Moreover, ODH was more efficient with regard to bacteria growth inhibition but also more cytotoxic in terms of reduction of cell viability. ODH is deemed more appropriate for application in a dental resin-based drug delivery system, because of the more persistent drug release than seen for CHX.Bifacial solar cells hold the potential to achieve a higher power output per unit area than conventional monofacial devices without significantly increasing manufacturing costs. However, efficient bifacial designs are challenging to implement in inorganic thin-film solar cells because of their short carrier lifetimes and high rear surface recombination. The emergence of perovskite photovoltaic (PV) technology creates a golden opportunity to realize efficient bifacial thin-film solar cells, owing to their outstanding optoelectronic properties and unique features of device physics. More importantly, transparent conducting oxide electrodes can prevent electrode corrosion by halide ions, mitigating one major instability issue of the perovskite devices. Here, the theory of bifacial PV devices is summarized and the advantages of bifacial perovskite solar cells, such as high power output, enhanced device durability, and low economic and environmental costs, are reviewed. The limitations and challenges for bifacial perovskite solar cells are also discussed. Finally, the awareness of bifacial solar cells as a feasible commercialization pathway of perovskite PV for mainstream solar power generation and building-integrated PV is advocated and future research directions are suggested.Due to the poor mechanical properties of many hydrogel bioinks, conventional 3D extrusion bioprinting is usually conducted based on the X-Y plane, where the deposited layers are stacked in the Z-direction with or without the support of prior layers. Herein, a technique is reported, taking advantage of a cryoprotective bioink to enable direct extrusion bioprinting in the vertical direction in the presence of cells, using a freezing plate with precise temperature control. Of interest, vertical 3D cryo-bioprinting concurrently allows the user to create freestanding filamentous constructs containing interconnected, anisotropic microchannels featuring gradient sizes aligned in the vertical direction, also associated with enhanced mechanical performances. Skeletal myoblasts within the 3D-cryo-bioprinted hydrogel constructs show enhanced cell viability, spreading, and alignment, compared to the same cells in the standard hydrogel constructs. This method is further extended to a multimaterial format, finding potential applications in interface tissue engineering, such as creation of the muscle-tendon unit and the muscle-microvascular unit. The unique vertical 3D cryo-bioprinting technique presented here suggests improvements in robustness and versatility to engineer certain tissue types especially those anisotropic in nature, and may extend broad utilities in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, drug discovery, and personalized therapeutics.Tufted astrocytes are one of the core histopathological features of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). To our knowledge, only three cases of multiple system atrophy (MSA) with PSP pathology have been reported. Here, we report two autopsy cases of MSA associated with the appearance of tufted astrocyte-like glia (TuALG). Clinically, the patients' symptoms were atypical of MSA; one showed vertical gaze palsy, and the other was a long-term survivor who progressed to a bedridden state shortly after the onset of the disease. These neuropathological observations were characterized by the copresence of MSA-specific changes and TuALG in some of the cerebral cortices but few or none of the other PSP tau pathologies. These cases might emphasize the significance of TuALG in non-PSP neurodegenerative disorders.
Tactile perception is an essential function of skin. As this research involves many fields, such as skin friction, psychology, and neuroscience, the achievement tactile perception is scattered in various fields with different research methods. Therefore, it is necessary to study the whole tactile loop in a multimodal way, synchronizing all tactile information.

To measure information from touch to haptics, we developed a specially designed measuring platform connecting to an electroencephalogram (EEG) recording system. Sandpapers with different roughness were used as samples. First, the surface properties were measured in tribological experiments. Selleck CP-690550 Second, psychophysical experiments were conducted to assess the volunteers' cognition of samples' roughness. Third, the mechanical parameters and EEG were measured at the same time during fingertip sliding on samples. Then, the data of all four tactile elements were processed and analyzed separately. The characteristic features were extracted from those data in the time-frequency domain. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient was calculated in the pairwise comparison of each element to evaluate the feasibility of the multimodal method in the study of tactile perception.

The 600-mesh sandpaper has the largest Ra, Rz, Rsm, and particle size. The normal load, friction force, spectral centroid, and α- and β-wave energy ratios of EEG at chosen electrodes have significant differences and correlations between 3000- and 600-mesh sandpaper in general.

