The reward deficiency syndrome (RDS) integrates psychological, neurological, and genetic factors of addictive, impulsive, and compulsive behaviors. However, to date, no instrument has been validated to assess the RDS construct.

The present study developed and tested a tool to assess RDS.

Data were collected on two college and university samples. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were performed on Sample 1 (
= 1726), and confirmatory analysis was conducted on an independent sample (
 = 253). Impulsivity and sensation-seeking were assessed.

Based on EFAs, a 29-item Reward Deficiency Syndrome Questionnaire (RDSQ-29) was developed, containing four subscales (lack of sexual satisfaction, activity, social concerns, and risk-seeking behavior). CFA indicated good fit (comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.941; Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.933; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.068). Construct validity analysis showed strong relationship between sensation-seeking and the RDS scale.

The RDSQ-29 is an adequate scale assessing psychological and behavioral aspects of RDS. The RDSQ-29 assesses psychological and behavioral characteristics that may contribute to addictions generally.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated containment policies have led to negative mental health consequences in the general population.

This study investigated the association between perceived social support and depressive symptoms in Korea.

Data from the Korea Community Health Survey conducted from August to November 2020 was used for this cross-sectional study. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and perceived social support was assessed based on the number of contacts that participants had identified as being available in case participants needed isolation due to COVID-19 exposure. This study included the general adult populations aged 19 years and older. The relationship between the perceived social support and depressive symptoms was analyzed using multivariable liner regression analysis. Subgroup analysis was conducted based on income.

Analysis of the data obtained from 225,453 participants indicated that PHQ-9 scores were highest in the group with 'no' perceived social support, followed by 'low', 'middle', and 'high' perceived levels of social support. Compared to individuals with 'high' perceived social support, those with 'middle' (β .10,
-value <.001), 'low (β .07,
-value .010), and 'no' (β .34,
-value <.001) perceived levels of social support showed poorer depression scores. The magnitude of the relationship found was particularly strong in the low-income group.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals' depression scores varied according to their perceived level of social support. Strategies that address the need of vulnerable individuals are required to reduce the potentially negative mental health consequences of the pandemic.

In the last decade, there has been an increase in research that aims to parse heterogeneity in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The current study tests heritability of latent class neuropsychological subtypes.

Latent class analysis was used to derive subtypes in a sample of school-age twins (
= 2,564) enriched for elevated ADHD symptoms.

Five neuropsychological profiles replicated across twin 1 and twin 2 datasets. Latent class membership was heritable overall, but heritability varied by profile and was lower than heritability of ADHD status. Variability in neuropsychological performance across domains was the strongest predictor of elevated ADHD symptoms. Neuropsychological profiles showed distinct associations with age, psychiatric symptoms and reading ability.

Neuropsychological profiles are associated with unique neurocognitive presentations, but are not strong candidate endophenotypes for ADHD diagnosis.

Children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are at risk for serious electrolyte abnormalities.

We reported a case of hyperphosphatemia in a child with acute myeloid leukemia who received liposomal amphotericin B (AMBL) for the treatment of an invasive fungal infection. GW806742X The findings of this case suggest that cumulative dose accumulation due to long term AMBL treatment may result in late-onset hyperphosphatemia.

This is the first case report in the literature that of late-onset hyperphosphatemia (day 56) in a patient with low-dose AMBL treatment (3-5 mg/kg/day) and normal renal function.

We highlight the importance of increasing awareness of AMBL related hyperphosphatemia among healthcare providers.

While the effect of insecure attachment on depression is well established, findings pertaining to the relationship between specific attachment dimensions (anxious and avoidant) and depression are inconsistent. The role of interpersonal factors underlying this effect has been little explored. 'Silencing the Self', a socio-cognitive construct may provide important insights as a mediating pathway from insecure attachment to depression and help resolve the inconsistencies.

The present study explored the mediating effect of self-silencing and the role of gender as a moderator in the relation between insecure attachment orientation (i.e. avoidant and anxious) and depressive symptoms.

