Current research largely focusses on HAIs in patients, with limited attention given to infectious organisms that MRS professionals are exposed to. This is a significant gap that this systematic review seeks to address by summarizing current literature to determine the infectious organisms within MRS departments, their reservoirs, and transmission modes. Reporting of this systematic review follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines. Five databases were searched (Scopus, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL)) for relevant studies published between 1983 and 2018. Quality assessment was performed using checklists from the Johanna Briggs Institute. Nineteen studies were included in the review; twelve of which were set in diagnostic radiography departments, two in radiotherapy departments, and five in non-MRS departments. No studies were set in nuclear medicine departments, indicating a gap in the available literature. A total of 19 genera of infectious organisms were identified in the literature, with Staphylococcus, Escherichia, Bacillus, and Corynebacterium reported in all MRS departments. Infectious organisms were identified in all observational studies, indicating a need for better infection control methods and/or compliance training within MRS to minimize the risk of infections.Respiratory muscle weakness, frequently observed in patients with heart failure (HF), is reported as a predictor for poor prognosis. Although increased respiratory muscle strength ameliorates exercise tolerance and quality of life in HF patients, the relationship between changes in respiratory muscle strength and patient prognosis remains unclear. A total of 456 patients with HF who continued a 5-month cardiac rehabilitation (CR) were studied. We measured maximal inspiratory pressure (PImax) at hospital discharge as the baseline and five months thereafter to assess the respiratory muscle strength. Changes in PImax during the 5-month observation period (⊿PImax) were examined. We investigated the composite multiple incidence of all-cause death or unplanned readmission after 5-month CR. The relationship between ⊿PImax and the incidence of clinical events was analyzed. Over a median follow-up of 1.8 years, 221 deaths or readmissions occurred, and their rate of incidence was 4.3/100 person-years. We hypothesized that elevated lactate levels correlate with prothrombotic fibrin clot properties and enhanced neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation in acute PE. METHODS As many as 126 normotensive acute PE patients (aged 58 ± 14 years) were enrolled. Plasma fibrin clot permeability (Ks), clot lysis time (CLT), endogenous thrombin potential (ETP), citrullinated histone H3 (citH3), and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 antigen (PAI-1), together with plasma L-lactate levels were evaluated on admission. RESULTS Lactate levels ≥2 mM were found in 70 (55.6%) patients in whom we observed 29% higher neutrophil count and 45% elevated plasma citH3 levels. Elevated lactate levels were associated with more prothrombotic fibrin properties as reflected by 11% reduced Ks, 13% longer CLT, along with 11% increased ETP. Lactate levels were positively associated with plasma citH3 concentrations, ETP, CLT, and PAI-1 (p less then 0.05). An increase of lactate levels by 1 mM leading to the prolongation of CLT by 8.82 minutes was shown in the linear regression. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest a new mechanism contributing to a negative impact of elevated lactate levels on prognosis in acute PE patients, in particular hypofibrinolysis, associated with enhanced NET formation.In order to minimize the pollution caused by the reuse of textile dyes, technologies and materials have been developed that purify waste water in an efficient and cost-effective manner before it is discharged into a water body. The first type combines cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) and carboxymethylated cellulose (CMC) using the solvent casting process and an esterification coupling reaction, while the second type uses commercial bacterial cellulose (BC) in a native and sodium periodate-treated form (BCox). The corresponding membranes were comprehensively evaluated by means of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy. Results confirm the esterification process within the CNF/CMC membranes, as well as BC oxidation after periodate treatment, as shown by bands at 1726.2 cm-1 and 895 cm-1, respectively.