This multimodal method could be used in the study of tactile perception, which is a comprehensive way to observe the whole tactile loop from multiple perspectives.

There is still a lack of health indicators for monitoring and evaluating health planning at the local level. In Portugal, local health plans (LHP) include a prioritized set of health priorities, which should be monitored and evaluated. This study is an example of a low-resource method to identify and reuse indicators for LHP monitoring and evaluation already collected for other purposes.

A modified Delphi consensus method was applied, with three rounds of email rating questionnaires and a final meeting, between January 2018 and January 2019. The Delphi panel consisted of eight members from the Planning and Administration Group of the Espinho/Gaia Local Public Health Unit.

Panelists were asked to assess the indicators' validity for monitoring diseases/determinants from a pre-selected list of potential binomials between 140 PHC indicators and 15 diseases/determinants.

After four rounds, there was consensus in considering 141 binomials (34.0%) as appropriate, diabetes mellitus being the disease with more appropriate indicators.

This study portrays the applicability of a commonly used, easy and low-resource method in a Portuguese Local Public Health Unit to select and reuse primary health care indicators for LHP monitoring and evaluation.

Sarcopenia is increasingly being recognized as a negative prognostic factor in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). We associate a sarcopenia biomarker measured radiographically from computed tomography (CT) of the neck to postoperative adverse events in patients with operable HNC.

A prospective cohort of treatment-naïve HNC patients undergoing surgery with microvascular reconstruction was performed. Cervical paraspinal skeletal muscle index (CPSMI) was calculated using preoperative CT neck imaging and adjusted for height and sex. Postoperative adverse events, including Clavien-Dindo Grade 3+ complications and fistula, were recorded within 30-days of the index surgery. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between CPSMI and postoperative complications. The modified frailty index (mFI) and Risk Assessment Index (RAI) were compared with CPSMI outcomes.

A total of 127 patients with mucosal HNC were included in the study. The mean age was 60.5 years, and 87 (68.5%) patients were male. Sixty Clavien-Dindo grade 3+ events occurred; 17 patients developed an oro/pharyngocutaneous fistula. Low CPSMI was independently associated with Clavien-Dindo Grade 3+ events (OR 2.80, 95% CI of 1.18-6.99) and fistula (OR of 6.10, 95% CI of 1.53-24.3) when adjusted for multiple factors. CPSMI outperformed the mFI and RAI frailty indices to predict postoperative adverse events (p < .05).

Low CPSMI is independently associated with postoperative adverse events and outperforms current frailty indices inoperable HNC with microvascular reconstruction.

The dual origin of the circumflex artery from the main stem of the left coronary artery is rare variation of normal coronary, which is not reported in previous literature. We report a case of old man with the dual origin of the circumflex artery from the main stem of the left coronary artery.

A 58-year-old man presented with chest pain and dyspnea. The echocardiogram and Laboratory examination are no obvious abnormalities. He was referred to coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). The CCTA showed the proximal circumflex artery forming a Y-shaped bifurcation with the dual origin of the main stem of the left coronary artery.

The dual origin of the circumflex artery is extremely rare variation of normal coronary. Though catheter angiography may be performed for preoperative identification of various coronary artery, it is limited in the description of the relationship of the coronary arteries to the cardiac structures and great vessels. CCTA can help in noninvasive characterization of coronary anomalies with respect to their origin, course, and spatial relations. The preoperative findings of various coronary artery are very important for achieving an accurate diagnosis and formulating the appropriate procedural planning and intraprocedural management.

Biofilm formation involves dynamic production of macromolecules that contribute to the structure of the biofilm over time. Limitations to clinically relevant and translational biofilm visualization and measurement hamper advances in this area of research. In this paper, we present a multimodal methodology for improved characterization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa grown on polyether ether ketone (PEEK) as a model for ODRI. PEEK discs were inoculated with P. aeruginosa, incubated for 4-48 h time intervals, and fixed with 10% neutral-buffered formalin. Samples were stained with fluorescent dyes to measure biofilm components, imaged with confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and quantified. link2 We were able to visualize and quantify P. link3 aeruginosa biofilm growth on PEEK implants over 48 h. Based on imaging data, we propose a generalized growth cycle that can inform orthopedic diagnostic and treatment for this pathogen on PEEK.
