915, p = 0.023), adiponectin levels (OR = 1.074, p = 0.014), irisin levels (OR = 0.993, p  less then  0.001) and BMI (OR = 0.456, p = 0.004) were independently associated with sarcopenia. Irisin levels are associated with sarcopenia in patients with liver cirrhosis. selleck chemicals This paper addresses a gap in the literature and facilitates the future transition into clinical treatment. Both extrinsic and intrinsic factors predispose older people to fall. We performed a genome-wide association analysis to investigate how much of an individual's fall susceptibility can be attributed to genetics in 89,076 cases and 362,103 controls from the UK Biobank Study. The analysis revealed a small, but significant SNP-based heritability (2.7%) and identified three novel fall-associated loci (Pcombined ≤ 5 × 10-8). Polygenic risk scores in two independent settings showed patterns of polygenic inheritance. Risk of falling had positive genetic correlations with fractures, identifying for the first time a pathway independent of bone mineral density. There were also positive genetic correlations with insomnia, neuroticism, depressive symptoms, and different medications. Negative genetic correlations were identified with muscle strength, intelligence and subjective well-being. Brain, and in particular cerebellum tissue, showed the highest gene expression enrichment for fall-associated variants. Overall, despite the highly heterogenic nature underlying fall risk, a proportion of the susceptibility can be attributed to genetics.Comparative anatomy studies of the skull of archosaurs provide insights on the mechanisms of evolution for the morphologically and functionally diverse species of crocodiles and birds. One of the key attributes of skull evolution is the anatomical changes associated with the physical arrangement of cranial bones. Here, we compare the changes in anatomical organization and modularity of the skull of extinct and extant archosaurs using an Anatomical Network Analysis approach. We show that the number of bones, their topological arrangement, and modular organization can discriminate birds from non-avian dinosaurs, and crurotarsans. We could also discriminate extant taxa from extinct species when adult birds were included. By comparing within the same framework, juveniles and adults for crown birds and alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), we find that adult and juvenile alligator skulls are topologically similar, whereas juvenile bird skulls have a morphological complexity and anisomerism more similar to those of non-avian dinosaurs and crurotarsans than of their own adult forms. Clade-specific ontogenetic differences in skull organization, such as extensive postnatal fusion of cranial bones in crown birds, can explain this pattern. The fact that juvenile and adult skulls in birds do share a similar anatomical integration suggests the presence of a specific constraint to their ontogenetic growth.Appropriate land configuration and assured nutrient supply are prerequisites for quality organic baby corn (Zea mays L.) production in high rainfall areas of the delicate Eastern Himalayan Region of India. A long term (5-year) study was conducted during 2012-2016 on a sandy loam soil in the mid attitude of Sikkim, Eastern Himalayan Region of India to evaluate the productivity, produce quality, the profitability of baby corn, and soil properties under different land configurations comprising flatbed, ridge and furrow, and broad bed and furrow, and organic nutrient management practices comprising un-amended control, farmyard manure 12 t ha-1, vermicompost 4 t ha-1 and farmyard manure 6 t ha-1 + vermicompost 2 t ha-1. The baby corn sown on broad bed and furrow had the tallest plant (149.25 cm), maximum dry matter (64.33 g plant-1), highest leaf area index (3.5), maximum cob length (8.10 cm), cob girth (6.13 cm) and cob weight (8.14 g) leading to significantly higher fresh baby corn yield (1.89 t ha-1), and net rtice for quality organic baby corn production and soil health improvement in the Eastern Himalaya and other similar eco-regions elsewhere.Ecological land is a type of land that has considerable ecological value. Understanding the evolution of urban ecological land in Zhuhai, China, holds great significance for revealing the evolution of ecological land in the Dawan District of southern China. We explored the temporal and spatial variation in urban ecological land in Zhuhai using the transformation matrix, equivalent ecological land, landscape index and ecological land center of gravity migration methods. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the mechanism of ecological land change, and a transition probability map of the ecological land in the study area was drawn. The results showed the following. (1) From 1991 to 2018, the area of ecological land in Zhuhai city continuously decreased, with a reduction in area of 274.8 km2, or 32.3%. Sharp changes mainly occurred from 1991 to 2000. (2) The ecological land in the study area has gradually become fragmented, and the degree of landscape heterogeneity has increased. Affected by the expansion of the outer edge of the city to the southwest and the construction of ecological land within the city, the center of gravity of the ecological land has shifted to the northeast by 1346 m. (3) The elevation, slope, distance from built-up land and growth rate of built-up land are important factors influencing the transformation of ecological land. In the future, rivers and shallow coastal waters, tidal flats, and grasslands in the study area have the highest probability of transformation. The Jinwan District and Xiangzhou District will face severe ecological land protection pressure. The method of spatial-temporal analysis of urban ecological land developed in this