In education, we can use cinema to create methodologies that develop the critical thinking to acquire knowledge in a collaborative way. Favorable attitudes toward organ donation and transplantation (ODT) is low in adolescents. Working on topics related to ODT, such as religion, immigration, and the law, can help to improve students' knowledge and endear them toward ODT with innovative educational methodologies.
This study aims to analyze the change in knowledge about religion, immigration, and legislation on ODT after an educational proposal based on film creation.
In this study, 16-year-old students participated in an educational proposal based on ODT education through filmmaking. A total of 543 students participated in the experimental group, and 320 participated in the control group. A validated ODT knowledge form was administered to both groups. Statistical analysis was carried out with SPSS version 21.0 package (SPSS, Inc, Chicago, IL, USA). A descriptive analysis and χ
test were performed to anabligations of immigrants in relation to the ODT, and knowledge of the law of presumed consent in ODT CONCLUSIONS Working in the classroom on psychosocial aspects such as religion, immigration, and legislation through filmmaking can favorably influence the adolescent's awareness of organ donation.Sternal osteomyelitis is a serious complication that significantly increases morbidity and mortality after thoracic surgery. We describe a case of sternal osteomyelitis by Trichosporon inkin following lung transplantation and the excellent results achieved with vacuum-assisted closure therapy. We synthesized herein a novel 3D cathode constructed by growing cobalt diselenide in situ on the surface of carbon nanofiber for hydrogen evolution reaction. The cobalt diselenides with two typical morphologies (agaric-like and nanorod-like) were synthesized by precisely controlling reaction time and temperature in the same system. They show excellent electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reactions. Especially, the agaric-like diselenide cobalt electrode has the low overpotential (187 and 199 mV) to obtain the current density of 50 and 100 mA cm-2 with a small Tafel slope of 37 mV dec-1 in acidic medium. The excellent catalytic performance of the agaric-like cobalt diselenide can be attributed to its large specific surface area and fast electron transfer rate. More importantly, the agaric-like cobalt diselenide supported carbon nanofiber electrode has excellent long-term stability in electrolyte. The outstanding electrocatalytic performance and stability of agaric-like cobalt diselenide supported carbon nanofiber indicate that it is a promising electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reactions. In recent years, shape memory polyurethanes have gained substantial attention and are targeted for a range of smart and functional materials. In this work, the development of nanocrystalline celluloses (CNCs) enabled polycaprolactone-based shape memory polyurethane biocomposite using an in situ one-pot reactions is reported. The incorporation of up to 10 wt% CNCs resulted in a remarkable enhancement in the tensile strength at yield (from 0.2 MPa to 7.2 MPa), tensile strength at break (167% improvement), and modulus of elasticity (from 3.5 to 139.3 MPa) while maintaining the elongation at break. This was attributed to the simultaneous action of CNCs as a nucleating agent for crystallization and highly compatibilized reinforcing agent of the network. Moreover, the in situ incorporation of CNCs enhanced the shape memory capability of polyurethanes, which enables its employment in functional material applications, such as the biomedical sector. find more The intimate interfacial adhesion between the CNCs and the polymer matrix, which promoted shape fixating and recovery, was confirmed by fractured surface morphology studies. Rheology characterizations provided strong evidence that the addition of CNCs increased the shape fixity attributed to the stiffness of CNCs below the glass transition temperature (Tg) compared to the neat PU in conjuncture with the higher Tg of CNCs. Overall, the developed polymer nanocomposites are appealing materials for biomedical applications.Core-shell structured Ni-ZIF-67@ZIF-8 derived bimetal selenides encapsulating into a 3D interpenetrating dual-carbon framework (Ni3Se4@CoSe2@C/CNTs) have been designed and prepared via carbonization and subsequent selenization processes. In this hierarchical structure, Ni3Se4@CoSe2 nanocrystals were uniformly dispersed into the 3D carbon frameworkstructure/carbon nanotubes networks, which greatly enhanced the electronic conductivity and further enabled ultrafast Na-ion diffusion kinetics. When used as anode materials of sodium ion battery (SIB), The Ni3Se4@CoSe2@C/CNTs electrode delivered the excellent rate capability of 206 mA h g-1 at 3 A g-1 and marvelous cyclic stability with capacity retention of 243 mA h g-1 after 600 cycles at 1 A g-1. This research provides a new way to prepare bimetallic selenide derived from MOF precursor with amazing heterostructure as the advanced anode materials for SIBs.
