Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory neurological disease characterized by autoimmune-mediated demyelination of the central nervous system. Genetic and environmental factors may contribute to the development of MS. This has not been confirmed yet. Dental amalgam has long been controversial in MS due to its mercury content but the toxicological implications of mercury-containing amalgam fillings (AMF) for MS remain to be elucidated. We conducted a case-control study to investigate the association between AMF and the risk of MS from the Taiwanese National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). Case (n = 612) and control (n = 612) groups were matched by sex, age, urbanization level, monthly income, and Charlson comorbidity index by propensity score matched with a 11 ratio from 2000 to 2013. Differences between cases and controls was not statistically significant (OR 0.82, 95% CI = 0.65-1.05). In subjects stratified by gender, MS was also not associated with AMF for women (OR 0.743, 95% CI = 0.552-1.000) and men (OR 1.006, 95% CI = 0.670-1.509), respectively. In summary, this Taiwanese nationwide population-based case-control study did not find an association between MS and AMF.BACKGROUND AND METHODS Tumors infiltrating the inferior caval vein (ICV) have been considered irresectable in the past due to high perioperative risks. Consequently, the only treatment option for these patients was best supportive care, which resulted in reduced survival. Advancements in surgical techniques have since evolved, such that combined resections of the ICV and the hepatic malignancy are being performed. The aim of this study was the evaluation of the long-term outcomes (e.g., survival) and short-term risks of this procedure. In this single-center, retrospective cohort study (n = 24), we evaluated surgical and oncological outcome for patients undergoing hepatic surgery for oncological indications in combination with resections of the ICV. In addition, we investigated which factors are associated with survival. RESULTS First, we showed that perioperative mortality is as low as 4.1%. Second, we showed that perioperative co-morbidities are acceptable for this type of advanced hepatobiliary surgery. Third, the reconstruction of the ICV by means of a patch was superior in terms of survival compared to other types of reconstructions. This finding was independent of the type or the aggressiveness of tumor or the resections status. DISCUSSION In our cohort, many patients had undergone (multiple) preceding visceral surgical interventions or underwent multi-visceral surgery. Despite the medical complexity, survival was encouraging in this cohort, offering novel treatment modalities with a low risk of severe morbidities. This paper considers the coherent integration problem for moving target detection using frequency agile (FA) radar, involving range cell migration (RCM) and the nonuniform phase fluctuations among different pulses caused by range-agile frequency (R-AF) coupling and velocity-time-agile frequency (V-T-AF) coupling. After the analysis of the term corresponding to the phase fluctuation caused by V-T-AF coupling, the term can be regarded as related to an equivalent non-uniform slow time, and nonuniform fast Fourier transform (NUFFT) could be the solution. So a fast coherent integration method combining Radon Fourier transform (RFT) and NUFFT based on low-rank approximation, i.e., Radon-NUFFT, is proposed. In this method, the RCM is solved by Radon algorithm via target trajectory searching, the non-uniform phase fluctuation caused by R-AF coupling is compensated by constructing a compensation item corresponding to the range and agile frequency. In addition, the compensation of the non-uniform phase fluctuation caused by V-T-AF coupling is converted into a problem of spectral analysis of non-uniform sampling complex-valued signal, which is solved by the NUFFT based on low rank approximation. Compared with the existing methods, the proposed method can realize the coherent integration for FA radar accurately and quickly. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation experiments. The aim of the study was to specify prevalence and severity of menopausal symptoms among middle-aged women and to understand the factors associated with women's perimenopausal healthcare-seeking behavior in Shanghai, China. A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out involving 3147 participants aged 40-60 years. A combination of stratified sampling and quota sampling was used. Out of the total 16 districts in Shanghai, 7 were purposefully selected in consideration of covering both central and suburban areas, population distribution, and willingness to participate. Two communities were randomly selected in each of six districts. Four communities were randomly selected in the 7th district considering the relatively low coverage of central population in the sampling frame. Eligible women were recruited continuously according to the house number and invited to participate in the study until 200 participants were recruited in each community. