Small bowel obstructions (SBOs) are common following a large intra-abdominal operation; however, SBOs caused by bezoars are unreported in patients following liver-kidney transplantation procedures, particularly in adults.

A 65-year-old Caucasian female presented with nausea and nonbilious emesis during her postoperative course following a simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation. She developed worsening nausea and vomiting with significant abdominal distension and obstipation. Computed tomography imaging showed a marked abnormal dilation of multiple small bowel loops with a distinct transition point that was suggestive of a small bowel obstruction. An exploratory laparotomy revealed a foreign body in the intestinal track approximately 30 cm from the ileocecal valve. The foreign body was extracted and identified as a bezoar with hair follicles and old digestive contents. Following the operation, the patient demonstrated rapid clinical improvement with resolution of nausea, emesis, and progress in bowel motility.

Pembrolizumab is an anti-programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1) that was shown to have a tolerable safety profile with 17% of grade 3-4 drug-related adverse events, notable response rate of 16% with median duration of response of 8 mo, and median overall survival of 8 mo. Severe mucositis is a very rare complication with only two cases of grade 4 mucositis reported, and both cases had good response to intravenous methylprednisolone and subsequent oral prednisone tapering. We report the first case of pembrolizumab-induced severe mucositis that was refractory to steroid treatment.

An 80-year-old woman with a past medical history of recurrent right cheek nodular melanoma status post resection and new right lung metastatic melanoma on immunotherapy presented with dysphagia and odynophagia for 2 mo. She initially received 2 doses of ipilimumab 1 year ago with good outcome, but treatment was discontinued after developing severe diarrhea and rash. Pembrolizumab was then initiated 4 mo after disease progression. Signplete response after receiving two doses of infliximab while continuing to be on tapering steroids. The success of infliximab in this patient with pembrolizumab-induced severe mucositis presents a potentially safe approach to reduce prolonged steroid course and accelerate recovery in managing this rare complication.

Epidermolytic acanthoma (EA) is a rare benign skin lesion, usually found in the genital area of men and women, with epidermolytic hyperkeratosis as its distinguishing histologic characteristic. It is commonly misdiagnosed as condyloma accuminatum, verruca, and seborrheic keratosis. Since this lesion is benign, treatment is not necessary. However, it is often misdiagnosed, and patients are likely to undergo incorrect counseling and unnecessary treatment, causing undue burden to the patient. This study seeks to increase awareness of this rare condition to prevent future misdiagnoses.

A 55-year-old man living with human immunodeficiency virus presented for anal cancer screening. His physical examination revealed a flesh colored papule at the anal margin. The initial differential diagnosis included molluscum contagiosum, anal condyloma, and basal cell carcinoma. The lesion was excised to obtain a definitive diagnosis and was discovered to be EA.

A previously healthy 22-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and jaundice. She had a reagent antinuclear factor (1640, with a homogeneous nuclear pattern) and hypergammaglobulinemia (2.16 g/dL). Anti-smooth muscle, anti-mitochondrial and anti-liver-kidney microsomal antibody type 1 antibodies were negative. Magnetic resonance cholangiography showed a cirrhotic liver with multiple focal areas of strictures of the intrahepatic bile ducts, with associated dilations. Liver biopsy demonstrated periportal necroinflammatory activity, plasmocyte infiltration and advanced fibrosis. Colonoscopy showed ulcerative pancolitis and mild activity (Mayo score 1), with a spared rectum. Treatment with corticosteroids, azathioprine, ursodeoxycholic acid and mesalamine was initiated, with improvement in laboratory tests. The patient was referred for a liver transplantation evaluation.

To report the case of a female patient with autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) overlap syndrome associated wdisease. Of these, 27.6% were cases of Crohn's disease, 68% of ulcerative colitis, and 6.4% of indeterminate colitis. Most patients were treated with steroids. All-cause mortality was 3.7%.

Lung cancer is a clinical disease with multiple malignant tumors. Currently, it is difficult for patients to benefit from routine clinical nursing due to the lack of a pertinent and systematic approach.

From January 2018 to December 2019, 92 patients with lung cancer were selected and divided into the study group and the control group; there were 46 patients in each group. Negative emotions before and after the intervention, the self-management ability score after the intervention, family care burden after the intervention and nursing satisfaction after the intervention were measured in the two groups.

To investigate the effect of intratympanic dexamethasone injection in the treatment of pregnant patients with SSNHL.

A retrospective chart review was made for the period between June 2017 and August 2019 at our Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Pregnant women who met the criteria for SSNHL were included and grouped based on the therapeutic modalities. The treatment group received intratympanic dexamethasone (2.5 mg) q.o.d. for a total of four times, while the control group received no medication other than bed rest and medical observations. All the patients were under close care of obstetricians. Pure-tone audiograms were performed before and after treatment.
