Trypanosoma cruzi/HIV coinfection has been described as a relevant clinical event and an emerging public health problem. Here, we describe the epidemiological patterns of deaths related to Chagas disease and HIV/AIDS coinfection in Brazil from 2000 to 2019.

We performed a nationwide population-based study using mortality data obtained from the Brazilian Mortality Information System. We included all deaths recorded in Brazil from 2000 to 2019 in which Chagas disease and HIV/AIDS were mentioned on the same death certificate, either as underlying or as associated causes of death.

Chagas disease and HIV/AIDS were mentioned on 196/22 663 092 death certificates. HIV/AIDS was the underlying cause in 58.2% (114/196) of deaths and Chagas disease in 33.2% (65/196). The average annual mortality rate was 0.05 deaths/1 000 000 inhabitants (95% CI 0.03 to 0.09). The highest death rates were found among males, those aged 60-69 y, Afro-Brazilians, those with 1-3 y of schooling/study and residents in Chagas disease-endemic regions/states. Respiratory, infectious/parasitic and cardiovascular diseases/disorders were the associated causes of death most commonly mentioned.

Computational methods are regarded as an effective way to associate drugs with new indications. However, most of them complete their tasks by constructing a variety of heterogeneous networks without considering the biological knowledge of drugs and diseases, which are believed to be useful for improving the accuracy of drug repositioning. To this end, a novel heterogeneous information network (HIN) based model, namely HINGRL, is proposed to precisely identify new indications for drugs based on graph representation learning techniques. More specifically, HINGRL first constructs a HIN by integrating drug-disease, drug-protein and protein-disease biological networks with the biological knowledge of drugs and diseases. Then, different representation strategies are applied to learn the features of nodes in the HIN from the topological and biological perspectives. Finally, HINGRL adopts a Random Forest classifier to predict unknown drug-disease associations based on the integrated features of drugs and diseases obtained in the previous step. Experimental results demonstrate that HINGRL achieves the best performance on two real datasets when compared with state-of-the-art models. Besides, our case studies indicate that the simultaneous consideration of network topology and biological knowledge of drugs and diseases allows HINGRL to precisely predict drug-disease associations from a more comprehensive perspective. The promising performance of HINGRL also reveals that the utilization of rich heterogeneous information provides an alternative view for HINGRL to identify novel drug-disease associations especially for new diseases.Anhedonia, the reduced capacity to experience pleasure, has long been considered a prominent feature of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The current systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO CRD42020156169) aimed to quantify overall and domain-specific self-reported anhedonia in people with schizophrenia compared to nonpsychiatric controls. We performed a literature search of PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and Embase databases for dissertations and peer-reviewed articles published in English prior to June 2021. link2 Studies employing a psychometrically validated self-report measure of anhedonia, pleasure experience or affect in people with schizophrenia, schizoaffective, or schizophreniform disorders; studies utilizing at least one clearly defined healthy or community control group for comparison; and studies providing sufficient data to calculate effect sizes were included in this review. Random and mixed effects meta-analyses, meta-regressions, and subgroup comparisons were run across domains of anhedonia to explore weighted mean effect sizes and their associated moderators. In total, 146 studies met inclusion criteria, yielding 390 Hedges' g effect sizes from the included comparisons. People with schizophrenia reported moderate-to-large elevations in overall and domain-specific anhedonia. A sensitivity analysis accounting for high risk of bias studies did not significantly impact results. Lastly, patient sex, education, negative symptom severity, antipsychotic class, and trait negative affect differentially moderated effect sizes across domains of anhedonia. Previous studies reported that semantic consistency between objects and scenes facilitates object perception and that scene-object consistency is reflected in changes in the N300 and N400 components in EEG recordings. Here, we investigate whether these N300/400 differences are indicative of changes in the cortical representation of objects. In two experiments, we recorded EEG signals, while participants viewed semantically consistent or inconsistent objects within a scene; in Experiment 1, these objects were task-irrelevant, while in Experiment 2, they were directly relevant for behavior. In both experiments, we found reliable and comparable N300/400 differences between consistent and inconsistent scene-object combinations. link3 To probe the quality of object representations, we performed multivariate classification analyses, in which we decoded the category of the objects contained in the scene. In Experiment 1, in which the objects were not task-relevant, object category could be decoded from ~100 ms after the object presentation, but no difference in decoding performance was found between consistent and inconsistent objects. In contrast, when the objects were task-relevant in Experiment 2, we found enhanced decoding of semantically consistent, compared with semantically inconsistent, objects. These results show that differences in N300/400 components related to scene-object consistency do not index changes in cortical object representations but rather reflect a generic marker of semantic violations. Furthermore, our findings suggest that facilitatory effects between objects and scenes are task-dependent rather than automatic.
