3 Wheel Compact Stroller Review
There are three-wheel strollers that fit all ages whether you're looking for a jogging stroller or a stroller for all-purpose use on a daily basis. The Managing Editor Sentry and Senior Review Writer Wendy Schmitz put these models through their paces on pavement and off-road surfaces as well as assessing the comfort of children in the seats.
Stroller Features
The best strollers have features that make traveling with your child easier. Look for features that simplify life, such as a large bin for storage, a tray for parents with cup holders, a movable canopy, and more, when shopping for the latest stroller. It's important to determine the features that are important to you and your family and those you can live without.
BOB Gear Wayfinder is our top-rated stroller for running. It has many useful features that will keep parents comfortable and happy. The handlebar adjusts to three different positions to accommodate caregivers of different sizes and the wrist strap can help ensure that the stroller won't roll away when you're running. The Wayfinder also comes with the largest sunshade that we tested, with a clear window at the top to let children observe the world while they rest. Jenni's 3-year-old daughter found the seat to be comfortably padded, so bumps in the road won't cause him to shake.
This jogging stoller comes with an automatic handbrake that helps you maintain control on slippery surfaces. 3 wheel pushchair Pushchairs And Prams can fold into a compact, slim package that takes up little space in your car's trunk. It is also possible to convert it into an entire travel system by buying an adapter. It can also be used with the Uppababy Mesa V2 bassinet.
If you're planning to tackle rough terrains, solid tires are a must for strollers of all kinds. While they don't provide the same degree of comfort as air-filled or foam-filled tires, they're ideal for navigating potholes and bumps effortlessly.
This stroller is a jogging model and comes with a fold that requires just two steps. It locks into position when folded, and is compact enough to fit into the majority of elevators. It's not as easy as our other four-wheel strollers, and the locking mechanism can be a little difficult to understand. It requires pressing a button on the front of the stroller, a flap that is located near the foot area, and lifting the handle. We'd like to see a simpler system that clicks into place or opens when pulled.
Stroller Weight
The overall weight of a stroller is a significant factor to consider. A heavier stroller is more stable and can perform better on uneven terrain. Many parents find that a stroller with a lighter weight is more maneuverable, and more suitable for day-to-day use.
The type and size of the wheels is an important aspect. Some strollers, such as jogging strollers, have larger wheels that can offer a more comfortable experience for infants. However, larger wheels also add to the overall weight of the stroller, which makes it more difficult to fold, transport, and store.
Some models in our selection have air-filled tires that are designed to provide a comfortable and stable ride for your child, even on rough terrain. However, air-filled tires can easily get flat which will require you to change them out. If you are planning to travel a lot with your stroller, we recommend the use of tires that can withstand regular contact with various surfaces and last for a longer time.
Strollers with swivel wheel on the front are perfect for safely navigating escalators and stairs. Falls on escalators or stairs are the most frequent accidents involving strollers, and can be particularly hazardous for infants. If you can't avoid using an escalator or stairs with your stroller, we recommend that you only use it when your child is secured in the seat. Also ensure that they are close to you while you walk up or down.
Some strollers come as a travel system which includes both the car seat and the stroller. These are typically more expensive and less convenient than their stand-alone counterparts and they may not be as effective in the long term. Additionally, many parents later regret purchasing a bundle because it may not come with all the features they would like or could turn out to not be compatible with their vehicle or child's seat. If you plan to upgrade your product in the future we recommend you buy a stroller separate from car seats or capsules.
Stroller Folding
The top 3 wheel compact strollers fold quickly and easily to make storage and transport a breeze. Some even lock into position automatically when you open them. This feature can be especially beneficial for families who regularly take public transportation or drive prior to going for a a walk.
Three-wheel strollers are designed to navigate through tight spaces such as aisles in grocery stores and other crowded areas with ease. A lot of them are equipped with suspension systems for a smoother ride, which is especially useful on bumpy sidewalks.
The Guava Roam is a compact jogging stroller. The stroller is a stylish stroller that can also be used as part of a travel system, with adapters for car seats to fit Nuna, MaxiCosi, Cybex, and Nuna infant carseats, as well as the Uppababy Bassinet. (Car seats and stroller boards sold separately). The stroller features an easy two-step fold that locks into place once opened.
A similar stroller with a nice design is the Babyzen Yoyo 2. This stroller is a little more expensive than our top choices, but is worth it if you travel often or live in the city. This stroller is lightweight and can be folded down to a small 20 17x7 inch size. It comes with five-point, no-rethread padded harness. It can be used as a stroller for newborns and young toddlers with an adapter for infant car seats.
The Babyzen is a great product with some nice features. It offers a large recline, and also has extra storage. However there are some parents who are dissatisfied with its performance. The seat isn't completely flat when reclined and there's no cup holders or a tray for snacks for kids. The brakes can also be a little difficult to engage and the handlebars can be too high for some moms.
The Graco Fastaction is another stroller that's designed to be as light as possible without sacrificing comfort or convenience. It has a long list of impressive features, such as a large basket and a one handed fold. The only issue is that the brakes may be a bit difficult to engage and do not stay locked when the stroller is folded.
Stroller Safety
The safety features of a stroller will ensure your child's safety while using it. Some of the best-scoring strollers we've reviewed have five-point safety harnesses with adjustable and padded crotch straps. This allows for a customised fit. Some strollers have a padded cushion that shields your child's head if they roll off or fall out of their seat. Some strollers feature safety brakes that lock two wheels. This is especially important for strollers that jog because it prevents them from flipping over when they're going down escalators or stairs, which can be particularly risky for children.
In our tests, strollers' maneuverability was evaluated in three distinct ways. We scored it on the basis of a stroller's ability to turn and bounce when bumps and dips occur, its ease of use with a child in it and its ability to travel over rough terrain. We also looked at how easy it was to open and close the safety harness fold and unfold the stroller, adjust the backrest and handlebar height and brakes and then attach and remove car seats (if necessary).
We found that 3-wheel strollers were easier to maneuver however, the advantages decreased as the weight of the baby increased. We recommend selecting the model that has a hand brake. It will allow you to slow down or stop without putting in as much effort as using your body by itself. Many of the top-scoring, swivel-wheel strollers don't have this option. Only one of our best-rated fixed-wheel strollers comes with it.
It is important to think about how often you'll need to use your stroller for going up or down escalators or stairs and if it's safe to do this. Escalators and stairs present more dangers because they move mechanical parts that make it difficult to control the motion of the stroller. If you are able choose to, we suggest using an elevator or having a second adult assist you with the stroller. Some of the best-rated strollers can be taken up or down a set of stairs with the safety brake activated. It's always safer to be secure than sorry.
