OBJECTIVE To determine patterns of nurse-patient communication in fulfilling patients' informational/psychosocial needs, effects of longer consultation/operational aspects on person-centred care experiences. METHODS Mixed-method design; secondary analysis of transcripts of nurse-patient communication within nurse-led chemotherapy clinics in UK [3]. Purposive sampling (13 nurses); non-participant observations (61 consultations). Qualitative content analysis of audio-recorded transcripts. Quantitative analysis using the Medical Interview Aural Rating Scale [14] to compare mean differences in the number of cues and level of responding using one-way ANOVA, and correlational analyses of discursive spaces. RESULTS Nurses responded positively to informational cues, but not psychosocial cues. Longer consultations associated with more informational and psychosocial cues (p less then .0001), but not nurses' cue-responding behaviours. Four main themes emerged challenges/opportunities for person-centred communication in biomedical contexts; patients' "life world" versus the "medical world"; three-way communication nurse, patient and family; implications of continuity of care. CONCLUSIONS The challenges/opportunities for cue-responding in nurse-led chemotherapy clinics were evident for informational and psychosocial support of patients. Shifting from a biomedical to biopsychosocial focus is difficult. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Further evaluation is needed to integrate biopsychosocial elements into communication education/training. Careful planning is required to ensure continuity and effective use of time for person-centred care. BACKGROUND There are various definitions and tools for Information Need (IN), Learning Need (LN) and Educational Need (EN) which are used interchangeably in the patient education. OBJECTIVE Clarifying the definitions of IN, LN and EN as well as comparing item generation methods and the dimensions of the available tools to be used appropriately. METHODS We searched PubMed/Scopus/Embase/Science Direct databases from 1960 to 2019. Two reviewers selected studies and extracted data independently. RESULTS We identified 22 tools comprised of 14 IN, 5 LN and 3 EN tools. The Patient Learning Needs Scale (PLNS) was the only general tool. The content of tools includes anatomy, physiology, diagnostic tests, symptoms, treatments, medications, diet, activity and self-care. No difference was found between EN/LN/IN tools in terms of item generation and dimensions according to their concept definitions. Seven tools assessed all 7 domains of patient education components. CONCLUSION The EN, LN and IN are different concepts, but using these concepts in the tools is not based on their definitions and they have been used interchangeably. IN and LN tools were more complete and comprehensive. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The findings of this review can help researchers and clinicians to use EN, LN and IN tools more appropriately. INTRODUCTION Prostate cancer is the most common visceral neoplasm in men and the second one in the United States with the highest mortality behind lung cancer and ahead of colorectal cancer. While prostate cancer mortality rates have been reduced in the United States, Austria, United Kingdom and France, 5-year survival rates have been incremented in Sweden, probably due to a higher diagnostic activity and non-lethal tumor detection. TRPB usually has low rates of serious complications, with a not negligible number of minor complications. Mortality directly associated with this procedure is low and usually related to septic shock. The main complications derived from prostate biopsy can be infectious (mild or severe) and non-infectious (hematuria consistent with hemorrhage, urethral bleeding, rectal bleeding or hemospermia, acute urinary retention, pain or vasovagal reactions). MATERIAL AND METHOD The objective of the study is to compare three usual TRPB protocols and their relationship with the incidence of comnting a normal distribution with high confidence interval (95%) and significant correlation. Prophylaxis is the most significant variable for no complications and pain (P=.0001), age (P=.0013) and prophylaxis (P=.0001) are for bleeding, age (P=.0013), prophylaxis and PSA (P=.0001) are for infection, and finally, age (P=.0013), anesthesia with local infiltration and prophylaxis (P=.0001) and PSA (P=.0402) are for AUR. CONCLUSIONS Sedation has fewer side effects and complications related to the transrectal prostate biopsy procedure with respect to transrectal local anesthesia. The choice of the antibiotic prophylaxis scheme is decisive in the onset of complications arising from the performance of a transrectal prostate biopsy. BACKGROUND Proper reference values for lung function testing are essential for achieving adequate interpretations. The LMS procedure (lambda, mu, sigma) permits continuous analyses of entire populations avoiding gaps in the transition between childhood and adulthood. It also allows more precise calculations of average values, dispersion, and 5th percentiles, which are usually considered the lower limit of normality. The objective of this study was to compare our results fitted with the LMS method with standard multiple linear regression, and with those from international Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI) equations. METHODS Data from 9835 healthy residents of the metropolitan area of Mexico City aged 8-80 years were compiled from several studies EMPECE, PLATINO, adult Mexican workers and two unpublished studies. The LMS procedure and multiple linear regression models were fit to obtain reference equations using R software. GSK-3 beta pathway RESULTS Residuals from the LMS models had a median closer to zero, and smaller dispersion than those from the linear model, but differences although statistically significant were very small and of questionable practical relevance. For example, for females and ln(FEV1), median residual was -0.001 with p25 of -0.08 and p75 of 0.08 for LMS, compared with 0.004 (-0.08, 0.09) [p less then 0.05] for the linear model. Average spirometric values for a given height for our population, were higher than those predicted by the GLI study. CONCLUSION Continuous reference equations for the Mexican population calculated using the LMS technique showed slightly better fit than linear regression models. Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) is the second leading cause of nosocomial infection, and increases morbidity and mortality. It is currently classified into three groups HAP not requiring artificial ventilation, HAP requiring artificial ventilation, and HAP acquired during artificial ventilation, also known as ventilator-acquired pneumonia (VAP). The latest guidelines for the management of HAP were published in 2016 (IDSA/ATS) and 2017 (ERS/ESCMID/ESICM and ALAT). The latest Spanish guidelines were published in Archivos de Bronconeumologia in 2011. American guidelines from 2016 and international guidelines from 2017 present their recommendations in a context of significantly increased resistance of both Gram-positive and, in particular, Gram-negative microorganisms to antibacterial agents. In 2019, SEPAR celebrated Pneumonia Year, and we felt that this was an appropriate time to update the guidelines published in 2011. Pulmonologists, intensive care specialists, infectious disease specialists, and methodology experts participated in drawing up this document, and agreed to use the following scheme. Adjuvants are important to enhance the antigens immunogenicity, but may also alter the structures of antigens. Currently off-line methods for adjuvants induced antigen alteration suffer from incomplete release and possible structural alteration of antigens. Here we investigated the differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF) as an in-situ and high-throughput strategy to analyze the stability of inactivated foot-and-mouth disease virus (iFMDV), known as 146S, in three representative adjuvants including aluminum hydroxide (AH), oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion, and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion. Under optimized DSF conditions, the Tm referring to 146S dissociation can be detected in all three adjuvants. Using SYBR Green II as fluorescent dye enables detection of iFMDV as low as 5 μg/mL. By comparing the Tm in different pH, three adjuvants showed different effects on 146S. Screening for excipients was successfully conducted using DSF. Sugars and glycerol increased the Tm of iFMDV in all three adjuvants, but to different degree. The stabilization by 20% (w/v) sucrose and glycerol was further verified by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC). DSF is proved also applicative for low-purity iFMDV and pre-adjuvanted iFMDV vaccines. In summary, the DSF can be a powerful tool in formulation study and vaccine quality control for inactivated virus vaccines. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate acceptance and willingness to pay for HPV vaccination among adult women in China. METHODS An online survey was sent to mothers aged 27-45 years of primary school pupils in the Fujian province, China. Participants completed questions about HPV related knowledge and health beliefs, intention to take the HPV vaccine and the willingness to pay for bivalent vaccine (2vHPV), quadrivalent vaccine (4vHPV), and 9-valent HPV vaccine (9vHPV). RESULTS Of a total of 2339 complete responses, 58.3% reported intent to obtain HPV vaccine. Mothers who were younger in age, residing in urban, working in managerial or professional occupations, who knew someone with cervical cancer and who were able to make independent decisions about the HPV vaccine (vs. joint decision with spouse) were more likely to express intent to have HPV vaccination. Perceived barriers, cues to action and self-efficacy were three of the constructs in the health belief model that significantly influenced HPV vaccination intent. A higher proportion of participants expressed willingness to pay for 2vHPV (81.2%) and 4vHPV (75.9%), as compared to 9vHPV (67.7%). CONCLUSION Adults women expressed moderate intention to receive the HPV vaccine. Intervention to address barriers to uptake of the HPV vaccine among adult women in China is warranted. BACKGROUND Given the increasing incidence of measles, the aim was to assess the seroprevalence of measles immunity among employees of a Czech tertiary care hospital and to assess their willingness to revaccination. METHODS 3027 hospital employees (2421 females, 606 males) underwent a serological analysis of their measles antibody levels with an option of revaccination in case of an insufficient level. RESULTS The median age of participants was 42 years. Seropositivity was noted in 54% of the participants, with the antibody values higher in the oldest study participants and with a decrease around the birth year 1968. Logistic regression analysis confirmed a significant relationship of seropositivity with age (odds ratio 0.97, p less then 0.005). Out of the seronegative, 80.9% individuals got revaccinated. CONCLUSIONS 46% of the participants did not reach a sufficient antibody level set by the assay's manufacturer. Although the routine vaccination system is well established it may be ineffective.