Molecular interactions between 4-OH-cinnamate and cetrimonium in solution result in improved adsorption of the cinnamate on mild steel, developing a protective mechanism against the diffusion of corrosive chloride to the oxide surface. Fundamental understanding of this mechanism should allow new design routes for the development of eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors.
Via classic molecular dynamics, simulations were carried out for cetrimonium and 4-OH-cinnamate in aqueous solutions at different ionic strengths and the results were validated with experimental SAXS data. Self-aggregation of cetrimonium 4-OH-cinnamate on a hydrated hematite surface was then simulated and results were compared with cryo-TEM imaging for the same compound. Finally, the effect of the adsorbed aggregates on chloride diffusion to the oxide surface was modelled.
Simulations showed the encapsulation of 4-OH-cinnamate into cetrimonium micelles, consistent with experiments. The newly formed micelles adsorb onto a hydrated iron oxide from spherical to wormlike adsorbed aggregates. The wormlike structure can block chloride ions, demonstrating a synergistic inhibitory mechanism between both cetrimonium and 4-OH-cinnamate. Encapsulation and delivery of active compounds to certain targets, such as carcinogenic tumors, have been well studied in biochemistry research, we demonstrate that the same mechanism can be applied to the design of efficient corrosion inhibitors, optimizing their delivery to the metal surface.
In living systems, dynamic processes like dissipative assembly, polymorph formation, and destabilization of hydrophobic domains play an indispensable role in the biochemical processes. Adaptation of biological self-assembly processes to an amphiphilic molecule leads to the fabrication of intelligent biomaterials with life-like behavior.
An amphiphilic glycolipid molecule was engineered into various dissipative assemblies (vesicles and supramolecular nanotube-composed hydrogels) by using two activation steps, including heating-cooling and shear force in method-1 or boric acid/glycolipid complexation and shear force in method-2. The influence of number of activation steps on vesicle to nanotube phase transitions and activation method on the properties of hydrogels were investigated, where the morphological transformations and destabilization of hydrophobic domains resulted from a bilayer to a higher-order crystal structure.
Hydrophobic and hydrophilic cargos encapsulated in the dissipative assemblies (vesicles and injectable hydrogels) can be released in a controlled manner via changing the activation method. The reported adaptive materials engineered by dual activation steps are promising self-assembled systems for programmed release of loaded cargos at a tunable rate.

Herein, mango seed waste is utilized as a precursor to synthesize nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O) co-doped porous carbon by high-temperature carbonization coupling with subsequent KOH activation. The more KOH activator was fed in the high-temperature activation process, the larger surface area, higher micropore ratio, and lower N and O doping content of the activated carbon was obtained. The optimized mango seed-derived activated carbon (MSAC) exhibits high surface area (1815 m2 g-1), micropore ratio (94%), doping content of nitrogen (1.71 at.%), and oxygen (10.93 at.%), which delivers an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 402F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and retains 102.4% of initial capacitance after 5000 cycles. The supercapacitor performance of MSAC was also investigated in 6 M KOH, 1 M [BMIM]BF4/AN, and PVA/KOH electrolytes in detail, respectively. A flexible all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (FSAS) fabricated by MSAC anode, CoNiAl layered double hydroxides cathode, and PVA/KOH electrolyte achieves a high energy density of 33.65 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 187.5 W kg-1 and retains 80% of initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles. The low cost, facile synthetic process, and excellent electrochemical performance of MSAC electrode material provide a cheap and accessible strategy to obtain porous carbon material for energy conversion and storage systems.
Analytical expressions for calculating Hamaker constant (HC) and van der Waals (VDW) energy/force for interaction of a particle with a solid water interface has been reported for over eighty years. This work further developed novel analytical expressions and numerical approaches for determining HC and VDW interaction energy/force for the particle approaching and penetrating air-water interface (AWI), respectively.
The expressions of HC and VDW interaction energy/force before penetrating were developed through analysis of the variation in free energy of the interaction system with bringing the particle from infinity to the vicinity of the AWI. The surface element integration (SEI) technique was modified to calculate VDW energy/force after penetrating.
We explain why repulsive VDW energy exists inhibiting the particle from approaching the AWI. We found very significant VDW repulsion for a particle at a concave AWI after penetration, which can even exceed the capillary force and cause strong retention in water films on a solid surface and at air-water-solid interface line.
