The pUG fold differs from known G4s in that it has a left-handed backbone similar to Z-RNA, no consecutive guanosines in its sequence, and three G quartets and one U quartet stacked non-sequentially. The compact pUG fold binds six potassium ions and brings the RNA ends into close proximity. The biological importance of the pUG fold is emphasized by our observations that porphyrin molecules bind to the pUG fold and inhibit both gene silencing and binding of RdRP. Moreover, specific 7-deaza substitutions that disrupt the pUG fold neither bind RdRP nor induce RNA silencing. These data define the pUG fold as a previously unrecognized RNA structural motif that drives gene silencing. The pUG fold can also form internally within larger RNA molecules. Approximately 20,000 pUG-fold sequences are found in noncoding regions of human RNAs, suggesting that the fold probably has biological roles beyond gene silencing.Bacterial communities in animals are often necessary for hosts to survive, particularly for hosts with nutrient-limited diets. The composition, abundance, and richness of these bacterial communities may be shaped by host identity and external ecological factors. The turtle ants (genus Cephalotes) are predominantly herbivorous and known to rely on bacterial communities to enrich their diet. Cephalotes have a broad Neotropical distribution, with high diversity in the South American Cerrado, a geologically and biologically diverse savanna. Using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, we examined the bacterial communities of forty-one Cephalotes samples of sixteen different species collected from multiple locations across two sites in the Cerrado (MG, Brazil) and compared the bacterial communities according to elevation, locality, species, and species group, defined by host phylogeny. Beta diversity of bacterial communities differed with respect to all categories but particularly strongly when compared by geographic location, species, and species group. The sources of planetary volatiles and the timing at which they were accreted to growing planets probably play a crucial role in controlling planet habitability.The Pacific cold tongue annual cycle in sea surface temperature is presumed to be driven by Earth's axial tilt1-5 (tilt effect), and thus its phasing should be fixed relative to the calendar. However, its phase and amplitude change dramatically and consistently under various configurations of orbital precession in several Earth System models. Here, we show that the cold tongue possesses another annual cycle driven by the variation in Earth-Sun distance (distance effect) from orbital eccentricity. As the two cycles possess slightly different periodicities6, their interference results in a complex evolution of the net seasonality over a precession cycle. The amplitude from the distance effect increases linearly with eccentricity and is comparable to the amplitude from the tilt effect for the largest eccentricity values over the last million years (e value approximately 0.05)7. Mechanistically, the distance effect on the cold tongue arises through a seasonal longitudinal shift in the Walker circulation and subsequent annual wind forcing on the tropical Pacific dynamic ocean-atmosphere system. The finding calls for reassessment of current understanding of the Pacific cold tongue annual cycle and re-evaluation of tropical Pacific palaeoclimate records for annual cycle phase changes.The core-collapse supernova of a massive star rapidly brightens when a shock, produced following the collapse of its core, reaches the stellar surface. As the shock-heated star subsequently expands and cools, its early-time light curve should have a simple dependence on the size of the progenitor1 and therefore final evolutionary state. Measurements of the radius of the progenitor from early light curves exist for only a small sample of nearby supernovae2-14, and almost all lack constraining ultraviolet observations within a day of explosion. The several-day time delays and magnifying ability of galaxy-scale gravitational lenses, however, should provide a powerful tool for measuring the early light curves of distant supernovae, and thereby studying massive stellar populations at high redshift. Here we analyse individual rest-frame exposures in the ultraviolet to the optical taken with the Hubble Space Telescope, which simultaneously capture, in three separate gravitationally lensed images, the early phases of a supernova at redshift z ≈ 3 beginning within 5.8 ± 3.1 hours of explosion. The supernova, seen at a lookback time of approximately 11.5 billion years, is strongly lensed by an early-type galaxy in the Abell 370 cluster. We constrain the pre-explosion radius to be [Formula see text] solar radii, consistent with a red supergiant. Highly confined and massive circumstellar material at the same radius can also reproduce the light curve, but because no similar low-redshift examples are known, this is unlikely.Painful articular musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are common, debilitating and sometimes difficult to treat. Transcatheter embolisation may offer an alternative way to manage the pain associated with these conditions, but the field is still in its infancy. To date, the most commonly studied indication is knee osteoarthritis, but the technique has been trailed in multiple other tissue beds, including for adhesive capsulitis and tendinopathies. Whilst early results appear promising, the existing studies are mostly open-labelled and non-randomised; there is a need for high-quality evidence to robustly assess the procedures efficacy. In this review, we set out to evaluate the current evidence underlying the pathophysiology and mechanism of action of embolisation; discuss the technical aspects of the procedure including embolic selection, and appraise the published clinical outcomes and adverse effects. Finally, we discuss the future directions and research priorities in this rapidly developing field.
To evaluate the duration and effect of superior hypogastric nerve block (SHNB) with ropivacaine and clonidine on postinterventional pain levels and opioid requirements in patients undergoing uterine artery embolization.

Postinterventional pain levels (numeric rating scale, NRS 0-10) and opioid doses were retrospectively analyzed in 53 patients undergoing transfemoral uterine artery embolization and intraprocedural superior hypogastric nerve block during 24h. A mixture of 150mg of ropivacaine and 150µg of clonidine was used for the block.

Postinterventional pain averaged between 1.4 and 2.0 during the first 9h, after which a small but significant increase was observed (NRS 1.7 ± 1.6 vs. NRS 2.6 ± 2.2, p < 0.001). 70% of patients did not exceed a tolerable pain threshold of NRS 4 during the first 9h after the intervention. Thirty-three patients (62%) did not require any opioid medication. Mean iv morphine dose was 3.1 ± 4.7mg, whereas 71% of opioid doses were administered after 9h.
