Hypertension (HTN) can be present in up to two-thirds of patients living with diabetes mellitus (DM). It is a risk factor for the development of diabetes as well as complications like coronary artery disease (CAD), nephropathy, retinopathy, and neuropathy. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of suboptimal blood pressure (BP) control, its associated factors, and the choice of antihypertensive drugs among type 2 DM patients at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC).

A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted at the KCMC diabetes clinic from October 2018 to March 2019 among type 2 DM patients with HTN based on the inclusion criteria. Data were collected usiy showed that the use of ACE-I or angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) in the majority of DM patients has a good impact in the control of blood pressure. The early initiation of ACE-I or ARBs among the diabetic patients will improve the optimal BP control.

The aim of this study was to explore the association of 1,5-anhydroglucitol with acute C peptide response (ACPR) to arginine among patients with type 2 diabetes.

Patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital. ACPR was assessed using arginine stimulation test. Decreased
-cell function was defined as ACPR < 2.1. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to demonstrate the association between 1,5-anhydroglucitol and decreased
-cell function.

Finally, 623 patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled into the analysis. Multivariable-adjusted odds ratios for decreased
-cell function across quartiles of 1,5-anhydroglucitol were 1.00, 0.47 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.23-0.99), 0.41 (95% CI 0.20-0.84), and 0.27 (95% CI 0.13-0.57) (

= 0.042), respectively. When 1,5-anhydroglucitol was considered as a continuous variable after logarithm, the corresponding odds ratio was 0.40 (95% CI 0.23-0.71).

To evaluate the diagnostic potential of [-2] proPSA (p2PSA), %p2PSA, Prostate Health Index (phi), and phi density (PHID) as independent biomarkers and in composition of multivariable models in predicting high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) and overall and clinically significant prostate cancer (PCa).

210 males scheduled for prostate biopsy with total PSA (tPSA) range 2-10 ng/mL and normal digital rectal examination were enrolled in the prospective study. Blood samples to measure tPSA, free PSA (fPSA), and p2PSA were collected immediately before 12-core prostate biopsy. Clinically significant PCa definition was based on Epstein's criteria or ISUP grade ≥ 2 at biopsy.

PCa has been diagnosed in 112 (53.3%) patients. Epstein significant and ISUP grade ≥ 2 PCa have been identified in 81 (72.3%) and 40 (35.7%) patients, respectively. Isolated HGPIN at biopsy have been identified in 24 (11.4%) patients. Higher p2PSA and its derivative mean values were associated with PCa. To explore these characteristics, the lumbosacral dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in the chronic constriction injury (CCI) sciatic nerve rat model was studied. Retrograde trace labeling combined with immunofluorescence technology was applied to analyze the distribution of neuropathic nociceptive P2X1-6 receptors. Our results suggest that Fluoro-Gold (FG) retrograde trace labeling is an efficient method for studying lumbosacral DRG neurons in the CCI rat model, especially when the DRG neurons are divided into small, medium, and large subgroups. We found that neuropathic nociceptive lumbosacral DRG neurons (i.e., FG-positive cells) were significantly increased in medium DRG neurons, while they declined in the large DRG neurons in the CCI group. P2X3 receptors were markedly upregulated in medium while P2X2 receptors were significantly decreased in small FG-positive DRG neurons. There were no significant changes in other P2X receptors (including P2X1, P2X4, P2X5, and P2X6). We anticipate that P2X receptors modulate nociceptive sensitivity primarily through P2X3 subtypes that are upregulated in medium neuropathic nociceptive DRG neurons and/or via the downregulation of P2X2 cells in neuropathic nociceptive small DRG neurons.
To investigate the factors influencing brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in an apparently healthy Chinese population, especially the associations between baPWV and indices of blood pressure (BP).

A total of 1123 participants with no history of hypertension were enrolled in this study, and the baPWV and BP of all four limbs were measured along with other covariates. Correlation analyses and multivariate linear regression models were used to identify factors associated with baPWV.

A total of 1123 participants (male 43.3%, mean age 58.4 ± 13.9 years) were included. The average baPWV was 14.87 ± 3.21 m/s, and no difference was found between the sexes. Age was positively correlated with baPWV (
= 0.65,
< 0.01), especially in females (
= 0.71 versus 0.56 in males). The correlation coefficient between age and baPWV increased markedly after the age of 65 years. In addition, the resting heart rate (RHR), waist-hip ratio, glomerular filtration rate, and plasma glucose level were significantly correlated with baPWV (
= 0.25, 0.22, -0.43, and 0.25, respectively;
< 0.01). BP parameters were highly positively correlated with baPWV, especially systolic BP (SBP) and pulse pressure (PP). Multivariate regression revealed that age, BP parameters, and RHR were independently correlated with baPWV (
< 0.01) after adjusting for confounding factors. The standardized coefficients of SBP were greater than those of PP, followed by diastolic BP (DBP).

This pilot study is aimed at investigating the mechanical characteristics of a cast-wrapped fractured forearm and performing a clinical comparative study of our own developed 3D-printed orthopedic cast.

An integrated finite element (FE) model including a forearm and a 3D-printed cast wrapping the forearm was created. The distal radial ulna in this model was cut through to mimic the bone fracture. A 400 N force and 1 Nm rotation moment, which were much larger than the loading conditions encountered in daily life for a human being, were applied on the palm. We conducted a comparative clinical study by using statistical assessment. 60 patients with forearm fractures were selected and treated with manual reduction and external fixation cast. All patients were divided into three groups with equal members (20) (a) 3D-printed external cast group, (b) traditional plaster external fixation group, and (c) splint external fixation group. The clinical efficacy, wrist function, and patient satisfaction were scored andmechanical correction loads on specific areas to maintain optimal alignment of a fractured forearm and thus could achieve the favorable clinical efficacy and patient comfort.