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect informatio symptoms was relatively high among middle-aged women, with perimenopausal women showing the highest level. However, only a small percentage of the participants sought healthcare. Carrying out health education may be a measure to improve the healthcare-seeking behavior. In the pathogenesis of hypercalciuria and hyperoxaluria, n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been implicated by virtue of their metabolic links with arachidonic acid (AA) and prostaglandin PGE2. Studies have also shown that n-3 PUFAs, particularly those in fish oil-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-can serve as competitive substrates for AA in the n-6 series and can be incorporated into cell membrane phospholipids in the latter's place, thereby reducing urinary excretions of calcium and oxalate. The present review interrogates several different types of study which address the question of the potential roles played by dietary PUFAs in modulating stone formation. Included among these are human trials that have investigated the effects of dietary PUFA interventions. We identified 16 such trials. Besides fish oil (EPA+DHA), other supplements such as evening primrose oil containing n-6 FAs linoleic acid (LA) and γ-linolenic acid (GLA) were tested. Urinary excretion of calcium or oxalate or both decreased in most trials. However, these decreases were most prominent in the fish oil trials. We recommend the administration of fish oil containing EPA and DHA in the management of calcium oxalate urolithiasis. In Poland there is no data related to the impact of halny wind and the related environmental variables on the incidence of cardiac events. We decided to investigate the relationship between this weather phenomenon, as well as the related environmental variables, and the incidence of cardiac events in the population of southern Poland, a region affected by this type of wind. We also decided to determine whether the environmental changes coincide with or predate the event examined. We analysed data related to 465 patients admitted to the cardiology ward in a large regional hospital during twelve months of 2011 due to acute myocardial infarction. All the patients in the study group lived in areas affected by halny wind and at the time of the event were staying in those areas. The frequency of admissions on halny days did not differ significantly from the admissions on the remaining days of the year (p = 0.496). No statistically significant differences were found between the number of admissions on halny days and on the remaining days during halny months (p = 0.084). We have identified a difference in the number of admissions between days with no halny and days immediately preceding onset of halny (p = 0.001). However, no effects of the related environmental variables have been observed in the incidence of cardiac events (p = 0.866, F = 0.37). On the days with halny wind, incidence of cardiac events is similar to that on the remaining days of the year. The venom of Cupiennius salei is composed of dozens of neurotoxins, with most of them supposed to act on ion channels. Some insecticidal monomeric neurotoxins contain an α-helical part besides their inhibitor cystine knot (ICK) motif (type 1). Other neurotoxins have, besides the ICK motif, an α-helical part of an open loop, resulting in a heterodimeric structure (type 2). Due to their low toxicity, it is difficult to understand the existence of type 2 peptides. Here, we show with the voltage clamp technique in oocytes of Xenopus laevis that a combined application of structural type 1 and type 2 neurotoxins has a much more pronounced cytolytic effect than each of the toxins alone. In biotests with Drosophila melanogaster, the combined effect of both neurotoxins was enhanced by 2 to 3 log units when compared to the components alone. Electrophysiological measurements of a type 2 peptide at 18 ion channel types, expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes, showed no effect. Microscale thermophoresis data indicate a monomeric/heterodimeric peptide complex formation, thus a direct interaction between type 1 and type 2 peptides, leading to cell death. In conclusion, peptide mergers between both neurotoxins are the main cause for the high cytolytic activity of Cupiennius salei venom. The objective of this work is to review literature, worldwide, in which the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) ergonomic assessment method was applied and count the number of times that REBA was applied together with other methods and subsequent incidence. The database used was the "Web of Science-Core Collection". Only scientific articles and bibliographic reviews were included, analysing a total of 314 documents and selecting only 91. The use of the REBA method is indicated in terms of knowledge, country, year and journal sectors. It was most used in the knowledge areas of "Manufacturing" (24.18%), "Agriculture, forestry and fishing" (21.98%) and in "Other activities" (19.78%). One of the benefits of REBA is that it evaluates different body parts upper limbs (arm, forearm and wrist), lower extremities, trunk and neck. It is a useful method to identify the forced postures adopted by workers to thus develop improvement measures if necessary. check details It is concluded that REBA method use has increased over the last decade, probably due to the digitization of knowledge. It is almost always applied in combination with other methods, and its use can be a positive indicator of company sustainability.Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) causes hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome. EHEC infection begins with bacterial adherence to the host intestine via lectin-like adhesins that bind to the intestinal wall. However, EHEC-related lectin-glycan interactions (LGIs) remain unknown. Here, we conducted a genome-wide investigation of putative adhesins to construct an LGI network. We performed microarray-based transcriptomic and proteomic analyses with E. coli EDL933. Using PSORTb-based analysis, potential outer-membrane-embedded adhesins were predicted from the annotated genes of 318 strains. Predicted proteins were classified using TMHMM v2.0, SignalP v5.0, and LipoP v1.0. Functional and protein-protein interaction analyses were performed using InterProScan and String databases, respectively. Structural information of lectin candidate proteins was predicted using Iterative Threading ASSEmbly Refinement (I-TASSER) and Spatial Epitope Prediction of Protein Antigens (SEPPA) tools based on 3D structure and B-cell epitopes.
