In Sudan, the first COVID-19 case was reported on 13th March 2020, and up to 11 November 2020 there were 14,401 confirmed cases of which 9,535 cases recovered and the rest 3,750 cases were under treatment. Additionally, 1,116 deaths were reported, indicating a relatively high case fatality rate of 7.7%. Several preventive and control measures were implemented by the government of Sudan and health partners, including the partial lockdown of the country, promoting social distancing, and suspending mass gathering such as festivals and performing religious practices in groups. However, new cases still emerging every day and this could be attributed to the noncompliance of the individuals to the advocated preventive measurements.
COVID-19 pandemic affects human health and the global economy. Its evolution is unpredictable, making it hard for governments to provide response actions suited for all populations. Meanwhile, informal street workers carry on with their labor despite contingency measures to sustain their lives. The objective was to conduct a case-control study to become aware of how street vendors' economy is affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic in a Mexican suburban city. We interviewed informal street vendors (cases) and formal employees (controls).

Before mobility restrictions were in place, population income came 1.5% from formal employment and 23.5% from informal employment (street vendors). Informal employees lived on less than the equivalent of 1.5 Big Macs per day (p <0.001). After the contingency measures, formal employment kept the same, while the informal employment ratio increased to 57.4% (p < 0.001). The street vendors were almost 100-times less likely to be concerned about the coronavirus outbreak (p < 0.001) and were 38-times less likely to stop working compared with the formal workers (p < 0.001).

We have proven that street vendors are a sector of the population that is highly vulnerable to significant economic loss due to contingency measures. Informal workers cannot stop working despite the "Stay at Home" initiative because the government has not implemented strategies that guarantee their survival and their families. Therefore, street vendors continue to be a source of the virus's spread throughout cities.

This study aimed to investigate the experience of physicians in Pakistan as frontline workers for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The study employed a qualitative design and used Haas's adaptation of Colaizzi method for analysis. The respondents for the interview were selected based on purposive sampling and only those physicians were contacted who were treating COVID-19 patients in Lahore, Pakistan. The results of the study revealed many challenges faced by Pakistani physicians which included physical and psychological stress due to the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Moreover, infrastructural flaws have added in the vulnerabilities of the physicians. In developing countries, the fight is much harder for physicians as evidenced by their first-hand experience. The policymakers in developing countries especially in Pakistan can direct policies facilitating physicians to reduce their physical and psychological stress as well as increasing resources for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak has been a global pandemic. Researchers have made great efforts to investigate SARS-CoV-2. However, there are few studies analyzing the general situation of SARS-CoV-2 research at global level. This study aimed to characterize global scientific efforts based on SARS-CoV-2 publications.

SARS-CoV-2 -related publications were retrieved using Web of Science. The number of publications, citation, country, journal, study topic, total confirmed cases, and total deaths were analyzed.

