Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds provide drama to children's rooms and provide an excitement. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to hold books or a reading lamp in each sleeping nook to make bunk beds more appealing to children.
A lot of our bunk beds for kids can be made into two twin beds. This is ideal when you plan to move them into their own bedroom at some point. Choose from finishes like brushed gray, cream white and rich walnut.
Stairs or ladders
When choosing kids beds bunk, you have the option to select between stairs or ladders. Ladders can be easily installed and are also less expensive. They also provide an easy way to climb into the top bunk bed. They are also considered to be safer than staircases, as they have a wider area for children to step on and a handrail built-in. Ladders also tend to have grooves on the steps which prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
If you prefer the look and design of stairs, they may be a more elegant addition to your bunk bed. Staircases are also ideal for rooms that are small on space, as they don't extend into the space like ladders do. They are usually constructed of metal or wood and can be a great match for various styles of bedrooms. Some staircases are even equipped with storage drawers. These are a great way to add more space to the bunk bed.
Another thing to take into consideration when deciding between stairs or a ladder is the age of your child. It is recommended that nobody sleep on the top bunk under the age of 6, children who are comfortable climbing vertically might be better off using stairs than a ladder. In addition, if you're planning on using your bunk bed as guest beds for smaller children or adults who have limited mobility, stairs are the preferred choice.
A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bunk requires at least 95" of space on each side. If you don't have enough space, you can choose an u-shaped staircase that doesn't require as much room but allows you to reach the top bunk safely and safely. Certain beds offer the option of distancing the stairs when they're not in use, which further reduces their footprint and makes them more versatile for multipurpose rooms. You can also find staircases that connect to the bottom of the bed, which eliminates the need for a separate handrail, and makes it easier for children to climb up and down.
Guard Rails
Guard rails allow kids to climb into and out of their beds independently and give them an experience of independence and confidence. But they must be positioned properly, ensuring that there aren't any gaps or loosening occurs between the guard rails and the bed frame. If you choose to use guard rails, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and check them regularly for any looseness or holes that could potentially lead to entrapment.
Keep bunk beds away from electrical appliances and other things that could become projectiles when your children are playing or sleeping. Position bunk beds away from windows to prevent the risk of falling if your children get up on the upper level.
One safety feature you might want to consider is a night lighting for the ladder; this can aid in illuminating the path and down in the event that kids awake at night and need to go to the bathroom, or wake up during a storm and need to get from their bedroom in a safe manner.
A safety net can be installed on the top of the bunk to stop children from falling out while they sleep or play. This is a great idea, especially for older children, who tend to sleep on the top bunk.
Guardrails must be securely attached to the bunk bed's structure and must not be removable without the use of tools. The openings in the guardrails that are above the mattress foundation must not be greater than 3.5 inches to avoid strangulation and entrapment. Place the wedge block as shown in Figure 1 in each opening of the uppermost guardrail member, and above the mattress foundation. Then apply a 33-lbf (147-N) force in a perpendicular direction to the plane of the largest end of the block and keep it there for 1 minute.
It's a good idea inform your children to not hang any items on the guardrail or ladder, such as belts, clothes, or sports equipment. Instead you should make use of a rack for clothes to stop these objects from becoming an injury to your child. Also, ensure that more than one kid does not sleep on the top level of the bunk, since this could create an unsafe imbalance that could cause falls.
Mattresses
Consider the age and size of your child when selecting a mattress for a bunk beds. kids bunk beds should last for at least eight years or until siblings are no longer sharing bedrooms So, you'll want to pick one that's designed to grow with your child while still providing adequate support as they grow older.
Bunk mattress sizes are typically twin or full-size, and there are plenty of options that can fit either. If your child suffers from asthma or allergies, opt for a hypoallergenic mattress with dust mite barriers and a moisture-wicking cover. Children are prone to many accidents and spills, which is why a mattress with an antimicrobial layer will help keep the foam safe from harmful bacteria and germs.
The feel of your mattress is also crucial. Children weigh less than adults, which means they require an item that is firm, but also comfortable. A lot of hybrid and latex mattresses come with one side that is firm and the other soft side that can accommodate both children's requirements.
Memory foam mattresses are a good choice for kids, but we don't recommend them as they tend not to cool properly and could be hard on the spines of infant children. You should consider a hybrid or a latex mattress instead, which offer solid support and cooling infusions to keep your child or guest sleeping cool and comfortable.
Low-profile mattresses are often the ideal choice for bunk beds for children. They are designed to be smaller than regular mattresses and to increase safety rail height for the top bunk. They also reduce "filler" materials to offer the highest quality in slim designs.
If your child wants to try a mattress more hefty than a regular mattress, think about an hybrid or innerspring model with upper comfort layers that can be removed or replaced as your child develops. These models will give you a good idea of how the mattress will perform as your child grows, and you can always add an extra mattress skirt or mattress pad to prevent it from sliding off the frame. Some beds even have side rails or a lip built-in to stop this from happening.
Storage
Bunk beds are an excellent option for saving space in shared children's rooms. They can also be an affordable alternative to buying two separate single beds. A lot of bunks have the option to add a trundle which can be put underneath the bottom bunk when not in use.
Consider putting up a kids' bedroom furniture set that has bookcases, desks, and/or dressers to maximize storage and space in a bedroom with bunk beds. This will allow you to keep all of your child's personal items, clothing and toys in one spot without cramming them into overstuffed chests or closets. These bedroom furniture sets are available from a number of retailers and generally meet all federal safety standards.
Stacked bunks can become an imaginative playground as children can transform the spaces beneath into cozy places to hide and play. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate kids space. It can be used as a place for playing, sleeping or even for twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with the bubble wallcovering of Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the ultimate escape.
If you are unable to build a staircase to your bunk beds A ladder is an option. These ladders are built with a combination of Single Socket Tee Flange, Single Socket Tee and 90 Degree Side Outlet Tee fittings and can be easily adjusted to alter the distance between rungs of a ladder to make it easier for little ones to climb. The ladder rungs can also be positioned in a straight line with the ground rather than above to facilitate climbing.
Installing loft beds that can be lifted to just above the ground is another method to maximize space in a bunk bedroom. This lets you slide desks, dressers or toy chests under the elevated beds. This is an excellent way to maximize space in small bedrooms or large family homes where beds must be capable of accommodating multiple sleepers.