Data was collected via an online survey, from 121 adults who were in a relationship. The participants were asked to complete three self-report questionnaires, assessing attachment orientation, silencing the self and depressive symptoms. Moderated mediation analysis was performed using conditional process analysis.

The results is.Calprotectin is one of the most abundant proteins of neutrophil granulocytes. It is released upon neutrophil activation and is considered a sensitive and clinically useful marker for neutrophil-mediated inflammation, including bacterial infections. However, early kinetics of calprotectin activation following inflammatory activation has hitherto been unknown. The aim of the present study was to determine the early phase of the kinetics of calprotectin, in comparison with the inflammatory markers CRP, IL-6, TNF-α, and procalcitonin, in plasma following a standardized temporary mild inflammatory response, using uncomplicated inguinal hernia surgery as a model. The study cohort consisted of 17 adult patients (15 male and 2 female) undergoing elective surgery for hernia. Values of calprotectin increased significantly at 2 h following surgery, and continued to increase to reach the highest level at 24-36 h after surgery, values still not exceeding upper normal reference level. This contrasts to IL-6 and CRP, for which an elevation was found first later, 4 h and 24-36 h post-surgery, respectively, for IL-6, and CRP. No significant increase was seen for TNF-α, or procalcitonin. The data demonstrate a very rapid and significant but modest increase in calprotectin following induction of mild inflammation, supporting that calprotectin can be useful for early detection of inflammatory response.Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global public health concern, and few effective treatments for its delayed damages are available. Oridonin (Ori) recently has been reported to show a promising neuroprotective efficacy, but its potential therapeutic effect on TBI has not been thoroughly elucidated. The TBI mouse models were established and treated with Ori or vehicle 30 min post-operation and every 24 h since then. Impairments in cognitive and motor function and neuropathological changes were evaluated and compared. The therapeutic efficacy and mechanisms of action of Ori were further investigated using animal tissues and cell cultures. Ori restored motor function and cognition after TBI-induced impairment and exerted neuroprotective effects by reducing cerebral edema and cortical lesion volume. Ori increased neuronal survival, ameliorating gliosis and the accumulation of macrophages after injury. It suppressed the increased production of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxide, and malondialdehyde and reversed the decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential and adenosine triphosphate content, which was also identified in oxidatively stressed neuronal cultures. Further, Ori inhibited the expression of nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeats family protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome proteins and NLRP3-dependent cytokine interleukin-1β that can be induced by oxidative stress after TBI. Regarding underlying mechanisms, Ori significantly enhanced expression of key proteins of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1 (Nrf2/HO-1) pathway. Our results demonstrated that Ori effectively improved functional impairments and neuropathological changes in animals with TBI. By activating the Nrf2 pathway, it improved mitochondrial function and antioxidant capacity and suppressed the neuroinflammation induced by oxidative stress. The results therefore suggest Ori as a potent candidate for managing neurological damage after TBI.
To assess the success rate and complications of Lacrijet monocanalicular stent (FCI S.A.S, Paris, France) intubation in children treated for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO).

Retrospective review study which included children with CNLDO that were intubated with Lacrijet monocanalucilar silicone tube. The Lacrijet tube remained in place for 11-15 weeks post operatively and was removed in the clinic with topical anesthesia. Operative time was recorded for each case. All children were evaluated using the following parameters preoperatively and postoperatively tear meniscus height, Fluorescein dye disappearance test (FDDT), and MUNK score.

The study included 20 eyes with mean age of 26.25 ± 11.25 months. 17 eyes (85%) had undergone probing previously. Mean operation time of Lacrijet intubation was 8.5 min (95% CI 7.04-9.95). Mean follow-up period was 204.65 ± 105.27 days. Lacrijet intubation resulted in statistically significant improvements in tear meniscus height (
 < .001), FDDT (
 < 0.001), and MUNK score (
< 0.001) in all children. Two different sizes of Lacrijet intubations were used. Complete success was obtained in all cases. No complications were observed.

Lacrijet lacrimal intubation has a high rate of success, shortens surgical time and has a low rate of complications in children with CNLDO.
