In concurrence, FTIR-spectroscopy, and histopathological and biochemical analysis confirmed gut damage in YADF insects. Finally, the proteome data suggests that the mechanism of infection and the host response in Y. enterocolitica-H. armigera system mimics Yersinia-mammalian gut interactions.

All data from current study collectively suggest that H. armigera larva can be considered as a potential in vivo model system for studying the enteropathogenic infection by Y. enterocolitica strain 8081.

This study aims to identify spatiotemporal characteristics of drought and drought disaster risk in the summer maize growth period under climate change condition. In this research, we use daily datasets from 79 meteorological stations and the maize yield data in the Huang-Huai-Hai (HHH) plain, eastern China during the period 1960-2015. The drought disaster risk index (DDRI) model was applied to assess the drought disaster risk. The maize drought disaster risk maps were drawn under current and future climate change conditions. The results showed that the high DDRI was distributed in northern region and low DDRI was distributed in most of southern region in the HHH plain. During the summer maize growth period, the DDRI decreased gradually from the northern to southern region. The results also exhibited that under the RCP4.5 (Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5) scenario, about one half of the HHH plain belonged to the slight and sub-slight DDRI region in the future 80 years. Overall, our results demonstrated that the DDRI model provided an accurate assessment in both spatial and temporal scales and had a theoretical guidance for improving the adaptation of crop production. Elevating maize drought risk management helps to lessen the anticipated risk to crop production in the HHH plain under the context of climate change.
The role of concomitant gastrostomy or jejunostomy feeding tube (FT) placement during pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and its impact on patient outcomes remain controversial.

NSQIP database was surveyed for patients undergoing PD between 2014 and 2017. FT placement was identified using CPT codes. Propensity scores were used to match the two groups (11) on baseline characteristics and intraoperative variables including pancreas specific ones (duct size, gland texture, underlying disease, wound class, use of wound protector, drain placement, type of pancreatic reconstruction and vascular reconstruction). Outcomes were compared. Finally, a subset analyses for patients with delayed gastric emptying (DGE) or postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) were performed.

