4%) participants developed incident CKD and 303 (8.4%) developed microalbuminuria. For every doubling of plasma dp-ucMGP, hazard ratios for the development of incident CKD and microalbuminuria were 1.85 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.59-2.16; P < 0.001] and 1.19 (95% CI 1.07-1.32; P = 0.001), respectively. These associations lost significance after adjustment for baseline eGFRSCr-SCys [0.99 (95% CI 0.88-1.12; P = 0.86)] and baseline age [1.03 (95% CI 0.94-1.14; P = 0.50)], respectively.
The associations of plasma dp-ucMGP with incident CKD and microalbuminuria were driven by the respective baseline effects of renal function and age.

Low birthweight (LBW) has been shown to increase the risk of severe kidney disease. Studies have also shown associations between LBW and lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in young adults. In this study we investigated whether LBW associates with measured GFR (mGFR) in middle-aged mainly healthy adults.
We invited individuals with LBW (1100-2300 g) and individuals with normal BW (NBW; 3500-4000 g) ages 41-52 years. GFR was measured using plasma clearance of iohexol. BW and BW for gestational age (BWGA) were obtained from the Medical Birth Registry of Norway and tested as main predictors. GFR was the main outcome.
We included 105 individuals (57 LBW and 48 NBW). The mean GFR was 95 ± 14 mL/min/1.73 m2 in the LBW group and 100 ± 13 mL/min/1.73 m2 in the NBW group (P = 0.04). There was a significant sex difference in women the mean GFR was 90 ± 12 versus 101 ± 14 mL/min/1.73 m2 in the LBW and NBW groups, respectively (P = 0.006), whereas corresponding values for men were 101 ± 15 versus 100 ± 11 mL/min/1.73 m2 (P = 0.7). Using linear regression, we found the GFR was 4.5 mL/min/1.73 m2 higher per 1 kg higher BW for women (P = 0.02), with a non-significant 1.2 mL/min/1.73 m2 lower GFR for men (P = 0.6). In analyses of BWGA, there was also a significant association for women, but not for men.
Middle-aged mainly healthy women with LBW had lower mGFR as compared with women with NBW. No such difference was found for men.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has forced health-care providers to find creative ways to allow continuity of care in times of lockdown. Telemedicine enables provision of care when in-person visits are not possible. Sheba Medical Center made a rapid transition of outpatient clinics to video consultations (VC) during the first wave of COVID-19 in Israel.
Results of a survey of patient and clinician user experience with VC are reported.
Satisfaction surveys were sent by text messages to patients, clinicians who practice VC (users) and clinicians who do not practice VC (non-users). Questions referred to general satisfaction, ease of use, technical issues and medical and communication quality. Questions and scales were based on surveys used regularly in outpatient clinics of Sheba Medical Center.
More than 1200 clinicians (physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, dietitians, speech therapists, genetic consultants and others) provided VC during the study period. Five hundred and nical and administrative challenges related to the newly implemented telemedicine platform. Our findings support the continued future use of VC as a means of providing patient-centered care. Future steps need to be taken to continuously improve the clinical and administrative application of telemedicine services.
Our study reports high levels of patient satisfaction from outpatient clinics VC during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lower levels of clinician satisfaction can mostly be attributed to technical and administrative challenges related to the newly implemented telemedicine platform. Our findings support the continued future use of VC as a means of providing patient-centered care. Future steps need to be taken to continuously improve the clinical and administrative application of telemedicine services.During World War I, the 1918 influenza pandemic struck the fatigued combat troops serving on the Western Front. Medical treatment options were limited; thus, skilled military nursing care was the primary therapy and the best indicator of patient outcomes. This article examines the military nursing's role in the care of the soldiers during the 1918 flu pandemic and compares this to the 2019 coronavirus pandemic.Spectroscopic techniques combined with chemometrics are a promising tool for analysis of seized drug powders. In this study, the performance of three spectroscopic techniques [Mid-InfraRed (MIR), Raman and Near-InfraRed (NIR)] was compared. In total, 364 seized powders were analyzed and consisted of 276 cocaine powders (with concentrations ranging from 4 to 99 w%) and 88 powders without cocaine. A classification model (using Support Vector Machines [SVM] discriminant analysis) and a quantification model (using SVM regression) were constructed with each spectral dataset in order to discriminate cocaine powders from other powders and quantify cocaine in powders classified as cocaine positive. The performances of the models were compared with gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography with flame-ionization detection (GC-FID). Tacrolimus Different evaluation criteria were used number of false negatives (FNs), number of false positives (FPs), accuracy, root mean square error of cross-valrkload for confirmation analysis (e.g., chromatography based) and therefore save time and resources.Fentanyl and its analogues are highly abused drugs that dominate the illicit drug trade. alpha-Methylfentanyl (A-F) and beta-hydroxyfentanyl (B-F) are two fentanyl analogues that require the development of rapid detection technologies. The current study established and validated a rapid and high-sensitivity liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) method to measure A-F and B-F concentrations in rat plasma following intravenous drug administration (20 μg/kg). Because fentanyl is primarily metabolized by the liver, we evaluated the concentrations of A-F and B-F in vivo in rats, in a control group and a group with liver damage induced by 55 days of oral ethanol gavage (6.5 g/kg, 22.5% v/v). Liquid-liquid extraction and LC-MS-MS operating in the positive ion multiple reaction monitoring mode were used. A C18 column was used, and the mobile phase consisted of 0.1% formic acid aqueous and acetonitrile. The limit of detection was 3 pg/mL (S/N > 5) for A-F and B-F. The calibration curves were linear within the concentration range of 0.
