Abstract word count 186.Background and aim of the work Colorectal mucosal precancerous lesions, metabolic syndrome (MetS) and psychiatric disorders may share a common low-grade local and systemic inflammation. Aim is to report on preliminary data concerning a research adopting a psycho-neuro-endocrine-immune (PNEI) approach to study outpatients undergoing colonoscopy. Methods A sample of patients undergoing colonoscopy was cross-sectionally investigated. Data on colorectal adenomas, MetS, early atherosclerosis, anxious-depressive symptoms, personality traits, and inflammatory markers were statistically analyzed. Results Sixty-two patients were recruited (female 50%, mean age 60.8±9.4 years). The prevalence of adenomas and MetS was respectively of 45.2% and 41.9%. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were detected in 16 (32.7%) and 9 (18.4%) subjects, respectively. The presence of adenomas positively correlated with male sex (p=0.01), age (p less then 0.01), IL-6 (p=0.03), hsCRP (p=0.04), and MetS (p=0.03); it was also associated with hsCRP concentration (aOR=3.81, p=0.03). Conclusions Proinflammatory atherogenic status, psychological traits, increased mucosal inflammation, and metabolic parameters may share a common a pathogenic mechanism, worth studying.
On 22 December 2017, Law number 219 was approved in Italy entitled "Provisions for informed consent and advance treatment directives". We aim to examine the knowledge of these provisions of Italian medico legal fellows, and the ability of Italian university healthcare facilities to implement the principles of the new law.

A survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire sent to members of a scientific society. The society had 357 members and represents more than 75% of the Italian doctors in training and 32 university healthcare facilities in Italy. 27 facilities and 45% of the society's members participated in this enquiry.

The majority (68%) of those interviewed felt they had acquired an adequate knowledge of the Law but only 60% of them were able to indicate how for filing legally valid advance directives (60% vs. 40%) and only 37% knew how drafting a shared care plan. 89% of the pool felt that legal recognition of a patient's self-determination was useful for enhancing the care relationship. The 74% of the facilities analyzed have organized training activities regarding the contents of the law but only 26% have updated their procedures on the practical implementation of the law and their informed consent forms. 60% of the facilities perform medico legal consultation activities and in 15% of the facilities, there has been resistance to the application of the law.

In this study, we aimed to contribute to the literature by evaluating bonsai and additional drugs.

This prospective study was conducted on 217 patients who admitted to the emergency department (ED) with bonsai intake between December 20, 2014 and January 1, 2016, according to the patient history obtained from the patients. While 168 patients with negative urinary metabolites results were excluded from the study, 49 patients with positive urinary metabolites were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of patients with only bonsai intake and the second group consisted of patients with bonsai and concomitant drug intake. The groups were compared in terms of symptoms, findings, blood gas values, duration of the symptoms, discharge time, hospitalization, and mortality rate. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square, the Fisher's exacttest, the Student t-test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. Data were evaluated at the 95% confidence interval. P<0.05 was considered rs, respectively. Remission time of the symptoms and hospitalization rates were higher in patients with concomittant drug intake (p less then 0.05) Conclusion While the bonsai intake alone is not considered mortal to the patients and most of them can be discharged from the ED after signs and symptoms disappear, concomitant drug use can increase the toxic effects of bonsai intake. That is why follow-up of patients taking concomitant drug and the treatment process should be carried out more carefully.
Fibrous dysplasia is a fibro-osseous osteopathy in which the normal bone architecture is replaced by fibrous tissue and non-functional trabeculae-like osseous structures. In head and neck area monostotic or polyostotic lesions cause a progressively expanding destructive bone swelling producing cosmetic deformities and functional impairments. The aim of this article is to present a retrospective review of a clinical case series with pathologically confirmed jawbone fibrous dysplasia for over an 8-year-period.

Clinical presentation and radiographic features of fibrous dysplasia affecting the jawbone skeletal area, surgical procedures performed including the reconstructive methods employed and clinical outcomes were analysed for each patient.

Seven cases were classified as having monostotic fibrous dysplasia while the others four cases were classified as having polyostotic form. The mandible was most commonly involved. The most common presenting features included marked facial deformity, intraoral bulging, malocclusion and dental alterations.
