Compared to ICC, initial ventilation and DCC was accompanied by (1) redistribution of a similar level of ascending aortic flow away from cephalic arteries and towards the aortic isthmus after ventilation; (2) a lower right ventricular heart rate and blood pressure fluctuations exist between DCC and ICC with a non-asphyxial ( less then 45 s) CC-V interval, but how central arterial blood flow effects of DCC compare with those of non-asphyxial ICC is unknown. Anaesthetized preterm fetal lambs instrumented with central arterial flow probes underwent initial ventilation for ∼90 s before DCC at birth, or ICC for ∼40 s before ventilation. Compared to non-asphyxial ICC, initial ventilation with DCC redistributed central blood flows, resulting in lower systemic, but not pulmonary, arterial flows during this period of transition. Involvement in adverse events can negatively impact physician well-being. Because burnout is increasingly recognized as a threat to patient safety, we examined the relationship between physician adverse event involvement and burnout as well as facilitators and barriers to support among physicians experiencing burnout.

We surveyed physicians in the United States who are members of the networking platform, Doximity. We conducted quantitative and qualitative analyses investigating experiences with adverse events, the impact of adverse events, the type of support the physician sought and received after the event, and burnout.

Across specialties, involvement in an adverse event and burnout was common. Most respondents involved in an adverse event experienced emotional impact, but only a minority received support. Those reporting that the error resulted in emotional impact were more likely to experience burnout (adjusted odds ratio, 1.90; 95% confidence interval, 1.18-3.07); this association was mitigated by plemented. The MIPs were generated using a stamping approach. Peak-force QNM measurements were conducted to rule out residues of bacterial cells in the imprints. While imprints of E. coli and B. cereus could be distinguished based on their Raman spectra in the acrylate-based polymer, differentiation in poly(styrene-co-DVB) was not significant. This could be a result of a higher potential of acrylate functional groups for interacting with lipopolysaccharides and peptidoglycans on bacteria surfaces compared to the phenyl groups of poly(styrene-co-DVB) and emphasizes the importance of the right choice of functional monomers for a specific target analyte.
Attenuation of the inflammatory response in patients undergoing colectomy with modern perioperative care and laparoscopic surgery has been a focus of research in recent years. Despite reported benefits, significant heterogeneity remains with studies including patients undergoing both rectal and colon surgery and including surgery with postoperative complications. Therefore, the aim of the study was to evaluate the inflammatory response in patients undergoing elective colectomy without complications, specifically comparing open and laparoscopic approaches.

A multicenter prospective study was conducted across four public hospitals in Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand. Consecutive adults undergoing elective colectomy were included over a 3-year period. Perioperative blood samples were collected and analysed for the following inflammatory markers IL-6, IL-1β, TNFα, IL-10, CRP, leucocyte and neutrophil count. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software.

An Internet search was conducted to identify publicly available patient safety databases that contained patient safety reports. Each database was analyzed to identify features that enable patient safety analyst and data scientist use of these databases.

Seven databases (6 hosted by federal agencies, 1 hosted by a nonprofit organization) containing more than 28.3 million safety reports were identified. Some, but not all, databases contained features to support patient safety analyst use 57.1% provided the ability to sort/compare/filter data, 42.9% provided data visualization, and 85.7% enabled free-text search. None of the databases provided regular updates or monitoring and only one database suggested solutions to patient safety reports. Analysis of features to support data scientist use showed that only 42.9% provided an application programing interface, most (85.7%) provided batch downloading, all provided documentation about the database, and 71.4% provided a data dictionary. All databases provided open access. Only 28.6% provided a data diagram.

Most patients with FLC harbor a heterozygous deletion on chromosome 19 that leads to the oncogenic gene fusion, DNAJB1-PRKACA. There are currently no effective therapeutics for FLC. To address that, it is critical to gain deeper mechanistic insight into FLC pathogenesis. We assembled a large sample set of FLC and nonmalignant liver tissue (n = 52) and performed integrative multiomic analysis. Specifically, we carried out small RNA sequencing to define altered microRNA expression patterns in tumor samples and then coupled this analysis with RNA sequencing and chromatin run-on sequencing data to identify candidate master microRNA regulators of gene expression in FLC. We also evaluated the relationship between DNAJB1-PRKACA and microRNAs of interest in several human and mouse cell models. Finally, we performed loss-of-function experiments for a specific microRNA in cells established from a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model. We identified miR-10b-5p as the top candidate pro-proliferative microRNA in FLC. In multiple human cell models, overexpression of DNAJB1-PRKACA led to significant upregulation of miR-10b-5p. Inhibition of miR-10b in PDX-derived cells increased the expression of several potentially novel target genes, concomitant with a significant reduction in metabolic activity, proliferation, and anchorage-independent growth.