Out of 15,224 PD, 1,104 (7.5%) had FT. POPF and DGE rates were 17% and 18%, respectively, for the entire cohort. Feeding jejunostomy was the most placed FT (88.2%). Patients with FT placement were more likely to be older (mean, 65.8 vs. 64.6 y), smokers tend to have higher postoperative morbidity and delayed recovery.
Patients with FT placement during PD tend to have higher postoperative morbidity and delayed recovery. The amount of solid waste produced across the planet in the past decade was 1.3 billion tons (1.2 kg/year per person). Also, the significant number of publications on solid waste management (SWM) draws attention to the importance of discussing the topic to improve public health and to mitigate environmental impacts. The objectives of this article are to identify the state of the art and the scientific gaps on SWM and to propose a framework to promote it in the coming years. For this, a content analysis was carried out with the support of a bibliometric study, considering articles published in the Scopus database. The field of SWM study was classified into 12 different themes, and from this division, it was sought to identify the evolution of each of them between the 2005 and 2018 period. Content analysis and bibliometric study indicate that thermal and biological treatments are a promising trend to improve the performance of SWM. Its most important applied contribution is the generation of qualified information about SWM that can support the decision-making of public and private managers to reduce environmental impacts and improve life in urban spaces. The main academic contribution of the paper is the articulation of the most important themes on SWM, identifying the individual impact of each one of them in this field of study and the indication of the scientific trends that should guide the development of future research.A turn-on/off ratiometric fluorescence detection platform based on multifunctional lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF) and an enzymatic cascade reaction is proposed for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay. selleck L-phosphotyrosine is hydrolyzed to levodopa (L-dopa) by two steps of enzymatic reaction. L-dopa further reacts with naphthoresorcinol to produce carboxyazamonardine with strong emission at 490 nm. In this process, multifunctional Ln-MOF (Cu@Eu-BTC, BTC is the 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) acts not only as a nanozyme to catalyze the fluorogenic reaction between L-dopa and naphthoresorcinol but also as a fluorescence internal standard. The emission of Cu@Eu-BTC at 620 nm is quenched by phosphate anions, and the dual-response ratiometric fluorescence (F490/F620) can be achieved. A good linear relationship was obtained between Δ(F490/F620) and ALP activity in the range 0.3-24 U L-1 with the detection limit of 0.02 U L-1. In addition, a portable assay tube was designed for visual and point-of-care testing of ALP activity by color variation (ratiometric chromaticity). Both the ratiometric fluorescence detection and the visual detection methods were successfully applied to monitor ALP activity in human serum samples with recovery between 95.5%-109.0% and 94.0%-110.1%, and relative standard deviation less than 8.1% and 9.5%, respectively. As far as we know, this is the first report of ALP activity assay assisted by multifunctional Ln-MOF.Graphical abstract.
Characterization of hybrid seed failure in Prunus provides insight into conserved or lineage-specific hybrid incompatibility mechanisms in plant species. Postzygotic hybrid incompatibility resulting from a cross between different species involves complex mechanisms occurring at various developmental stages. Embryo arrest, followed by seed abortion, is the first stage of such incompatibility reactions and inhibits hybrid seed development. In Prunus, a rosaceous woody species, some interspecific crosses result in fruit drop during the early stage of fruit development, in which inferior seed development may be accounted for the observed hybrid incompatibility. In this study, we investigated ovule development and the transcriptomes of developing ovules in inter-subgeneric crosses of Prunus. We conducted a cross of Prunus mume (subgenus Prunus), pollinated by P. persica (subgenus Amygdalus), and found that ovule and seed coat degeneration occurs before fruit drop. Transcriptome analysis identified differentiallyin several GO pathways, including organelle development, stimulus response, and signaling. Among these pathways, the organelle-related genes were actively regulated during ovule development, as they showed higher expression in the early stage of interspecific crosses and declined in the later stage, suggesting that the differential regulation of organelle function may induce the degeneration of hybrid ovules. Additionally, genes related to ovule and seed coat development, such as genes encoding AGL-like and auxin response, were differentially regulated in Prunus interspecific crosses. Our results provide histological and molecular information on hybrid seed abortion in Prunus that could be utilized to develop new hybrid crops. Additionally, we compared and discussed transcriptome responses to hybrid seed failure in Prunus and other plant species, which provides insight into conserved or lineage-specific hybrid incompatibility mechanisms in some plant species.
Rice genotypes with larger stomata maintain higher nocturnal stomatal conductance, thus having lower nocturnal leaf temperature via transpirational cooling. Incomplete night stomatal closure has been widely observed, but the mechanisms and functions of nocturnal stomatal conductance (g
) are not fully understood. Stomatal anatomy, leaf morphology, g
and nocturnal leaf temperature (T
) were measured in 30 Oryza genotypes. Nocturnal leaf conductance (g
) showed a significant circadian rhythm; it gradually increased by 58% from 2030 to 0430. Contrary to cuticular conductance (g
), g
was highly correlated with g
. Moreover, g
accounted for 76% of g
. T
was significantly lower than the air temperature, and was negatively correlated with both g
and nocturnal transpiration rate (E
). g
was positively correlated with stomatal size, intervein distance between major veins (IVD
), leaf thickness (LT), individual leaf area (LA), and leaf width (LW). It was also found negatively correlated with stoma430. Contrary to cuticular conductance (gcut), gs,n was highly correlated with gn. Moreover, gs,n accounted for 76% of gn. Tleaf,n was significantly lower than the air temperature, and was negatively correlated with both gs,n and nocturnal transpiration rate (En). gs,n was positively correlated with stomatal size, intervein distance between major veins (IVDmajor), leaf thickness (LT), individual leaf area (LA), and leaf width (LW). It was also found negatively correlated with stomatal density. Reversely, Tleaf,n was negatively correlated with stomatal size, IVDmajor, intervein distance between minor veins, LA and LW. Tleaf,n presented a positive correlation with stomatal density. This study highlights the importance of stomatal anatomy and leaf morphology on regulating gs,n and Tleaf,n. The underlying mechanisms to the determinants of gs,n and the physiological and ecological functions of the Tleaf,n regulation on rice growth and production were carefully discussed. The prevalences of allergic diseases, asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and lately food allergy have been increasing over the last decades. It has been suggested that the prevalence of allergic diseases has reached a plateau in high income countries, while it is still on the rise in low and middle income countries. Generally, allergic diseases more often set on in childhood than in adulthood and affected children contribute more to the rise in allergic disease prevalence than affected adults. Epidemiological evidence suggests that not all atopic dermatitis and asthma cases are attributable to atopic sensitization. Indeed, mainly genetic association studies have prompted the unravelling of barrier dysfunction as a mainstay in the patho-mechanisms leading to atopic dermatitis and to asthma with atopic sensitization secondary to this dysfunction. Epidemiological research on risk and protective factors for allergic disease, acting against the background of genetic susceptibility, has produced an enormous body of evidence.