A total of 441 publications were identified. Selleckchem Adezmapimod China contributed the largest number of publications (198, 44.90%), followed by USA (51, 11.56%), Italy (28, 6.35%), Germany (19, 4.31%), and South Korea (13, 2.95%). Upper-middle-income economies (51.70%) produced the most SARS-CoV-2 publications, followed by high-income (45.12%), lower-middle-income (2.95%), and low-income economies (0.23%). The research output had a significant correlations with total confirmed caseput in the field of SARS-CoV-2. China was the most prolific country, and had the highest quality of publications on SARS-CoV-2.The rapid emergence of bacterial resistance worldwide is a serious problem, leading to many therapeutic failures and rendering inactive effective antibiotics currently used . This problem has recently been accelerated by conflicts and its related migration. The antibiotic resistance phenomenon is diffused in Syria with a high rate of multi drug resistance cases in gram negative and gram positive organisms during and after the Syrian crisis as a result of misprescribing and overprescribing of antibiotics. The inappropriate use of antibiotic plays an important role in resistance generation. Hence, big efforts are urgently needed by using phenotypic and genetic analysis of bacterial strains against antibiotics to increase characterization and identification of mutant resistant strains and find new strategies to control the spread of antimicrobial resistance infections. This review highlights the antibacterial resistance problem in Syria, showing its negative impact and presenting a sum of efforts that are urgently needed to overcome this problem.Targeted lipid nanobubbles as theranostic ultrasound molecular probes with both targeted contrast-enhanced ultrasound molecular imaging and synergistic treatment capabilities are expected to overcome severe challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of refractory triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). In this study, AS1411 aptamer-functionalised nucleolin-targeted doxorubicin-loaded lipid nanobubbles (AS1411-DOX-NBs) were constructed, and their physicochemical properties as well as anti-tumour and cardioprotective efficacies were systematically tested and evaluated. The results showed that AS1411-DOX-NBs can carry and maintain the physicochemical and pharmacodynamic properties of doxorubicin (DOX) and show stronger tumour cell-killing ability in vitro by increasing the active uptake of drugs. AS1411-DOX-NBs also significantly inhibited the growth of TNBC xenografts while maintaining the weight and health of the mice. Echocardiography and pathological examination further confirmed that AS1411-DOX-NBs effectively caused tumour tissue apoptosis and necrosis while reducing DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. The AS1411-DOX-NBs constructed in this study enable both targeted contrast-enhanced ultrasound molecular imaging and synergistic therapeutic efficacy and can be used as safe and efficient theranostic ultrasound molecular probes for the diagnosis and treatment of TNBC.Herein, first-principles calculations were employed to study the electronic, topological, and superconducting properties of InTaX2(X = S, Se). InTaX2exhibits nodal lines in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC); on SOC inclusion, the nodal lines form Weyl rings with the Weyl points classified as a type-II Weyl semimetal (WSM) with tilted cones. Using Green functions method calculations, surface states distinguishable from the bulk states, and Fermi arcs surface states were visualized on the (001) easily cleavable indium terminated surface of both materials. link2 The electron-phonon calculations using the Allen-Dynes relations predict InTaSe2and InTaS2to be superconducting around 2.38 K and 3.25 K. The prediction of these exotic properties in InTaX2(X = S, Se) makes them suitable for experimental validation of topological superconductivity in type-II WSMs.In the Hamiltonian adaptive resolution simulation method (H-AdResS) it is possible to simulate coexisting atomistic (AT) and ideal gas representations of a physical system that belong to different subdomains within the simulation box. The Hamiltonian includes a field that bridges both models by smoothly switching on (off) the intermolecular potential as particles enter (leave) the AT region. In practice, external one-body forces are calculated and applied to enforce a reference density throughout the simulation box, and the resulting external potential adds up to the Hamiltonian. This procedure suggests an apparent dependence of the final Hamiltonian on the system's thermodynamic state that challenges the method's statistical mechanics consistency. In this paper, we explicitly include an external potential that depends on the switching function. Hence, we build a grand canonical potential for this inhomogeneous system to find the equivalence between H-AdResS and density functional theory (DFT). We thus verify that the external potential inducing a constant density profile is equal to the system's excess chemical potential. Given DFT's one-to-one correspondence between external potential and equilibrium density, we find that a Hamiltonian description of the system is compatible with the numerical implementation based on enforcing the reference density across the simulation box. link3 In the second part of the manuscript, we focus on assessing our approach's convergence and computing efficiency concerning various model parameters, including sample size and solute concentrations. To this aim, we compute the excess chemical potential of water, aqueous urea solutions and Lennard-Jones (LJ) mixtures. The results' convergence and accuracy are convincing in all cases, thus emphasising the method's robustness and capabilities.Gd2O31% Er3+, 18% Yb3+, x% Mg2+(x = 0; 2.5; 4; 5; 6; 8;10; 20; 25; 50) and Gd2O31% Er3+, 18% Yb3+, 2,5% Mg2+, y% Li+(y = 0.5 - 2.5) nanoparticles were synthesized by homogenous precipitation method and calcined at 900oC for 3 h in air atmosphere. Powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and photoluminescence techniques were employed to characterize the obtained nanoparticles. We observed a 8-fold increase in red luminescence for samples suspended in DMSO solution for 2.5% of Mg2+doping. The X-ray analysis shows that for the concentration of 2.5% Mg, the size of the crystallites in the NPs is the largest, which is mainly responsible for the increase in the intensity of the upconversion luminescence. But the addition of Li+ ions did not improve the luminescence of the upconversion due to decreasing of crystallites size of the NPs. Synthesized nanomaterials with very effective upconverting luminescence, can act as luminescent markers in in vivo imaging.
