Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Depression and anxiety worsen COPD and lead to greater respiratory symptom severity and health care utilization. Fear of physical sensations of anxiety (AS-P) is known to exacerbate respiratory symptoms. The current study investigated the unique contribution of AS-P in respiratory symptom exacerbations, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and COPD-related functional health status, controlling for medical characteristics, depression, and anxiety.

The sample included 535 adults with COPD (M
=56.57; 58.1% male). Participants were recruited from a web-based panel of adults with chronic respiratory disease and completed an online battery of self-report measures.

Consistent with hypotheses, AS-P significantly increased the likelihood of acute symptom exacerbations by 12% and respiratory-related emergency department visits and hospitalizations by 7% during the prior 12month period. Additionally, AS-P demonstrated a unique, large effect (f
=0.37) on COPD-related functional health status.

Fear of physical sensations contributed to worse respiratory outcomes and health care utilization among adults with COPD. Screening for AS-P may effectively identify at-risk COPD patients, while reducing AS-P through targeted interventions may result in decreased symptom severity, functional limitations, and burden on the health care system.

In addition, the linguistic profiles of 50 AWD, 30 AWS and 84 neurotypical adults were measured. We found that 17 out of 50 AWD (34 %) reported stuttering during childhood compared to 1 % of the neurotypical population. This was moderated by the severity of dyslexia People with mild dyslexia showed a lower prevalence rate (15 %) of childhood stuttering than those with severe dyslexia (47 %). In addition, we observed that 50 % of the AWS (n = 30) fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of dyslexia, even though they had never been diagnosed as dyslexic. Compared to neurotypical adults, phonological working memory, awareness, and retrieval were similarly reduced in AWS and AWD. The findings supports the view that stuttering and dyslexia may share a phonological deficit.Copy number variants (CNVs) have been implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders, with rare-inherited and de novo CNVs (dnCNVs) having large effects on disease liability. Recent studies started exploring a class of dnCNVs that occur post-zygotically, and are therefore present in some but not all cells of the body. Analogous to conditional mutations in animal models, the presence of risk mutations in a fraction of cells has the potential to enlighten how damaging mutations affect cell-type/cell-circuit specific pathologies leading to neuropsychiatric manifestations. Divarasib concentration Although mosaic CNVs appear to contribute to a modest fraction of risk (0.3-0.5%), expanding our insights about them with more sensitive experimental and statistical methods, has the potential to help clarify mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disease.Alterations in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), including omega-3 and omega-6, have been implicated in the pathophysiology of psychotic disorders, but little is known about their associations with neuropsychological functioning. The present study includes 46 recent-onset psychosis patients who participated in a larger (n = 50) double blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial comparing 16 weeks of treatment with either risperidone + fish oil (FO) (EPA 740 mg and DHA 400 mg daily) or risperidone + placebo and completed neuropsychological assessments at the baseline timepoint. We investigated the relationship between baseline omega-3 (i.e., eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA; docosapentaenoic acid, DPA and docosahexaenoic acid, DHA) and omega-6 (i.e., arachidonic acid, AA) PUFA with baseline MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) and Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) scores. Twenty-five patients had neuropsychological data available at 16 weeks following participation in the clinical trial, which included 12 patients assigned to risperidone + FO and 13 patients assigned to risperidone + placebo. At baseline both higher DHA and EPA correlated significantly with better social cognition after controlling for functioning on other neuropsychological domains, total BPRS score, AA level and substance use. Also, at baseline higher AA correlated significantly with hostility/uncooperativeness after controlling for DHA + EPA + DPA, overall neuropsychological functioning and substance use. Patients treated with risperidone + FO demonstrated a significant longitudinal increase in social cognition that was significantly higher at 16 weeks compared to patients treated with risperidone + placebo. DHA also correlated significantly with social cognition at the 16-week timepoint. This study provides novel evidence for a differential role of omega-3 vs. omega-6 PUFA in neuropsychological deficits and symptoms in recent-onset psychosis and its treatment.Positive schizotypy has been shown to predict emergence of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, with suspiciousness/paranoia regarded a key risk factor. However, magical thinking and unusual perceptual experiences, other aspects of positive schizotypy, are associated with creativity. We investigated whether suspiciousness attenuates the relationship of magical thinking and unusual experiences with creative experience, and explored the interaction of dispositional mindfulness with positive schizotypy and creative experience. 342 (256 females) healthy adults (mean age 25.9; SD 8.4) completed online self-report measures of schizotypy, creative experience, and dispositional mindfulness. Moderation analysis showed that suspiciousness attenuated the positive relationship of magical thinking (b = -0.29, p = .03) and unusual perceptual experiences (b = -0.23, p = .01) with an aspect of creative experience related to positive affect - power/pleasure. This effect was not present for 4 other aspects of creative experience.
