with newly diagnosed aGVHD consisted of 1 mg/kg methylprednisolone and 5 mg/day ruxolitinib. The serum concentrations of the biomarkers were prospectively detected at planned time points. Of the 39 patients, the complete response rate at day 28 was 82.05%. In patients who achieved CR, the concentrations of REG3α (P14 = 0.01; P28 = 0.10) and sTNFR1 (P14 = 0.42; P28 = 0.04) declined at day 14 and day 28 compared with the pre-enrolment levels. In refractory patients, the levels of REG3α at day 14 were higher than those pre-enrolment (P = 0.04). REG3α (P = 0.02) was elevated in the refractory patients compared with the patients achieving CR at day 14 after enrolment, while there was no significant difference in the levels of sST2, sTNFR1 or IL-6. Elevated REG3α levels may predict refractory aGVHD after novel first-line therapy with steroids-ruxolitinib.Precise foot placement is dependent on changes in spatial and temporal coordination between two legs in response to a perturbation during walking. Here, we used a 'virtual' split-belt adaptation task to examine the effects of reinforcement (reward and punishment) feedback about foot placement on the changes in error, step length and step time asymmetry. Twenty-seven healthy adults (20 ± 2.5 years) walked on a treadmill with continuous feedback of the foot position and stepping targets projected on a screen, defined by a visuomotor gain for each leg. The paradigm consisted of a baseline period (same gain on both legs), visuomotor adaptation period (split one high = 'fast', one low = 'slow' gain) and post-adaptation period (same gain). Participants were divided into 3 groups control group received no score, reward group received increasing score for each target hit, and punishment group received decreasing score for each target missed. Re-adaptation was assessed 24 ± 2 h later. During early adaptation, the slow foot undershot and fast foot overshot the stepping target. Foot placement errors were gradually reduced by late adaptation, accompanied by increasing step length asymmetry (fast  slow step time). Only the punishment group showed greater error reduction and step length re-adaptation on the next day. The results show that (1) explicit feedback of foot placement alone drives adaptation of both step length and step time asymmetry during virtual split-belt walking, and (2) specifically, step length re-adaptation driven by visuomotor errors may be enhanced by punishment feedback.The cohorts of people formerly living at the Techa River shoreline in the Southern Urals, Russia, are widely studied cohorts for the investigation of low-dose radiation effects to human health. For this settlement there were two sources of external exposure, the contaminated banks of the Techa River and the contaminated shoreline of the nearby Metlinsky Pond. In the present study the north-western wall of a granary was used as a dose archive to validate dose estimates. Measurements of doses in brick accumulated over many decades and measurements of the current dose rate in bricks were combined with dose rate measurements in air above ground in front of the granary, historical contamination data and Monte-Carlo simulations. Air kerma estimates for 1949-1956 significantly different from zero could not be reconstructed for the Metlinsky Pond shoreline near the granary, but an upper dose limit could be estimated. Implications for TRDS-2016 are discussed.

In Experiments 1 and 2, male and female preweanling rats were given a single pretreatment injection of saline, the 5-HT
agonist (R)-( +)-8-hydroxy-DPAT (8-OH-DPAT), or the 5-HT
agonist CP-94253 on PD 20. After 48h, rats received a challenge injection of 8-OH-DPAT or CP-94253, respectively. In Experiment 3, rats were pretreated with saline or DPAT + CP on PD 20 and challenged with the same drug cocktail on PD 22. In Experiment 4, the tolerance- or sensitization-inducing properties of 8-OH-DPAT, CP-94253, or DPAT + CP were tested after a 4-day pretreatment regimen on PD 17-20.

In a 3-year longitudinal study of initially SU-naïve adolescents (N = 129; 70 females; 11-14 years old), participants underwent an MRI structural scan at baseline and provided genetic assays for OPRM1 and DRD2 with SU behavior assessed during follow-up visits. Baseline differences in key reward-related brain regions (i.e., bilateral caudate and cingulate cortex) were detected in those with genetic liability for SU in OPRM1 who went onto engage in SU at subsequent waves of data collection. In addition, main effects of OPRM1, DRD2, and SU were related to variability in structure of the putamen, anterior cingulate, and nucleus accumbens, respectively.