paper can be applied in similar studies on other cities, and the results obtained for Zhuhai, China, have reference value for future urban planning and ecological protection work.Meiosis produces four haploid cells after two successive divisions in sexually reproducing organisms. A critical event during meiosis is construction of the synaptonemal complex (SC), a large, protein-based bridge that physically links homologous chromosomes. The SC facilitates meiotic recombination, chromosome compaction, and the eventual separation of homologous chromosomes at metaphase I. We present experiments directly measuring physical properties of captured mammalian meiotic prophase I chromosomes. Mouse meiotic chromosomes are about ten-fold stiffer than somatic mitotic chromosomes, even for genetic mutants lacking SYCP1, the central element of the SC. Meiotic chromosomes dissolve when treated with nucleases, but only weaken when treated with proteases, suggesting that the SC is not rigidly connected, and that meiotic prophase I chromosomes are a gel meshwork of chromatin, similar to mitotic chromosomes. These results are consistent with a liquid- or liquid-crystal SC, but with SC-chromatin stiff enough to mechanically drive crossover interference. The study investigated whether the use of carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK screw material (CF-PEEK) can reduce magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) artifact formation. Two consecutive groups of patients were treated for degenerative spinal disorders of the lumbar spine with dorsal transpedicular spinal fusion. The first group (n = 27) received titanium pedicle screws. The second group (n = 20) received CF-PEEK screws. All patients underwent an MRI assessment within the first four postoperative weeks. For each operated segment, the surface of the artifact-free vertebral body area was calculated as percentage of the total vertebral body. For each implanted segment, the assessability of the spinal canal, the neuroforamina, and the pedicle screws, as well as the surrounding bony and soft-tissue structures was graded from 1 to 5. A mean artifact-free vertebral body area of 48.3 ± 5.0% was found in the in the titanium group and of 67.1 ± 5.6% in the CF-PEEK group (p ≤ 0.01). Assessability of the lumbar spine was significantly improved for CF-PEEK screws (p ≤ 0.01) for all measurements. CF-PEEK pedicle screws exhibit smaller artifact areas on vertebral body surfaces and their surrounding tissues, which improves the radiographic assessability. Hence, CF-PEEK may provide a diagnostic benefit. The study design is case-control. To evaluate the impact of preoperative coronal patterns based on the relationship between orientation of L4 coronal tilt and C7 plumb line on immediate postoperative coronal imbalance in degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) patients. Although lumbosacral fractional curve has been long stressed in correction surgery of DLS, there is paucity of literature focusing on preoperative coronal pattern based on the relationship between orientation of L4 coronal tilt and C7 plumb line and its impact on immediate postoperative coronal imbalance in DLS patients. A consecutive series of DLS patients who underwent deformity correction surgery via posterior-only approach were reviewed. According to the relationship between orientation of L4 coronal tilt and C7 plumb line preoperatively, a total of 77 DLS patients who underwent posterior spinal corrective surgery were classified into 1. Coronal consistency pattern, L4 coronally tilts toward C7 plumb line; 2. Coronal opposition pattern, L4 cor3.Use of organic manures to meet the nutrient requirement of crop would be an inevitable practice in the years to come for sustainable agriculture since organic manures generally improve the soil physical, chemical and biological properties. Hence, field experiments were carried out in 2017 and 2018 to compare the impact of different organic manures and NPK fertilizer on soil properties, growth, yield, proximate and mineral contents of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.). The treatments each year 2017 and 2018 consisted of rabbit manure, cow dung, poultry manure, green manure [Mexican sunflower (Tithonia diversifolia Asteraceae)], pig manure, NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer applied at 120 kg N ha-1 and a control (no manure/inorganic fertilizer). The seven treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replication. Organic manures and NPK fertilizer increased the soil organic matter (OM), N, P, K, Ca and Mg (NPK fertilizer did not increase OM, Ca and Mg significantly), growth, yield, minerals, prre its mucilage content planting during high rainfall is recommended. An amendment to this paper has been published and can be accessed via a link at the top of the paper. The aim of our study was to evaluate the influence of low-intensity pulsed US on the delivery of doxorubicin (DOX) into MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer and A549 non-small cell lung cancer cell 2D and 3D cultures. US with pulse repetition frequency of 10 Hz and 1 MHz center frequency was generated with peak negative pressure of 0.5 MPa and 50% duty cycle. SonoVue microbubbles were used. Spheroids were formed using 3D Bioprinting method. DOX delivery in 2D and 3D cultures was assessed using fluorescence microscopy. US without the addition of microbubbles did not enhance the penetration of DOX into monolayer-cultured cells and tumor spheroids. In the presence of microbubbles US improved the delivery of DOX into the edge end middle zones of A549 and MDA-MB-231 spheroids. Application of low-intensity pulsed US in combination with microbubbles may be a promising approach to enhance the delivery of DOX into tumor spheroids.
